Is it 2019 yet?

QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Mar 29, 2018 -> 02:17 PM) It’s obvious from the spring he’s not ready. Kopech is going to end up spending 1.5 seasons between AA and AAA and he’s shown much more. I’m not sure what you have seen from Hansen over the last month that would make you think he is going to be pushed faster than Kopech. They are two different players, and it isn't just the spring that I am looking at. Hansen has a spectacular season last year, having success at 3 levels, bring his walks way down, leading all of the minors in K's and having a good season's worth of IP under his belt. Kopech could well be in Chicago by June, definitely by September barring a meltdown. Though if you are going to throw Hansen under the bus for spring training, Kopech didn't exact set the world on fire this spring either. The biggest difference between the two is that Kopech didn't have any innings under him which probably slowed his leap last year. If he had been able to stay healthy in 15 or 16, he'd probably already be in Chicago with a nice innings base under him. Hansen hasn't had that problem.

White Sox Acquire Minor Leaguer for Intl Bonus Slot $

QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Mar 29, 2018 -> 02:00 PM) Interesting note, Hahn said they were going to try to have Pinto be a starter again. They're sending him down to WS so he can get stretched out again and then he will head to AAA. Also the Sox outrighed Jose Ruiz to Winston-Salem, so the 40 man currently is at 39. The best way to work on mechanics and slot is through starting and getting as many reps as possible. -
Should the Sox attempt to extend some of their talent?
southsider2k5 replied to wrathofhahn's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I know this came up on the temp board, but I will share my answer. There is zero doubt in my mind they have gone to these kids with proposals in the hope of getting things worked out. The Sox have always been in front of these kind of deals They just signed one last year with Tim Anderson. It does take two to tango though. I will also say that a guy has zero lack of confidence like a Yoan Moncada won't be the type of guy to sign a deal like this. Same with Kopech. -
For anything that doesn't warrant its own thread.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 29, 2018 -> 01:15 PM) https://amp.mlb.com/269743968-young-white-s...n-2018.amp.html Yes, it?€™s filler for the casual fanbase, but we?€™re at least one full season away and closer to a 70 win team and bottom 5 in the majors than one approaching .500. Everyone should understand patience by now, and that this year will be pretty hard to get enthused about watching the likes of Shields, Gonzalez, Santiago, Soria, etc., but there?€™s no point trying to spin someone just to sell a few more tickets. Actually, just watching Moncada, Delmonico, Engel, Giolito and Lopez was enough for most die hard fans...along with Avi, Abreu and Davidson/Yolmer/Leury. Clearly, we also had our ups and downs with Anderson/Rodon as well. Non-linear progression. If nothing else, Cleveland and the Twins are well set up to be better than us until 2020, barring some huge free agent signings this offseason or a huge jump up to a $100 million/year broadcasting rights deal. Sure, Kopech, Hansen, Cease and Dunning could all light the world on fire simultaneously to Jimenez’s arrival...but counting on that is as crazy as expecting Ohtani to win both a Cy Young and Silver Slugger in his first three seasons. What is the weird symbol you keep typing? -
QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 29, 2018 -> 11:21 AM) Oh proooospects. I'm gonna just go in for the following guys: Yurchak Luis Gonzalez and my 2016 intl Lenyn Sosa Anthony Coronado Kleydar Sanchez Luis Mieses Caraballo ^ all end up stateside if not already, Sosa still lacks power but keeps making good contact. Coronado doesn't make contact but hits bombs. I so badly am hoping this is the breakout year for Latin America. These guys are starting to populate the system pretty well at the lower levels, it would be nice to see some showing up on the lists.

QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Mar 28, 2018 -> 09:08 PM) Is ANYONE concerned about Kopech's command issues at this point? His stuff is terrifying, but if he can't command it at an elite status it will be tough to reach his lofty potential. Control is #1 on the list for biggest red flags for Kopech, followed by #2 which is health. He did a great job of staying healthy last year, so that is nice, as well as really improving his control as the season went on.

QUOTE (BamaDoc @ Mar 29, 2018 -> 09:34 AM) I saw someone mention that the cross town team, who was also in the international penalty, signed 36 or so international talents. Obviously, they are under 300k (if done legally cough cough Braves) and show some teams take a quantity approach. I don't know how many we signed beyond a kid from Aruba, but if we can't find at least a dozen then I question our scouting ability. I have long advocated setting up a couple of academies to get the kids in contact with us early, teach baseball, english, and some basics(nutrition) so if they do get over hear there is less culture shock. The Moncada twinkie story was cute but if it had continued could have prevented him from reaching his potential. If a kids potential is a 1-2 war player that matters. We have also used that money to bring in about half a dozen upper level minor league players, so you can't just look at the total number. -
QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Mar 29, 2018 -> 02:51 AM) Re: Hansen - With how slow they have brought along everyone else I highly doubt he sees the majors before 2019 season probably as a mid season call up. I’d like to see him duplicate his previous effort but this time in the high minors for this entire season he doesn’t look ready for the majors yet. I think we are looking at Kopech mid season ‘18, Cease and Hansen mid season ‘19. Dunning TBA could be mid season ‘19 or ‘20. Lopez probably goes to the bullpen in ‘20 if he can’t stick as a starter. I think Rodon gets traded once he puts together a healthy half season - maybe next offseason. If they think Hansen is ready going into the ‘19 season that will probably happen. Fulmer is a full time reliever by ‘19 if he can’t stick in this year’s rotation. Hansen has already hit AA. There are guys who go straight from AA to the majors, but even if he spends half a season at AA, two months at AAA, and September call up... that isn't crazy at all.

Have any bold predictions you want to get out there for the 2018 season? Let's here them. Who is breaking out? Who is busting? Who is popping up on the radar that is fairly unknown right now? Anything else?

QUOTE (South Sider @ Mar 29, 2018 -> 08:32 AM) Seriously. People will never shut up about him being a trailblazer or a genius if we built a serviceable or good bullpen using International Draft Money we weren't planning on using anyway. We have been getting some very interesting guys with this money. How dare Rick Hahn discover a new way to build a team! -

I am going to go with 69-93. I think there is going to be some serious roller coaster times this year as the team missing guys like Quintana will have some significant struggles at times as they grow into being at the major league level for the first time for a full season. Remember 40% of this roster (9 of 25) is on the opening day roster for the first time ever. That is a really big number, and it will have reverberations on the season. You will see guys have prolonged struggles as they fight the mental side of the game, as well as the physical side. -
It is pretty late this year, but here we go... Let's hear how many wins you are predicting for the White Sox in 2018.

Let's hear it... #WhiteSox HR props: Abreu 30.5 Davidson 24.5 Moncada 20.5 Garcia 17.5 Anderson 15.5 Castillo 15.5

QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 28, 2018 -> 03:26 PM) Hansen *did*, I doubt they'd push him that aggressively considering the forearm now. I was under the impression that wasn't a big deal. Has that changed?
-
QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Mar 28, 2018 -> 02:36 PM) Closer than I expected. He might be closer than Hansen or Dunning. Hansen has an outside chance of being in Chicago at some point this year. Neither Cease or Dunning really do.
