Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (RockfordJim @ Dec 30, 2016 -> 12:37 PM) Just saw this. Sorry if its already been discussed. http://sportsmockery.com/2016/12/mlb-insid...cago-white-sox/ DeLeon is supposed to be the headliner for a Twins/Dozier deal, so that sounds a bit fishy.

2016-2017 NFL Thread
QUOTE (shipps @ Dec 30, 2016 -> 09:07 AM) Listening to Dowell Loggains talk about how it was hard for him to see how good Howard is as a back(pretty much half a season to consider him as good). Saying it took a while because he basically didnt see the same talent from practice as what shown in game situations. Thats why it took soo long for him to run the damn ball this year and even still doesnt get enough enough carries. Loggains is terrible. Reading between the lines, its sounds like a nice way of saying Howard is lazy in practivce.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Dec 30, 2016 -> 09:50 AM) The golden rule to consider before you propose a trade involving your team - would you accept this if you were the GM of the other team? GMs would probably accept roughly 0.34% of proposed online trades. Realistically with as hard as it is to consummate a trade in MLB, that percentage probably represents how many trades are accepted between GM's.

White Sox will keep trying Collins as a C
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 30, 2016 -> 09:09 AM) The proverbial pitching death star still has a long way to go and still needs offense to back it up. Our offense is more like a bunch of stormtroopers trying to defend the death star.

White Sox will keep trying Collins as a C
QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Dec 29, 2016 -> 01:23 PM) Isn't a .700 OPS C considered good and a borderline starter? Because that doesn't seem like an impossible line for him, maybe something like .270/.340/.360, which doesn't seem implausible. Combine that with good D and framing, and I think he's at least worth a look. Worst case, he gets you closer to the #1 overall pick in 2018. His career MiLB number is .689 so that isn't a crazy number. In 2016 the AL's average C put up an OPS of .681, the NL .722 for a league average of .701. In 2015 the AL average was .676, the NL .686 for an MLB average of .681. In other words if Narvaez can put up a .650 to .675 OPS, he would be slightly under league average, or probably in line with a typical back up catcher around MLB.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 29, 2016 -> 12:28 PM) Not sure why you'd think a 24-year old would regress offensively. But I am also not sure what you mean he'd be regressing from. He's got a good batter's eye and a quiet swing. He will be light-hitting, but remember too, this is a guy who posted some of the lowest K-rates in the minors in the entire Sox system, and had the best K:BB rates in the system multiple years. And you can't tell much about someone's framing in 30-ish games. Narvaez won't hit homers. But given his other defensive skills he's likely to improve in the framing department. Flowers wasn't good at it when he reached the majors either. He wasn't released - the Sox got him in the MiLB Rule 5. It was just a reserve roster protection numbers game. I don't think Narvaez is a starter, but I do think he's a competent MLB backup C. Yeah, I don't think he will hit enough to be a #1, but I liked the work he did behind the plate, and the game he called.

Weekly Farm Update 12/29
QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 29, 2016 -> 11:57 AM) Sox signed Jorge Rondon to a minor league deal. I would assume he'll be an NRI. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/r/rondojo01.shtml He is a walk machine.

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Dec 29, 2016 -> 11:44 AM) Meanwhile Addison Reed actually turned out to be really, really good (although typically, after he left the Diamondbacks) Reed was never a complete failure at the major league level either. He was usually at least OK.

Sox eyeing FA sluggers
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 29, 2016 -> 12:11 AM) Does anyone want to put statistical odds on Coats, Liriano, Engel or Jacob May being on a major league roster at the start of the 2020 season? The main benefit of them playing is the POSSIBILITY that just one of them is a 4th outfielder on a good team, like Saladino being a supersub/utility guy on a playoff-caliber squad. I'd take driving down the White Sox record into the 60's win total from the low 70's if it means not having to watch Avi Garcia for another full season. That said, the odds seem HIGH that they would continue with Garcia for more than 2-3 months if he's still in that 675-725 OPS range (due to his obvious defensive limitations). At that time (late June/July), you'd have playing time to give to the guys previously mentioned, as well as Davidson and anyone acquired via trade for some of our other veterans. 0

White Sox Big Board, org-wide
QUOTE (southside hitman @ Dec 28, 2016 -> 05:58 PM) I defended the Shields deal at the time because I thought he had something left in the tank (lol nope) and knew Johnson and a LatAm lottery ticket wasn't a steep price. Johnson is who we thought he was but Tatis Jr looks interesting which could be bad. But still, at the time, it was defensible considering the situation. I want to see what Shields looks like this spring. I really think there was something to the injury thing.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 28, 2016 -> 07:18 PM) My guess for rest of offseason: Trade Q Trade Robertson Put Jones in as closer, Trade Jones at deadline. Can't move melky for more than a salary dump. Sox need to make decision if Frazier return is better than a 2nd or 3rd round salary allotment. I am in the camp that doesn't see the rest of the list of players after Nate Jones having much value. I think a lot of these guys are back next year because there is no line of teams that really wants to trade for them.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 28, 2016 -> 07:08 PM) I would not give up a top 100 prospect for Todd Frazier with the number of bats available on the FA market and their seemingly dropping prices. I find it entirely reasonable to have him after Jennings in terms of trade value. I do agree he would appear to be above Gonzalez. Edit: Following this same logic I could find Abreu lower on that list than #3 as well. There is such a large drop off between Jones and the #3 person on the list. Honestly in terms of actual trade value, it might even be Jennings at #3 just based on how ridiculous trade values for relievers have gotten.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (rowand's rowdies @ Dec 28, 2016 -> 03:08 PM) Q and Nate Jones for Schwarber, Baez and Happ + (Cease or Underwood) work for everyone? Would you have a problem trading with the Cubs? It wouldn't feel good helping the Cubs out with Q and Jones but that haul would be exactly what we need. Yo to CF, Baez & Happ at 2B/3B Anderson at SS, Schwarber at DH leave Abreu at 1B. We find ourselves a Catcher and corner OFs and half our pitching prospects turn out well we're locked and loaded for 2019 and fun to watch until then. I don't see the Sox wanted the major league guys. If they did, I would imagine that they would only want one of Baez or Schwarber, probably Baez, and would rather have other minor leaguers to get it done. Heck the Sox just gave up a guy with 5 years of control, I don't see getting two of those back versus guys you can basically squeeze seven years out of. If I had to put together what a deal should look like, it would be something like Jimenez, Happ, Candelario, Eddy Martinez, and Caratini to get a Q + Jones deal done.

It makes a whole lot of sense to take a chance on a guy like this. The prices of these types of hitters are so cheap relative to the rest of the market right now.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Dec 28, 2016 -> 12:25 PM) Not surprising. Turns out just about everyone is finding that acquiring players like Moncada, Giolito, Kopech and Lopez is far more exciting than the acquisitions you lauded as "surreal" back in February/March, those of Rollins, Jackson, Latos, et al. See that's the funny part. Two months ago, this front office should have been fired, and never allowed to work again. People were hoping the owner of this team would die, so that someone else could own the team. The same people who are posting gigantic lists of failed players now somehow believe that this same front office that brought us all of those players can't be questioned unless you have your own fully detailed plan in place to counter it with. The same people that brought us Rollins, Jackson, Latos et al are still the same people in charge. But now I have people telling me that I should not be allowed to question them, otherwise I might hurt somebody's feelings because they won't believe in the rebuild anymore. Literally nothing at the top has changed, but now they can't be questioned, even when fans have unrealistic expectations. Seriously I feel like I have walked into a Scientology convention.
