3/13 vs Indians
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Mar 13, 2017 -> 03:53 PM) Glad the 2B spot is now open for him. He deserves a shot at being regular IMO. I think he would have won the job anyway. The team seemed to have soured on Lawrie.

White Sox Scout Yankees for Potential Q Trade
QUOTE (raBBit @ Mar 13, 2017 -> 03:51 PM) I agree with the Yankees having an overrated system as often as they have a highly touted system but I think that's less true this time around. The guys they got back from Cleveland and the Cubs were highly touted before the Yankees got them. On top of that, the Yanks have objectively hit home runs with their last two first rounders in Rutherford and Kaprelian. Mateo definitely seems overrated though. I am not as big on Frazier as the consensus either but that's splitting hairs. Not to mention the White Sox also had interest in the bolded even before they were Yankees.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Mar 13, 2017 -> 03:49 PM) Melky is a below average LF, Tilson should be average at best in CF, & Avi is pretty horrendous in RF other than his arm. Now the overall OF defense could change depending where Bourjous (or even Liriano) fits in, but I'm not seeing a plus OF at all. I think we'll pretty strong at SS & 2B and solid at 3B, but overall I think we'll be a below average defensive team. This is a flat out garbage team in the field. The OF is going to be one of the worst in baseball. The IF has a chance to be OK to good. The Catching situation is awful. The starting rotation is awful unless a lot of prayers are answered. The end of the bullpen will be solid, but the middle relief and back? Awful.

White Sox Scout Yankees for Potential Q Trade
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Mar 13, 2017 -> 02:35 PM) http://www.minorleagueball.com/2016/12/6/1...spects-for-2017 I'm going to disagree with you on that point. The Yankees have one of the deepest farms in the mlb. They are one of the few with Depth AND Quality.

Spring Training notes thread
QUOTE (Knuckles @ Mar 13, 2017 -> 01:49 PM) Anyone worried the Sox are going better than we need them to be this season? All the info about Rick Rentaria, energy he brings and how the clubhouse is meshing together. I think Sox will overachieve in 2017. Just a random thought. If that is really the case, it means at least some of the guys who had bottomed out, will see their trade values rebound, and the Sox will benefit greatly from being able to deal them again.

Moncada will not be rushed
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Mar 13, 2017 -> 12:03 PM) Not really fair to compare Moncada to those three. Those players had the benefit of playing for three years in college before being drafted into a teams' minor league system. Three years of college baseball experience goes a long way in terms of development. Moncada's youth, raw untapped talent and high ceiling is what makes Moncada a potential monster. If Moncada takes another year or two to develop, look at the bright side. It means Moncada would be leading the next wave of hitters for callups. A wave of Moncada, Collins, Basabe, Fisher, Call etc would be pretty bad ass. And not even high school development for Moncada, but Cuba.

Moncada will not be rushed
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 13, 2017 -> 11:49 AM) My fear is that the Sox will call him up too early. He's super young like others have said and should improve his K rate over time, but I'm worried that they'll throw him to the wolves too quickly and it would be harder for him to improve at the MLB level than at AA or AAA. At this point, I hope he stays down in the minors until September at the earliest. The funny part is that it was the Red Sox who rushed him to this point.

Moncada will not be rushed
QUOTE (Soha @ Mar 13, 2017 -> 11:35 AM) I'm not going to lie, I thought we'd see a little more from Moncada than we've seen thus far this spring. He is young, but being the #2 ranked prospect and the headliner for Chris Sale - I was hoping to get wowed a bit this spring. Part of it for me was wanting to see what made him such a huge prospect. His numbers don't really stand out in the minors like some of the other blue chip type prospects' numbers do. He didn't tear up any leagues like Kris Bryant, Austin Meadows or Benintendi have. So what exactly made him this monster prospect and when will it start to show it's face? Again, I know he's 21 and we need to be patient. Just saying I have a tinge of concern, that's all. That's just it. He has had his wow moments. If you follow the right writers on twitter, he has blown people away at moments showing off why he is rated where he is. He just isn't ready today.

Moncada will not be rushed
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Mar 13, 2017 -> 11:42 AM) Great point and totally agree. I think another thing that goes unnoticed is his maturity as a man. To sign a huge money contract at such a young age with so much raw untapped talent and no professional experience has got to be an incredible amount of pressure to which he has handled amazingly well. Dude is mature beyond his years. To me, his demeanor is more along the lines of Jose Abreu and that's a very good thing. Well except for the 200 twinkees.

Moncada will not be rushed
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Mar 13, 2017 -> 11:25 AM) Yep. I think some fans got caught up in the hype and forgot just how young and raw Moncada still is. Even if Moncada took two more years to fully develop in the minors before he became MLB ready, he would still be a mere 23 years old. A rebuilding team like the Sox have time on their side. On top of that, he is a young 21 baseball wise. We all have seen how poor the coaching and instruction is going on in Cuba, so he also has a curve to make up for coming out of an environment where he wasn't getting optimal growth.

Moncada will not be rushed
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Mar 13, 2017 -> 10:22 AM) He needs reps A full season in AAA will go a long way towards helping him improve. We have to remember that Moncada is a prospect at this point, not a finished player This. It wasn't even planned for him to be on the opening day roster, so this isn't exactly a surprise.

"White Sox fire sale isn’t over — it just got paused"
QUOTE (iamshack @ Mar 13, 2017 -> 10:03 AM) I agree with you; but interestingly, a Vegas has been suggested as a landing spot for the White Sox more than once now. One point about the Nationals, A's, etc, it is one thing to fight over a major metropolitan market like Baltimore/DC or San Fran/Oakland, it's quite another for teams hundreds of miles away to make a claim for a market. I suspect sorting out a Vegas TV market would be much more clear than some of the other examples offered. If I were an owner, I'd be looking at a more stable and established market. Take a place like San Antonio with twice the population. We know they support the Spurs very well. At the very least, I would be waiting to see what the hockey franchise looks like after say 5 or 10 years.

"White Sox fire sale isn’t over — it just got paused"
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 13, 2017 -> 09:44 AM) Washington didn't have a team. I think they are still battling it out with the Orioles. Teams don't give up their territories very easily. Oakland basically gave up moving to San Jose over the territorial rights to it belonging to San Francisco.

QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Mar 12, 2017 -> 11:36 AM) Oh please, you're worse than caufield. Stevens knew he had bigger dreams than going to a bigger college. Shaka went to Texas, which looks like a mistake now.I'm still not sure what your problem is. Illinois fans are the worst. I say this as one. I am anything but an Illinois fan. It is hard to find stuff from five years ago, but this is something. We are now up to six coaches with no interest from the same coaching search. And retrospect isn't valid here. It is how coaches view the Illinois job in the moment, not if Smart made the right choice. http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2012/03/21/hog...is-turn-to-now/ Hamilton, no interest. Collins wanted NW, would have interest in IL if nothing else came up. Grant, no interest

NCAA basketball thread 2016-17
QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Mar 12, 2017 -> 10:52 AM) Two. Two candidates turned down Illinois. One is coach of the 2 seed in the Eastern conference of the NBA. The other is struggling terribly at Texas. It's certainly a top 25 job. Coaches wouldn't leave Butler and VCU for Illinois, that is pretty much my point, though I am pretty sure there were more than that who weren't even interested publicly. EDIT: Pretty sure Martin was connected at one point and flat out said no.

NCAA basketball thread 2016-17
QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Mar 12, 2017 -> 10:41 AM) Yeah, when you shoot for an NBA guy, that's what happens. You get turned down. If you don't get turned down, you're not aiming high enough. Get over this Illinois "woe is me" narrative. It's nauseating. Aiming high? lol. Yeah, his program ended up with Groce because how many candidates didn't even want to talk to them last time around? They can aim as high as they want, it won't make this a super-attractive job.

White Sox Scout Yankees for Potential Q Trade
QUOTE (hi8is @ Mar 11, 2017 -> 11:32 AM) To summarize: "Who the Yankees should trade for Q: No one good. Who the Yankees should trade for Q: Some who are OK." I closed the article when they compared Gary Sanchez to Johnny Bench.

New Beer at The Rate
The one thing I wonder here is with the bigger price tags on the micros and crafts, is there a bigger margin to be had for the White Sox to make up for some of that missing Miller money?

"White Sox fire sale isn’t over — it just got paused"
QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Mar 10, 2017 -> 05:17 PM) Right, which is probably why they don't move. The only way it would make sense for them to make a move is if they are going to make a significant jump in TV revenue. I don't see that happening given the current environment of cord cutters and the large financial commitments already made by many of the regional sports networks. Yeah, I see no way that they move.
