2016-2017 NBA Thread
QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 10:04 AM) Really sucked to lose that game to Portland. Totally winnable. Sort of feel like MCW will be a big help because relying on Canaan for big minutes is brutal. Gibson-Lopez-Wade-Butler is a real dominant force, but we can't use it late in fourth. I say screw that, just play them and force the other team to deal with not being able to rebound and lets roll the dice with Taj on perimeter defense. More than anything, this team needs to play some defense. They are just awful as a team. The front line is terrible.

Legitimate chance of Sale trade to #Nationals per Rosenthal
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 10:07 AM) If Boston would rather move Moncada than Benintendi, that's fine. Moncada was a higher ranked prospect for a long time and has more upside IMO, though he also has much more risk. He's definitely a worthy centerpiece in a Sale trade...much more so than Giolito or Robles. I think when you get into that level of players, it becomes a teams personal preference. This is where your scouts and developmental people have to take the lead.

Legitimate chance of Sale trade to #Nationals per Rosenthal
QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 09:57 AM) I, for one, have confidence in the FO to do this. I don't necessarily blame them for holding out, either. In regards to my comments about Turner, I am just reading the tea leaves here. I truly think if the main two pieces from the Nats were agreed to, this would have continued to pick up steam last night. I think they are targeting the right types of players. I just hold a level of doubt about getting them to the majors. I know things have gotten better recently, but I keep asking myself the question is it because we are drafting better, or developing better.

Legitimate chance of Sale trade to #Nationals per Rosenthal
QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 08:55 AM) I smell what you're stepping in but I just don't think it reflects the belief of our own FO. Having a bad taste in your mouth about the front office is understandable. But at the same time, there is a ton of fire out there that shows they are doing exactly what everyone wants them to be doing. They are asking for the sun, but working to get the moon and Mars instead.

Legitimate chance of Sale trade to #Nationals per Rosenthal
QUOTE (kwill @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 02:01 AM) I would still lean towards a package with De Leon and Bellinger as the headliners. i don't know if that is possible at this point but they seem closer to the big leagues. I get the feeling the Dodgers wanted to have Puig be part of the centerpiece of the deal. I still think they have an interest in Sale. Not many times you could put together the two top lefties in the game. There was a rumor out about DeLeon having a shoulder problem.

Legitimate chance of Sale trade to #Nationals per Rosenthal
QUOTE (Two-Gun Pete @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 12:47 AM) These two posts express my sentiment, without the cursing. With prospects, there is still a clear and present danger of busting out, or of injuries stopping a career before it gets going. (Especially, given what we've seen in the Nats two prospects.) Thus, a premium would have to be paid in order to get the proven product. That aside, if I were a Nats fan, I would be stoked about robbing the stupid white sox if the shoe were on the other foot. I'll fully admit that perhaps I place a greater importance on a prospect's numbers than I should. But then, we've all seen top 10 prospects bust out; these rankings are subjective, and for that, I believe we can place too much faith in a prospect's rankng. At some point you have to walk past whatever prejudices you have here, and acknowledge that while rankings are subjective, there is a lot of research and technique to them. There are real skills that can be observed and followed. It isn't subjective in the sense that it is random. It is subjective in the sense that different scouts can look at someone's current ability and get a different read on what their future skills might be. What isn't subjective is that you are talking about a guy who has a 95mph fastball, and a 19 year old kid that universally is regarded as being a potential future star in MLB who might be able to do five things well at the major league level. It also isn't subjective that Washington pushed this kid as hard as the Sox pushed Courtney Hawkins. Stop and think about that for a second. This kid is putting up a solid OPS at a level where he is probably the youngest player in the entire league, or damned close to it. So while you can hand-wave away things and pick the most simple of explanations that fits your mood, you do so by ignoring a wide body of evidence and history that tells a completely different story.

Legitimate chance of Sale trade to #Nationals per Rosenthal
QUOTE (Two-Gun Pete @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 11:51 PM) Or, better yet:change the people making the decisions, FIRST, and THEN, let a better, smarter front office make better and smarter decisions. Remember, kids: Kenny Williams completed high school before the advent of "No Pass, No Play" Laws in California. Kenny Williams got into Stanford before the advent of Proposition 48, and then only bothered to stay for 1 semester... Just something to think about when evaluating this front office's results. This is incredibly ignorant, and borderline racist trash. If you are going to tell people to think, you should probably give them something to think about. This is about the lowest of lowest common denominator posting.

Sox/Rockies talking Abreu or Frazier
Knowing nothing else but looking at their prospect list, anyone know anything of substance on catcher Tom Murphy?

Sox/Rockies talking Abreu or Frazier
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 10:01 PM) After Abreu's season, yeah. Hoffman, Tapia, McMahon would be pretty great but I highly doubt it. That seems like a lot of surplus value for a guy hitting his expensive arb trips, and who can't really play 1B.

Legitimate chance of Sale trade to #Nationals per Rosenthal
QUOTE (raBBit @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 09:49 PM) Rosenthal said they're negotiating the other pieces. Plural. I'll trust Rosenthal over Bowden. A large part of what you need from a Sale trade is a shot of quantity into a minor league system that has none. Once you establish the front line players, you need multiple other pieces to fill it in with.

Legitimate chance of Sale trade to #Nationals per Rosenthal
QUOTE (b-Rye @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 09:54 PM) A 16th pick from 2012 and a foreign amateur free agent for a 3 years of sale is a massive fail. If he doesn't get hurt, he is probably the #1 pick.

Legitimate chance of Sale trade to #Nationals per Rosenthal
QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 09:44 PM) Giolito's stock really plummeted after he was awful in 4 starts last year. He's got the tools, but who knows if it'll translate well to the Majors. Realistically the kid has pitched 37 IP at AAA, and 21 at MLB. He was disgusting at AAA, and struggled with control at MLB. It is kind of similar to the arc that Rodon took after he got to the high minors. Rodon also had the same control and repeatability problems, so it isn't surprising to see a guy with a similar ceiling and stuff have the same struggles. The kid has an ace top. Not many pitchers can say that, especially after they are have gotten this far. If the Nationals are putting that high of stock into that, and that is why he is available, well then the next question is, do you trust your scouts, and your ability to develop front line pitchers? For my two cents if Don Cooper looks at the guy and sees a super start pitcher, that is all I need to hear. Then you move on to Robles, and filling in the deal behind him.

Legitimate chance of Sale trade to #Nationals per Rosenthal
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 09:35 PM) Bowden: The White Sox and Nationals are far down the road on a trade that will send Chris Sale to the Nationals in exchange for Lucas Giolito, Victor Robles and a low minor leaguer. Reynaldo Lopez and Koda Glover will not be in the proposed deal. The structure of the deal was first reported by Ken Rosenthal. 3 players for Sale sounds super light. You would think there would be some quantity to go with the quality.

Here is my complete guess as something plausible to get a deal done Giolitto, Robles, Severino, Soto and Fedde.

Legitimate chance of Sale trade to #Nationals per Rosenthal
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 09:27 PM) Probably profiles at best a platoon, defensive catcher. Supposedly he is the best defensive catcher in the minors. For a team that has given away a lot with bad catchers, there is some charm in fixing that.

Legitimate chance of Sale trade to #Nationals per Rosenthal
QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 09:23 PM) Rabbit alluded to this on twitter but what I most regret about it veering away from Red Sox were the devers/kopech/Rodriguez pieces that made it a strong deal up and down. Excited about severino/ etc but much less so. The Nationals have a lot of those same types of pieces. They don't get as much hype as they aren't in the Boston media market, but as I outlined a few pages ago, they can load up a deal with the best of them. The one spot they don't have as much of is ready made position players, but they are loaded with them at the lower levels of the minors, all of the way through to some big time guys signed out of Latin America.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 08:08 PM) Just in time for the new season on new year's. Lucky you. I think the best part of British television, especially Sherlock, is that the episodes are long and they're done airing in a few weeks. Oh and make sure you watch the Christmas Special The Abominable Bride. Totally. I mean I compare it to the Sherlock Holmes movies we had a few years back which are complete garbage, and I can't believe they are trying to tell the same story.

Legitimate chance of Sale trade to #Nationals per Rosenthal
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 08:41 PM) With these tweets, I fully expect a deal done in the next 24 hours and very possibly later tonight. Sox aren't going to leak that the Nationals are close unless they are seriously considering an offer from them. This is going to be a very interesting night for us. To be fair, after the way the Nationals screwed the Sox at the deadline a few years ago, I don't think they feel bad using Rizzo.

Legitimate chance of Sale trade to #Nationals per Rosenthal
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 08:35 PM) The funny thing is the Rosenthal/Heyman reports are clearly direct Sox leaks to induce bidding so either Garfein has a very truthful, lower level source or a bad one. All though you would think that the Sox would coordinate that with their local guys.
