  1. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Apr 4, 2018 -> 09:23 PM) Hope the lack of a good looking line doesn't take away from how Carson actually looked out there tonight. His pitches seemingly had more movement on them than they've had for the past 2 years and that was awesome to see. Still has to harness his control as when he was getting hit around it's because he was falling behind hitters. Certainly not saying he's going to be part of the future rotation or anything but at least he's starting to show something out there. His defense also kicked him in the balls which doesn't show in that line either.
  2. QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Apr 4, 2018 -> 06:04 PM) Check Miller park vs the other upper midwest teams and you'll get your answer. Also check in seasons when the team is bad and when they're good. Nothing changes the fact that the Metrodome was a dump. Their attendance looks remarkably like any other team in the midwest. Low attendance before school gets out and higher after it. I see weekday games as low at 12 and 13 thousand during April at Miller park. https://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/MI...le-scores.shtml Looking at the Twins in their outdoor stadium, their attendance during the same time period of April games is remarkably the same. https://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/MI...le-scores.shtml If you have a study or actual proof of some sort, I would love to see it.,
  3. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 4, 2018 -> 04:58 PM) How is the teams payroll even that high? Shields obviously is a huge part of that. Abreu $13m Shields $10m Castillo $7m Avi $7m That is half of the payroll right there.
  4. QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Apr 4, 2018 -> 05:46 PM) When they see early season attendance go up significantly because fans are comfortable and the players aren't freezing and playing better, they would find it worth it. Teams could double their early season attendance at places like Cleveland Minnesota and the south side of Chicago. It could go from 8-10 k to 20-25k. I'd like to see proof that Dome vs not Dome makes a difference. The Twins had some of the worst attendance in baseball in their dome.
  5. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 4, 2018 -> 02:39 PM) I’m ok with blowing up Wrigley field for any reason to be honest, just don’t want Chicago to fund the bill As long as Ricketts and Rahm are in office, there will be nothing for the Cubs from the City of Chicago.
  6. QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Apr 4, 2018 -> 02:10 PM) How many times do I have to say it isn't just early spring weather that is annoying. I find midsummer equally annoying. If you have read the Filibuster and Slam you'd know that I am autistic, and am hypersensitive to heat. I can't touch a hot plate out of the microwave or drink hot coffee. I have to eat my food slightly above room temperature, otherwise I burn myself. I went to a game where at 10 PM it hadn't got below 90 degrees last year and it was absolutely miserable, despite having a good shady seat. I'd rather sit in the cold and bundle up than go on a 90+ degree day or evening. This would solve that problem too. I love baseball and go to 5-10 games a year, but most are in May, early June, late August and early September because that is most comfortable for me. Some people hate 85+ degree F weather and I am one of them. If I could afford to live in San Diego it would be the easiest no brainer ever. There has to be other people who hate hot weather too, right? Hey that's great. We all have things we like and don't like. But none of us are demanding a policy that would cost an addition billion dollars per ballpark to implement.
  7. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Apr 4, 2018 -> 01:48 PM) This for the most part. Did I like Hawk more ? Yep. If you listen to Jason you know he is highly intelligent based on his humor. He can be downright funny , dry or poke fun at Stone )often as he does to himself too. Sure some things aren't as funny but when you yakety yak that's going to happen. It's probably that he just isn't as big a homer as Hawk and I love baseball history /stories about which Hawk can do and Benetti can't having not played. Hawk played the game and it seemed to hurt him when the Sox sucked. That resonates with me . Benetti is a professional broadcaster and it's ok the Sox lost I'm off to my next gig. I care so I want the play by play guy to care. Hawk did, Jason doesn't and that may never change. This is totally me. I love the Hawk is pissed when the team sucks and elated when the team is soaring. I love that he gets excited for big plays. I love that the umps can piss him off. He is one of the few announcers left today who is a reflection of his fanbase, and not a drone. I am sad that Hawk has gotten old and lost some of his touch.
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 4, 2018 -> 12:42 PM) When Jason is not with Stone, usually on other sports, he doesn't try to be as cute, and he is really good. I think eventually they will cut it down a bit. I'm hoping sooner rather than later. The deadtime in the game of baseball creates a whole lot more space to fill. People complain about things like Hawks Catfish and Yaz stories, but there is always going to be something to fill that time. For Jason and Steve it seems to be strange conversations about whatever weird topic that comes up. To be honest give me another Catfish story over another joke about Stone being cheap and never paying for anything.
  9. QUOTE (3GamesToLove @ Apr 4, 2018 -> 12:09 PM) I don't get how someone could listen to the TV/radio broadcasts of the last decade+ and think the answer is to hire yet another former player who's not a trained broadcaster. I don't get how anyone could listen to what we have now and think this IS the answer.
  10. Mediocre is a good way to describe it. I just get no excitement or joy out of the game with him. Their banter between pitches is better than what Hawk and Stone had, but there is no level of excitement from the game itself. There are no highs. Honestly they sounds like every other cookie cutter broadcast around the nation. Personally, this is the job I think AJ was made for.
  11. The good news is that New Orleans has been sucking lately, so their pick is now sitting in the middle of the first round.
  12. QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Apr 4, 2018 -> 11:16 AM) No irony. I do think it is sad that the most powerful and well run unions are for millionaires though. From my point of view it is still an organized labor vs management argument, no matter how much money the labor is getting paid. Until I framed it in that way, I used to side with ownership in pro sports labor negotiations too. Full of irony. I am not interested in unfunded mandates in a situation that benefits a very few people with next to zero public good that would come from the silliness of requirement stadiums to have retractable domes. It is a giant waste of money for a situation that only comes up rarely, for the benefit of what, 40,000 people to be warm at a sporting event? Pass.
  13. QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Apr 4, 2018 -> 10:57 AM) Quit deflecting. You and I know that was a jab at labor unions. Those who have plenty and want more are greedy. Those who have less and want more are fighting for the right to be comfortable or exist in some cases. Read my addendum to the quoted post. It was a jab at defending millionaires at the expense of billionaires and not realizing the irony there.
  14. QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Apr 4, 2018 -> 10:47 AM) No it isn't absurd. Organized labor has been under attack since it formed, and collective bargaining is not done in good faith anymore. You are not your job. Your ability to provide for yourself and your family should not be compromised because your boss wants to put you in an unsafe work environment. Your job=/=your life and self worth. I know we have differences politically but geez man, quit defending people hoarding money. If you're not a multimillionaire your arguments are counterproductive to your own self interest. None of that is applicable here, but hey, rant on.
  15. If you didn't see Avi's homer last night, you should check it out. Chicago White Sox?Verified account @whitesox 14h14 hours ago 481 feet. 116.7 MPH. The longest home run by a #WhiteSox player since @statcast started charting in 2015. Not a bad 1st home run of 2018, Avi.
  16. QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Apr 4, 2018 -> 10:07 AM) MLBPA will never agree to that, as it puts too much pressure on pitchers. Oh millionaire athlete's can't handle working more, cry me a river greedy bastards... [see how absurd that sounds]
  17. QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Apr 4, 2018 -> 10:17 AM) The big 4 sports are so ridiculously profitable that there is zero reason for any stadium to be publicly funded anymore. Owners have the money they just don't want to spend it. Cry me a f***ing river you greedy bastards. It is really easy to sound tough spending other people's money.
  18. QUOTE (SoxFan2003 @ Apr 4, 2018 -> 09:57 AM) Disadvantage: 1) The billions in taxpayer money to retrofit stadiums with a retractable roof. You can't expect owners to pay for this themselves This. A lot of locations are already in tax revolts and the idea of tax funded stadiums are already in trouble. Add another billion to each stadium? Not good.
  19. QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 3, 2018 -> 05:02 PM) I’m not suggesting teams would have given up much for him. I’m suggesting I would have preferred NOT to have to package Kahnle to give the Yankees the privilege of getting a guy back that had high-leverage experience in New York. I would have much preferred to give them Swarzak, Robertson and Frazier for Tito Polo and Clarkin, for instance. I would absolutely include a middle reliever to get a top positional prospect. Even the best middle relievers are worth no where near what a starting CF is worth, let alone a potential star one. Swarzak brought back his own potential starting OF in Cordell, so that would under two trades there. When it comes to middle relief, the Sox can trade it away all day as far as I am concerned for those sorts of returns.
  20. QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 3, 2018 -> 04:54 PM) I’m not disputing whether Kahnle got Rutherford. I guess what I’m saying is I think Kahnle should have been worth more than a guy like Rutherford and this notion that Robertson was some schlep that we were lucky the Yankees took off our hands is overblown. Do you think if we had put Frazier and Robertson on waivers they would have been claimed? If we could still have Kahnle and give the Yankees back the three prospects, would you do it? I would... How much additional prospect stock do you think that teams were willing to pay for Robertson, and why didn't Hahn take it then?
  21. QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 3, 2018 -> 04:38 PM) Ahh, I don’t agree...we gave them a proven closer who had succeeded with them previously in New York. Yes, he was making a fair salary, but I hate that people look at Robertson to the Yankees as a “salary dump.” They got back some solid veteran talent and a young stud to make a playoff run, and basically only surrendered one overrated prospect. It was a great deal by Cashman, and probably not so great for the Sox. My guess is the end result of that trade will be us surrendering Kahnle in order to clear about $10 million off the books. Eh, we tried to send Robertson by himself to all of baseball, just like Hahn had done with all of his major trades before, and no one really had any interest in him alone. Kahnle was the reason we got Rutherford. Robertson alone wasn't getting anything of value. Even the interviews after the trade admitted as much.
  22. Chris Cotillo?Verified account @ChrisCotillo 19m19 minutes ago Chris Cotillo Retweeted Chris Cotillo Yankees announced they've claimed Trayce Thompson from the Dodgers.
  23. Jon Morosi?Verified account @jonmorosi 16m16 minutes ago Good news: Daryl Boston’s dugout whistle is legal by @MLB rules, and the league won’t ask him to change unless the whistle becomes a source of tension between clubs. Last night, it created a genuinely funny moment between competitors. And so it stays. @MLBNetwork
  24. QUOTE (Jake @ Apr 3, 2018 -> 03:42 PM) The most noteworthy thing for me is the White Sox were smart enough not to do a rebuild that was predicated on losing. The dumbest game you can play in MLB is jumping through hoops to get the highest draft pick possible. If you're trading your veteran assets for good young talent, you won't be picking late in the first round. But the marginal value of a few spots is rarely going to be worth jerking your players and fans around. I know your comment mentioned defense specifically, but I think we have a pretty deep system at catcher. On the MLB club you have Narvaez who is a solid MLB regular and under control for a long time. Then in the minors you have Smith, who is more of a backup MLB type who we may never use much because he's rather old at this point. Moving on through the minors you have Collins and Zavala, both promising bats but as you say there are questions about defense. Of course, you don't typically find too many catcher prospects who play good defense and hit. If Zavala and Collins can't stick behind the plate, they aren't catchers. That is the problem there.
  25. An interesting read on what would happen if a guy like Joey Gallo bunted into the shift. https://www.baseballprospectus.com/news/art...bunt-joey-bunt/
