QUOTE (steveno89 @ Mar 22, 2017 -> 04:22 PM) Wishful thinking No organization is going to send (5) top 15 organizational prospects in exchange for 1 player This has been talked about to death over the winter End of the day a potential deal will look like: 2 top 5 organizational prospects (that are top 50 overall talents) plus one or two more B level prospects to round out the deal Once you get past Martes and Tucker in the deal, the rest of the guys the Sox would be getting are probably B to C level prospects.

2016-2017 NBA Thread
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 22, 2017 -> 03:18 PM) They said adios to Michael not because he killed Kwami Brown. A lot of people apparently killed him. They got rid of him because they got him to play, make the team some money and didn't want to give him back his piece at the same price. Michael got played in DC. If McGrady could play, and he could, he would have been fine with Michael, although his first season he struggled a bit, and Michael would have been gone. But it retrospect, the Bulls got another title, and that would have been the max if the had made the trade, and if they made the trade, they might not have won #6. I saw McGrady on ESPN a few weeks ago and he was talking about that near trade. He said at the time potentially being traded for Scottie Pippen freaked him out. So it probably wouldn't have been MJ that killed him if he didn't become a player. The talent and potential was absolutely there. It would have been interesting to see if Jordan could have gotten him to buy in at both ends of the floor like he did with Pippen. Not everyone has that level of drive, and it is really too bad we will never know. A Jordan-drive Tmac could have kept the run going for another decade instead of the disaster it turned into until Rose came along.

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Mar 22, 2017 -> 03:38 PM) I still would say 90% chance that Quintana is on the White Sox roster by opening day Teams know the price, Sox have zero reason to budge I would have said 99% two days ago, but it is interesting that this is still coming up. Typically teams don't make major deals during the stretch from spring training until about the middle of June. But with the White Sox, they don't seem to care about those norms.

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Mar 22, 2017 -> 03:39 PM) I'd be underwhelmed. I'd want one more of their top hitters not named Bregman.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Mar 22, 2017 -> 02:36 PM) If those two pieces are in place, after all this time, it's close. Makes you wonder about Luhnow's latest comment in re "the ask..." Not necesarily. If Houston is saying Martes, Tucker, and C level prospects/nothing else while the White Sox are saying something like Tucker/Martes/Reed/Fisher, that is a pretty big gap.

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Mar 22, 2017 -> 02:08 PM) Why even tweet this? If nothing is close then how would a deal be centered around those two? You can have a couple of pieces in place, but not the rest. The possibility exists that much like the Red Sox deal, the top pieces fell into place, but it was the third player and beyond the teams had debate on. Remember the White Sox wanted Devers, but Boston wasn't willing. Moncada and Kopech were already in place.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Mar 22, 2017 -> 01:53 PM) With no Giolito/Moncada level headliner, I'd say we'd need to get Martes, Tucker, Fisher + Makes sense to me.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Mar 22, 2017 -> 01:23 PM) Tucker and Martes seems to be a good and fair start for both teams. Who knows if anything comes of it. They have a lot of positional talent beyond the top guys too. Fisher, Reed, Davis, and Sierra are guys that stand out to me as well.

Lopez/Giolito/Kopech/Moncada/Fulmer sent down
QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Mar 22, 2017 -> 12:45 PM) I wonder if they are still evaluating him as a SP option down the road? They talked about his ability to start after drafting him, then put him on a fast track to the majors via the bullpen to try and help the team last season. But now with the organization taking a step back and having the ability to extend his development, I wonder if they are thinking about trying him in the rotation somewhere this year and evaluating whether or not he has a shot and what he needs to work on to be able to start. I wish they would, but they sound like they are using him as reliever.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 22, 2017 -> 12:18 PM) Yes, but Covey is lost to Rule 5 rules (potentially) if he doesn't make it. Both are at risk of being taken away. This is where your scouting and development people come into play. The Sox got to see some extended time with Ynoa at the end of last season. With Covey they have this spring. I wonder what the team thinks of him so far. I mean obviously the results haven't been ideal, but that doesn't mean they couldn't see something in him.

QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 22, 2017 -> 11:53 AM) The 37 left include Tilson and Minaya, so there are ten cuts left barring something happening. Burdi Covey Purke Swarzak Smith, K Cabrera, E Delmonico Hayes Liriano May Davidson is going to make it. Hope something clicks with limited play. I find it very interesting that Burdi still hasn't been sent out, and that he wasn't sent out the day that the rest of the top group was sent out, including someone like Fulmer. I wonder if he has a shot?

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 22, 2017 -> 08:19 AM) Plus there's always the chance that 1 doesn't pitch in the same series as the other 2. Not to mention that just because we start the season this way, doesn't mean that doesn't quickly get shuffled as someone gets skipped, moved, etc.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Mar 22, 2017 -> 08:06 AM) That would make 3 lefties in a row. It would be a big deal, but all three of them are very different pitchers.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Mar 22, 2017 -> 12:11 AM) Shields also was facing all the regulars of the Rangers lineup. In the 4th he K'd Choo, Beltre and Odor . 3 hits, 1 BB, 6 K This was really nice to see. Typically in spring training the hitters are ahead of pitchers. I would be really curious if anyone got velocity readings from Shields.

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 05:16 PM) According to beat writers, he showed a commitment to a routine and approach despite the bad start. That's a very encouraging sign, usually when players struggle they start to tinker and end up making things worse. The fact he did that bodes well for his development going forward I really like the fact he didn't start out hot, he ended hot. He got better as camp went on, and there were less and less stiffs he was playing against.

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 03:52 PM) Doubt it. They'll want the extra year with a full rotation already. He has more service time than Giolito, so he may actually spend a little more time in Charlotte. Giolitto hasn't forced the issue though. Lopez has looked major league ready.

Automobile Thread
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 02:36 PM) Car shopping for the first time in about 6 years. Amazing how far the safety stuff has gotten in that time. Looking at a pair of plug-in hybrids. My wife has a round-trip commute of around 30 miles, which makes these cars with roughly 30-mile electric-only ranges basically perfect for us. And they still get 40+ mpg after that as hybrids. Current tax credits are about $4900 on each, but the difference in price of plug-in versus not is only about $3000-$4000, which further makes it a no-brainer. Not sure why anyone would get the straight hybrid in that case, if the plug-in is actually cheaper and gets better efficiency overall (a lot better for us). Narrowed to the Hyundai Sonata and Kia Optima plug-in hybrids. Anyone have experience with either of those brands? I'm new to both. Reading mostly very good things, but always up for deeper info. Just as a FWIW, I just signed on a 2015 Jetta SE that I got for $11,500. Highway I am averaging about 40 mpg, and about 25 in town. I know that isn't quite hybrid type mileage, but for the price difference, it might be worth considering. The diesel scandal just punished the prices of even their gasoline line, even though they weren't part of the problem.
