  1. QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Jan 8, 2017 -> 09:36 AM) The Cubs have nothing (including Baez) that matches Torres, Bregman or Meadows. They only way they match that kind of headliner is with Schwarber and that is flat out not hapening. If talks reach a point where one of those headliners won't be available then fine, let them join the bidding. The Cubs could have a deal done today without dealing a single major leaguer. A deal of something like Jimenez, Happ, Candelario, and Eddy Martinez? That is pretty much as good as any other team could offer, and it would explode our system with legitimate superstar position prospects.
  2. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 7, 2017 -> 12:12 PM) Read the first sentence of my post again; and no, my point was that you don't give up on a player after 58 plate appearances. Yes, but when you drug Mike Trout into it, it lost all meaning. People aren't giving up on Coats based on 58 PA's. They are giving up on him because he really isn't that good.
  3. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 7, 2017 -> 11:24 AM) I don't expect Coats to be anything special. That said, I do find it annoying that his "shot" in the Majors was 58 plate appearances, and many on this board think that's enough to make a decision on him. Didn't Bregman begin his MLB career 0-34? And, my favorite example: Mike Trout's first 60 career PAs: .185/.250/.352 Jason Coats' first 58 career PAs: .200/.298/.340 Ok, just stop there. Do not put Coats and Trout in the same comparison. I mean the only reason they should be in the same sentence is if Coats is bringing Trout his bat or somethin.
  4. QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Jan 6, 2017 -> 04:12 PM) If he makes the team. Exactly. If he really had a demand, he wouldn't need to make the team, his money would be guaranteed.

  6. QUOTE (Sockin @ Jan 6, 2017 -> 03:37 PM) Dan Hayes ‏@CSNHayes Heard one reason #WhiteSox didn't yet add Geovany Soto to 40-man was to leave space for a possible trade. Makes sense w/ Quintana rumor. Here we go?! Or Soto isn't that great anyway, and wasn't going to get a major league deal, so the White Sox didn't give him one either.
  7. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 6, 2017 -> 03:41 PM) I think the argument around Tilson right now is that as the projected starting CF, he really isn't a low-key prospect. As for mine, all of the FutureSox guys should be familiar with my choices: Eddy Alvarez, Blake Hickman (finally able to pitch with the team) and Taylore Cherry. Blake Hickman is another great name. It was thought that early on he could go as a first round pick, or a pick in the first few rounds. If he can get through the TJ stuff OK, and get back on track, he could be another name that pushes himself into the top 10.
  8. The guys I am most excited to see make progress are the kids coming out of Latin America. I am really curious to start seeing if these signings can start to pay some dividends at the major league level.
  9. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 6, 2017 -> 03:10 PM) Okay lets create a phone tree to map out who we need to wake up. Someone start a google doc? Tweet-> Soxtalk post-> profit.
  10. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Jan 6, 2017 -> 02:34 PM) Isn't there a certain date where we can still cut Lawrie (and Avi) without paying them? With Anderson, Frazier, Sally, Sanchez, and Davidson likely to have 25 man roster spots already I wonder if they view Asche as added IF/LF depth at a fraction of the price to Lawrie? I can't see any team trading for Lawrie, and giving him AB's at this point is pretty useless. Unless it changed in the last CBA, and no one has talked about it, they can still be cut for a settlement of something like 15 to 20% of the salary they agreed to.
  11. MLB Pipeline @MLBPipeline #WhiteSox claim OF Willy Garcia off waivers from #Pirates. Garcia No. 15 on Pittsburgh's Top 30 Prospects list: http://atmlb.com/1Tad5Vl
  12. Ryan Sheets @RyanSheets_ Willy Garcia led the International League with 17 OF assists in 2016, giving him 53 since the start of 2014. Most in @MiLB in that span. 0 replies 0 retweets 0 likes
  13. Eric Longenhagen ‏@longenhagen 17m17 minutes ago Eric Longenhagen Retweeted Chicago White Sox Big raw power, 80 arm, lotta swing & miss. Scouts didn't like the adjustments he made this year to try to fix it. Good numbers at AAA, tho.
  14. 670 The Score ‏@670TheScore 3m3 minutes ago #Bulls send Bobby Portis, Paul Zipser to D-League to get playing time with Windy City Bulls tonight
  15. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jan 6, 2017 -> 02:14 PM) We could technically see Avi Garcia in RF, Willy Garcia in LF, and Leury Garcia in CF at some point. And it would be the saddest OF in White Sox history. That is a #1 draft pick of an OF.
  16. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jan 6, 2017 -> 02:09 PM) Tilson. I think Liriano can play a little CF as well, but better suited for the corners. Leury Garcia? Leury has to be the most thrilled guy of all with this rebuild.
  17. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 6, 2017 -> 01:49 PM) This^ It wasn't a waiver claim so he can go to the minors (unless he has an opt-out which I didn't see. Not really good enough to warrant one). He actually has a decent amount of major league time so it is possible he gets a drop dead date where the team either has to add him or set him free.
  18. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jan 6, 2017 -> 01:46 PM) Can the Sox keep him in AAA without the risk of losing him on waivers? I believe so, just confirming. If he is signed to a minor league deal he isn't subject to major league waivers unless he is called up.
  19. He is only 24, which is interesting. The guy doesn't walk at all though.
  20. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 6, 2017 -> 11:55 AM) Ive seen no bashing at all. Its quite logical to point out Abreu's numbers are trending downwards because you can bet that any GM calling about Abreu is going to point that out when Abreu's value is discussed. Same with Frazier's low BA and high k-rate that really hurt his value along with the fact there's plenty of power bats in FA and a very small demand for third baseman. As for Q, there has been no bashing in this thread or the Q thread and in fact the high expectations of a return from a Q trade show how highly he is valued by those participating in the threads about Q. The real bashing will start when people see what Abreu and Frazier being back in return. Declining number combined with a lack of MLB interest in the types of players that Frazier and Abreu are.

  22. JoeChristensen ‏@JoeCStrib 41m41 minutes ago Source confirms that it's a five-year, $18.5 million deal for Fleck -- $3.5 million average per season.
  23. QUOTE (peavy44 @ Jan 6, 2017 -> 08:32 AM) Trade Melky to giants Trade Frazier to St louis Cardinals or new York Mets Trade Jose Quintana to the Pirates or Rockies Trade Abreu to Texas Rangers Starting with the very top line, the Giants supposedly don't have room under the luxury cap. Last I knew the Mets were fairly broke and didn't have room for another big contract either.
  24. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 5, 2017 -> 07:29 PM) He is criminally underrated/undervalued on this site. He could definitely get a top-50 guy, plus one other top-150 guy. It isn't this site. Look at the hitters around baseball who have put up similar to better numbers and can't find jobs. Why would someone give up that much for Abreu when they could pick a free agent without giving up any of the future.
