  2. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 11, 2017 -> 03:04 PM) Isn't that what you've been telling us since the Winter Meetings? That we needed to get some position players for Quintana or we'd be screwed? Absolutely, though you just seemingly confirmed it by accident.
  3. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Jan 11, 2017 -> 02:54 PM) What's fun is when you start going to kids birthday parties, and you start talking to parents. It inevitably comes down to just b****ing about how much day care costs. I've had the same conversation probably 15 times over the last year. I know two dads that have 4 kids under the age of 7-8, each have 3 kids in day care at the moment. That's 55-60k/year. Just to take your kids somewhere to be watched for 8-9 hrs a day. This is exactly why we quit after two. We wanted to still be able to do stuff with our kids, not just to be able to afford our kids.
  4. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 11, 2017 -> 02:49 PM) When do you realistically expect him to be a productive member of our team? How many years of control will we have left with the rest of our core by that point? With a rebuild you want a core of players all hitting the majors in a short period of time. That's how you optimize your window of contention. If that is really the case, they have already dug themselves a huge hole by not getting much in the way of position players at all.
  5. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 11, 2017 -> 02:45 PM) Watch Seattle jump into the Q sweepstakes with an offer of Smith/Vogelbach/O'Neill/Lewis. Would be nice if Houston had a division rival involved in the negotiations. The top three in that group would have my attention for sure. Lewis/O'Neill/Vogelbach all three look like professional hitters, each with plus power.
  6. Cool gif of Collins working behind the plate. Maybe a framing exercise? https://twitter.com/whitesox/status/819267851043438592
  7. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 11, 2017 -> 02:22 PM) Maitan is a good 4+ years away. What good does that do for our rebuild? Our headliners should be guys that will be in the majors by 2019 at the latest. Some of you guys are so obsessed with getting bats that you're not thinking straight right now. Maitan is one of the highest ceiling guys in all of baseball. If your goal is to really open a long window of contention, this is exactly the type of guy who you target. He has future superstar written all over him.
  8. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 11, 2017 -> 02:10 PM) I don't see Atlanta being a great fit for Quintana Albies is a very good prospect, but outside of that their system is pretty thin on "available" position player prospects. Maitan is 16 years old and very far away from the majors Acuna just turned 19 and is year away The system really drops off after that Alex Jackson and Austin Riley are also worth some attention as position players. Travis Demeritte has also put up some big time power numbers at low levels.
  9. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 11, 2017 -> 01:10 PM) I hate armchair sports psychology but that sounds a lot like depression. That would make absolute sense to me.
  10. QUOTE (PolishPrince34 @ Jan 11, 2017 -> 12:28 PM) http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/top-21-pros...sburgh-pirates/ Pittsburgh Pirates TOP 21 prospects on Fangraphs Looking at Newman, Fangraphs gives him a greater than 50% chance of putting up 4 WAR or less total in the first six years of his career. Again, that is not the guy who you want to get as the top position player in a deal.
  11. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jan 11, 2017 -> 12:54 PM) If we are talking about Brave packages I need Albies and Maitan to be the headliners in any deal. Maitin, even though extremely young may be the position player I want the most if we can't get a Meadows, Bell, Tucker, etc. That is exactly what I feel too.
  12. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 11, 2017 -> 12:10 PM) Deadspin just tweeted that Rose thought about walking away from basketball. I swear this dude is a mental midget. Amazing that his ACL injury completely ruined his career. It is amazing that he went from such a determined bad ass to a complete pile of jello.
  13. QUOTE (striker @ Jan 11, 2017 -> 11:08 AM) Their off limits by the fans. I haven't heard anyone in the know say that is actually the case. If Meadows was on the table, I think a deal would have been done a long time ago.
  14. QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Jan 11, 2017 -> 10:07 AM) Braves have interesting stuff. Albies is closer to Meadows and Torres than you'd think but they really wouldn't need to include him. There are 9, maybe 10, top 100 prospects in their system and the players they have past that are not slouches. They probably wont provide the instant gratification that New York, Pittsburgh or Houston will (though make no mistake, Atlanta can), but if a quantity of explosive talent is what you're after that's the system to pillage. If Meadows and Bell are really off of the table, I'd much rather try to get a deal done with ATL.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 11, 2017 -> 08:51 AM) Look at this from the opposite perspective (and ignore the fact that what I'm going to say also is stateable about the presidential election, that's unavoidable because of what the FBI did). Hypothetically say that this material is fabricated, or at least the Buzzfeed content. Hypothetically say that even some of the material that CNN reported on, the 2 page summary given to the President Elect, is incorrect and false. That material was leaked to CNN within a week and they were able to basically confirm it is the material given to the President Elect. In that case, do you not have an intelligence organization that is intervening in politics to discredit the President Elect for reasons unknown and using material that the general public can't verify or see in order to do so (yeah, that part)? Yes it makes sense given that the only thing in the universe he hasn't insulted is anything Russian, but do you put it past America's intelligence agencies to smear a politician for their own reasons (quite obviously no)? It is worth mentioning that these are the same intelligence agencies that gave us WMD's in Iraq.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 11, 2017 -> 08:55 AM) If taking Bastardo back was key to getting the Pirates to open up Meadows I have no idea why we wouldn't do it. Meadows, Keller, Newman, Diaz (3 position players and a young pitcher that seems like a future top 5 prospect) + Bastardo for Quintana and Petricka (so that they get a cheap RH arm back for their bullpen). Taking Bastardo back balances Quintana's salary for them. I make sure pieces 3-4 are pieces I like - I would take Hayes or Tucker instead of Newman/Diaz if my scouts like them, basically those guys can't be throw-ins - and that's a deal I do right now. We should be getting that deal without Petricka or Bastardo being in the deal. That lacks their best pitcher, and their second best position player prospects. If we are taking salary AND kicking in another guy? Meadows, Glasnow, Newman, Bell, and Keller, plus a lottery ticket or two.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 09:24 PM) Bastardo for $6.5 million isn't a terribly big deal to the White Sox but it could be a terribly big deal to the Pirates. Hell, he gets off to a good start and he could be movable at the deadline. For what? The Sox are already asking for Meadows, and should get him as the headliner to any deal with Pittsburgh.
  18. QUOTE (ChiSox1917 @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 09:15 PM) I don't think there's any risk but maybe some opportunity risk. Trading Robertson now allows the Sox to put Jones in the closer role for half a year to increase his value to swap at the deadline. I am really surprised that we haven't heard more about Jones being in demand.
  19. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 06:58 PM) They shouldn't, but if money is the only thing keeping the Sox from getting a guy like Meadows or Bell, I absolutely do it. Yeah, unless they are clearing out the Pirates system, they shouldn't have to take on a bad contract.
  20. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 04:52 PM) The Sox have leverage. Keep calm. The Sale deal took a YEAR of trade talks to finally happen...and the Sox got what they wanted for the most part. If Moncada had crushed the ball during his brief callup he would not be in our farm system right now. If the Sox are going to burn their last blue chip trade piece, it had better be for premium, very high upside prospects. Not to mention there is an element of backbone to these type of deals. If other GMs know they can just wait you out, they won't ever give you their best deal because they know you will knuckle under. Sometimes you have to walk away to show that you will wait out the best offer.
  21. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 04:16 PM) Trade them $10k, a bucket of balls and log of chew. That should do it. Honestly though, see no reason to not give Micah back in the fold. Seeing some of the other hot garbage we have for middle infield options, I would be OK with claiming him.
  22. Chris Emma ‏@CEmma670 39m39 minutes ago The Bears have signed veteran WR Rueben Randle to a reserve/futures contract. He has 20 TDs in four NFL seasons, including eight in 2015.
  23. Al Iannazzone ‏@Al_Iannazzone 3h3 hours ago Rose said he didn't want to pick up the phone when Knicks called. He needed his "space."
