  3. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 22, 2017 -> 01:05 PM) Sounds like the following is a very real possibility: Indy gets: Okafor/Jaylen brown/ BKN 17/Zeller Philly gets: Avery Bradley Boston gets: PG13/seraphin Indy would meltdown if they got back one of the Zeller brothers.
  4. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 22, 2017 -> 12:18 PM) It has nothing to do with having Devers on the team in 2017 and much more that there are better ways of capitalizing on his value. If you have $20 and can only spend it on one thing, are you going to buy something that's worth $10, essentially costing yourself $10? I want someone who is worthwhile. There are more 3B in the world than Devers and Frazier that the Red Sox can use. I could also put it this way. If Devers were really available, I would bet money that another team out there would be willing to offer a better 3B than Frazier to get Devers.
  5. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Feb 22, 2017 -> 11:54 AM) I agree, sure once every 1,000 intentional walks something interesting happens, but otherwise it's just boring. I'm willing to bet a year from now most people will wonder why this change wasn't made sooner. I get the idea that something could happen, but when we are talking about two examples in 45 years, that is pretty damning to be honest.
  6. The topic of Obama's war on the whistleblower came up the other day, and I just happened to run across this today. https://www.longislandpress.com/2017/01/14/...whistleblowers/
  7. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Feb 22, 2017 -> 11:16 AM) Depends on who you talk to. I don't have a problem with it at all and yet again ask the question why is this a "problem" for baseball but no one, NO ONE complains when an NFL game (which has just as little action between plays) often runs 3:15 to 3:30...and in the post season it runs longer. And if baseball has an issue with fan support (including kids) why do they keep setting attendance records every year? Mark I hate watching NFL football.
  8. QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Feb 22, 2017 -> 11:34 AM) I disagree. I'd be significantly disappointed in that return. Teams fall all over themselves to make silly trades for relievers in season. Missing out on a back up catcher is a risk I'm willing to take. The relievers that teams go silly over are on another level than Robertson, even if he hadn't had last year happen.
  9. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 22, 2017 -> 11:27 AM) I'm completely OK with this. Like I said earlier, people wanted Robertson cut/salary dumped. To get a young, defensive catcher to add to Narvaez (who could have a solid backup career) and Collins would be great for Robertson. Plus it gets Jones in the closer role from the get-go, setting him up to bring in a deadline haul. And not only a good defensive catcher, but a good framer and a guy who supposedly pitchers like throwing to. That could be big for a really young pitching staff.
  10. QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Feb 22, 2017 -> 11:13 AM) Robertson +$5 mil for Norris, Soto and Kieboom Not sure if the Nats would do it (probably not, considering their aversion to trading prospects now), but worth asking. They get Norris' salary entirely off the books, and get a discount on Robertson. In return, they have to give up two significant prospects. That seems WAY high for a return.
  11. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Feb 21, 2017 -> 11:28 PM) Toews was possessed. 20 points over his last 12 games. Dude is back on track.
  12. QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Feb 21, 2017 -> 09:15 PM) Nick Schmaltz looks insanely good tonight. Toews line built out of thin air. This top line is building some great chemistry. Having those guys to roll over with the 2nd line? Oh my. This group might be able to do it again.
  13. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Feb 22, 2017 -> 09:05 AM) Doesn't mean you trade him for 40 cents on the dollar though Bingo. I get the guy is toxic, and he appears to be one of those guys who isn't as good as his numbers because of all of the extra BS that he comes with, but that deal was terrible.
  14. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 21, 2017 -> 10:43 PM) Steve...if this euro guys you referenced in the prior post are legitimate players, I'd be more open to a deal involving Jaylen Brown, the right to swap with the Nets pick, and both of those euro players plus another future 1st. That said, If I ran the Bulls, the only way I'd make the deal is if we got Jaylen Brown, the right to swap with the Nets, and the Nets future pick. To be honest, I'd probably also want one of the euro guys. I think that is a legitimately fair price for Butler. Everything else I've seen, if I were Ainge, I'd have made those deals in a heart beat. Here is the problem. Do you trust the group that bombed on Niko to develop these guys? I know I don't.
  15. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 22, 2017 -> 06:06 AM) Limit the amount of times a catcher and manager can go out to mound. That would cut out a lot of time. Those are the changes that make a difference. Add this to making a pitcher stay on the mound, and a batter stay in the box, and we are in business.
  16. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Feb 22, 2017 -> 08:02 AM) Why do you keep calling him a one dimensional power hitter? He can play a solid 3B, which automatically separates him from all the 1B/DH types you are comparing him to. Second, there is a big difference between a player having no market and teams not wanting to part with a premium prospect for said player on top of assuming the contract. I find it far more likely teams simply didn't want to meet the Sox's high asking price for a player coming off a dissapointing season rather than not a single team valuing Frazier as a $12M player. Finally, to assume the 3B market next year will be the same as this year is ridiculous. Hell, the 3B market could be radically different by June or July as there are several contenders with sketchy 3B situations. His value may be suppressed for now, but it won't be for a long with any semblance of a bounce-back. ZIPS has him as a 3.4 WAR player next year and I think that's very realistic. If so, he'll be worth a lot more than $12M. Why do you not? He had a horrible year at 3B and at the plate. The Sox spent all winter trying to trade at 2/3 the price, and literally no one wanted him. Unless both his bat and glove take a large step forward this year, he really isn't worth much. The predictors really don't mean anything here.
  17. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 21, 2017 -> 05:44 PM) For the 2018 White Sox? Absolutely. If you figure he's a 2.5 WAR player, which he was last year, and even $7 mill per WAR (where it's actually closer to $8-8.5 on the free agent market, if not more), then you are talking about a guy who is worth $17.5 mill right there. Jose Bautista got a qualifying offer based on his past, because he only put up a 1.4 WAR season last year, which was also hurt by an injury. He just signed a deal for $18.5 million. I don't see why it would be far fetched for a 32 year old Todd Frazier to receive a qualifying offer if a 36 year old Jose Bautista gets one too. The WAR scale isn't working anymore for one dimensional power hitters. Frazier had zero market at $12 million. On the open market he is worth a fraction of that.

  19. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 21, 2017 -> 03:26 PM) whitesoxdave saying the Bulls are trying to add Niko to the deal in order to get the Nets pick back. Weird source, i know, and he is throwing a "TIFWIW" in front of it whitesoxdave ‏@barstoolWSD 2h2 hours ago whitesoxdave Retweeted Patrick Hughes I'm not making s*** up, I was indeed told this, but this is obviously the end game here

  21. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 21, 2017 -> 04:22 PM) His trade value should be equal to that of a late 2nd round pick, aka a qualifying offer. Assuming Frazier has a similar year to the one he had last year, there is no legitimate reason why the White Sox, assuming they don't trade him, shouldn't tag him with a qualifying offer. They have virtually no commitments financially in the coming years and still have to field a team regardless. If he accepts, which is a possibility, then you have your 3B for 2018 and then his value decreases. If he declines, you recoup some value via draft pick. Would you put up an offer in the $17.5 to 18 million dollar range to Todd Frazier?

  24. QUOTE (Reddy @ Feb 21, 2017 -> 03:57 PM) On the flip side, I actually welcome the astroturf talk. Dems made the same mistake in '09/10 and look how that worked out. Encouraging their base to think we're paid protesters leads to complacency. I'm all for Republican complacency. So far I feel like it is doing the opposite. The anger directed at not only the Trump Presidency, but more so at his supporters, is really hardening a lot of people's positions into flat out paranoia. These are the people that fully believe there is a plot to steal the Presidency from Trump. While the anger has fired up the left, it has fired up the right too.
  25. QUOTE (Soha @ Feb 21, 2017 -> 02:26 PM) KW mentioned a specific pitcher had "the thing" (trouble throwing to bases) from a game he pulled up on July 23rd. I just checked, and sure enough Tyler Glasnow started for the Pirates that day and lasted 3 innings. Not sure he was serious about the date, he could well have been just talking in general and put a date in there to make the story work.
