  1. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 08:35 PM) The funny thing is the Rosenthal/Heyman reports are clearly direct Sox leaks to induce bidding so either Garfein has a very truthful, lower level source or a bad one. All though you would think that the Sox would coordinate that with their local guys.
  2. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 08:35 PM) Robles is a CF with superstar potential, while Giolito has legit ace upside. Both guys are universally considered top 10 to 15 prospects. And just for reference, he are some familiar names from BA's midseaon top 100 list: 1. Moncada 4. Giolito 5. Turner 7. Swanson 8. Bregman 9. Benintendi 13. Robles People keep saying they need a Turner, Benintendi, or Bregman headliner, but I'd argue that Giolito & Robles are basically on that same level just with more downside risk. Regardless, the only pair of prospects that would be a better get would be Moncada & Benintendi. If Hahn pulls this off with at least one of Lopez/Fedde and some other positional pieces in the package, I will beyond f***ing ecstatic. Yeah 2 of the top 13 in baseball is pretty nice. I'd rather the top piece not be a pitcher, but this deal will largely depend on what the end of the deal looks like. There are nice pitching pieces like Fedde and Lopez. A guy like Pedro Severino makes a ton of sense for a catching starved franchise, and a Reetz a bit further behind.. They have a boat load of position players the Sox could use, those most of the top guys are years away. They also have some interesting international guys that might make a deal sweeter too, such as Juan Soto or Anderson Franco.
  3. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 08:19 PM) That kinda seems like a thing. Now you wait for word from other interested clubs. Yep, this puts the gauntlet down for other teams. Now do they step up with their #1 guys?
  4. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 06:41 PM) Josh Nelson of SSS is really salty right now about Hahn's comment being in a rebuild because Hahn won't come out and flat say that we're rebuilding If he isn't smart enough to realize why, he is a waste of time to read.
  5. Just finally discovered it, but the BBC version of Sherlock might one of the greatest shows ever. It is so incredibly well done. I just love it. We binged all three seasons in about a week.
  6. TR Sullivan ‏@Sullivan_Ranger 1h1 hour ago Rangers interested in Cubs outfielder Jorge Soler, the right-handed bat people say will come in the form of Encarnacion, Trumbo or Napoli
  7. Bernie Pleskoff ‏@BerniePleskoff 30m30 minutes ago The #RedSox have exercised their club option on manager John Farrell for the 2018 season.
  8. Scott Merkin ‏@scottmerkin 29m29 minutes ago Maryland, USA Rick Hahn did not come out and directly say White Sox are rebuilding. But everything he said over past 16 minutes, they are rebuilding
  9. Daryl Van Schouwen ‏@CST_soxvan 13m13 minutes ago Explaining re-signing of Brett Lawrie, Hahn alluded to his ability to play 3B. Translation: Todd Frazier, like most everyone, is expendable.
  10. FutureSox ‏@FutureSox 11m11 minutes ago The #WhiteSox signed LHP Bryan Lara to a MiLB deal, per @MattEddyBA of @BaseballAmerica. Can't find any info on him. Crowd knowledge?
  11. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 04:53 PM) Ton of Hahn quotes on Twitter. Says he won't compromise for Sale https://twitter.com/CST_soxvan/status/805907375215484930
  12. Jayson Stark ‏@jaysonst 26s27 seconds ago Jayson Stark Retweeted Daryl Van Schouwen Surveyed several teams that are in on Sale this afternoon. They don't expect him to get moved at the meetings. The price hasn't dropped.
  13. QUOTE (Tony @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 03:13 PM) That is correct. When you become one of the highest paid players in the league, expectations are set. Toews agreed to the deal. And he has not earned his salary since he signed it. Still love the guy, and would still probably want the Hawks to do it again if they could, but the fact remains the numbers haven't been there. Eh, this time last year everyone was saying that Hossa was done. Playing over an injury and having instability on his line make a lot of sense for Toews. I am certainly not panicking and writing him off yet.
  14. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 04:38 PM) Rabbit: Guess you got up on the wrong side of the bed this morning. I'm simply repeating what I read on these exact forums this trading deadline when many "experts" including some here were saying the Sox will be better off waiting. That may turn out to be the case. But IF the report I quoted is true simple logic says that the number of interested suitors is dropping. Personally to me it is "typical" Sox luck that despite having one of the best trading assets in recent memory they may not be able to move him at all to start the rebuilding process. I mean that's so White Sox isn't it? I don't have a dog in the hunt...either way the Sox won't be going anywhere for the next few seasons regardless of what direction they take. I'm just hoping to outlive current ownership and hope for better days down the road. Mark In order for this to be wrong, there would have to be proof that there were either better offers or more suitors at the break. Seemingly neither one is true. This off season has seen Houston, Atlanta, and Washington come to the forefront. There is also no reports that show that top prospects were available at the break. I think the closest was that LA MIGHT consider Urias. But, for example, out of Boston the report was that Moncada was a no go, and that the Red Sox didn't want to include Benindendi. I have yet to see a single report that shows a team is offering less than they were at the break. Not a single one.
  15. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 04:33 PM) He's a lawyer...he's trained to say a lot of words that don't pigeonhole him into any particular position Not to mention that he has flat out said at times that if the truth isn't beneficial to the teams position, they won't make it public.
  16. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 04:22 PM) Ha, so we have two interpretrations. I guess that's a classic Hahn quote. Or an unclear tweet by an old man who is awful on twitter.
  17. White Sox Talk ‏@CSNWhiteSox 25m25 minutes ago Jose Quintana to play for Colombia in 2017 World Baseball Classic - http://ift.tt/2hbjbI9 #WhiteSoxTalk
  18. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 04:07 PM) Confused if order means "which piece goes first" or order as in there was no top-down directive given to rebuild. My guess is that he wasn't told he has to trade specific players.
  19. QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 03:27 PM) Fine to have that view. IMO, not fine to think Rodon is a disappointment or a bust like some other posters are implying. The crazy thing is that it isn't that hard to closer your eyes and imagine the Sox taking the slow approach and Rodon being rated as the top prospect in all of baseball as he destroys AA hitters.
  20. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 03:14 PM) At the time it would have been very difficult to not select Rodon and watch the Cubs select him right after you. He was the right pick at the time and still can prove to be a quality starter At the time the ONLY reason you don't pick Carlos Rodon was because you weren't sure he would sign with you. Also at the time the Schwarber pick was by far the biggest headscratcher of the draft and was being spun more on cost savings for overslot signings later in the draft, than it was for actual Kyle Schwarber. Even today Rodon has the ceiling to be a workhorse type of ace from the left side. Schwarber can't handle a real position as of today, though he looks to have superstar homer potential.
  21. QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 01:00 PM) Jon Heyman ‏@JonHeyman 2m2 minutes ago Nats are said to stepping for Sale. Meeting this aft. Red Sox are involved, and others, too. Things are heating up! LET'S $#@$^$ GO!!! QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 02:41 PM) Is there a set time in which the Sox and Nats are sitting down for a meeting to discuss Sale? Using this as the reference tweet, no specific time was assigned to it.
  22. Rich Hill is going to be making 10 million more dollars over the next three years, than Chris Sale will.
  23. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 02:35 PM) Well, if nothing else good comes from it, hopefully it helps to create more perceived value for Sale. Personally I hope this is the case. Maybe if Houston or Boston see this talk the give in and include their star prospect to move ahead of Washington? Who knows. We do know that the Sox have worked well with both Houston and Dombrowski in the past.
  24. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 02:30 PM) Yeah, I've seen you referencing this, but hopefully they can let bygones be bygones. It is in each of their best interests to work together. It takes a lot of trust to take the time to build a major deal that includes a guy like Chris Sale, maybe even to the detriment of other deals. If you have in mind that the guy across the table is maybe jerking you around, do you still get there? Seems like human nature to me.
  25. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 01:39 PM) I think it goes a little something like this: Hahn - "Mike, you can offer Giolito and Robles all day long, but I've got to have Turner." Rizzo - "If I'm giving up Turner, I can't give you Giolito OR Robles...and I'm not even sure I can get a sign off on Turner, to be honest." Hahn - "You know our suite #, Mike." Rizzo - "Rick, you've got to help me offset Turner if I'm going to move him..." Hahn - "What about Melky?" Rizzo - "Come on Rick. I need someone who will be here for at least a couple years. Give me Adam." Hahn - Eaton is not off the table, but then I'm going to need Turner and your top 3-4 guys, Mike." After what happened between the two teams a few years back, I wonder if a deal for Sale is even possible, let alone a mega deal.
