2016 Republican Thread
So after Trump's billion dollar loss, Hillary has taken to asking "What kind of genius loses a billion dollars?" The funny part is that three of the six biggest losses of all time for a corporation are the same corporation. Fannie Mae. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_large...fits_and_losses

Best Backyard for kids?
QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 4, 2016 -> 11:16 AM) Yeah, that is a great point about safety. Drowning is the largest cause of accidental death for children below the age of 16 in southern Nevada (or something like that). For the pool option, we were planning on an automatic pool cover to help provide additional security, in addition to the legally required fences and what not. As for what would we get more usage out of...I honestly don't know...I know as a kid I would have been out on that sport court as much as I could...heck, I used to throw a ball against the brick wall of my house for hours at a time...I can only imagine if I would have had something like that. The pavilion is also pretty cool, but I just wonder if that really offers activities we can't already do, just outside...not sure that is worth the kind of $ a project like that would require. Have you got room to mix 2 and 3? Have an entertainment area, and maybe a half court instead of a near full court?

Best Backyard for kids?
For my two cents, it would be all about personal preference. What will you get more usage out of? If it is JUST about kid safety, pools are one of the most dangerous things out there. It takes seconds for a kid to wander away and fall in. But if you guys are good with securing the pool, etc, that's something that can be over come as well.

Renteria to Replace Ventura
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 4, 2016 -> 08:27 AM) I'd like to argue this morning that a Frazier extension is a poor idea for the White Sox. Todd Frazier is a guy who I think is likely to be among the "fast dropoff" players. He is a guy with one strong plus tool - power. He has poor plate discipline overall - a strikeout rate above 20% and a walk rate only 8%, for his career. That means he's a guy who swings a lot, makes limited contact, but gets value when he makes contact because the ball goes far. In general, these are guys who do not age well. I think generally speaking statistics bears this out - Fraziers skill set is one that sees pretty rapid dropoffs sometime in the early to mid 30's. (a couple links: Link1, link2; link3) I believe we actually have seen some of this already. Take a look at his last 1.5 seasons of baseball - his power is still there, but his K rate shot up this year and the amount of weak contact he made also went up. If you convinced yourself you were getting an all star 3b this year, either you're name is Rick Hahn and you're severely overpaid or you were otherwise quite disappointed. These are what you see drop off in guys like him - in order to keep hitting the ball out of the park he has to put more into each swing, but that exposes him more to striking out, and eventually if the power tool weakens at all or his eye weakens at all, he can hit a cliff where his HR total drops off to the 20s and suddenly he's putting up Adam LaRoche numbers. He could darn well still have several good years in him, this is only speaking in terms of averages and there are always guys who break the trends, but an extension for Frazier is betting on him being a guy who breaks the trend. If you're going to make that bet, you better have a team in the first year or two of that deal that is otherwise loaded, because the back couple years could have a serious dropoff hidden in there. This might be the least surprising post in the history of Soxtalk.

QUOTE (oldsox @ Oct 4, 2016 -> 07:14 AM) C/mon Man. Get real. Do you think Boston will give up Moncada? No way. After popping $60 Million for him? And you think Sox will throw $18 Large at Pedro Alvarez??? What?? When it is the White Sox, it is dead money, and they should cut him, like was said about John Danks. On top of it, this money was already paid out. It is literally gone money.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 3, 2016 -> 05:01 PM) While Shaw only got preseason games even with his suspension history. That's not very consistent IMO That hit was dirty as hell. Honestly the whole end of that game was dirty. I really don't blame the league for that.

2016 Republican Thread
QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ Oct 3, 2016 -> 04:03 PM) SS2k did not say "All," but his statement also did not qualify what he thought HC was running on beside Bill's record. He said that HC is running on her husband's record. The implication is that is all she is running on. SS2k did not say she's "basically" or "mostly" or any other words that would imply that he thinks HC brings anything more to the table than Bill's presidency. I shouldn't have to clarify that it was not an absolute statement. If I wanted to make an absolute statement, I would have, and would have clearly done it. I swear sometimes that people have gotten trained for finding offense in everything, and don't know how to handle something that isn't. To be clear. Hillary Clinton has absolutely brought the Bill Clinton Presidency into her campaign as a very clear roadmarker of the ways that she portrays she is qualified to be President. As I said earlier, this statement is no different than what George HR Bush or Al Gore did when they ran for President having worked in highly popular White Houses as a high level. Hopefully it isn't sexist to say that Al Gore ran on Bill Clinton's Presidency. Because of that it is absolutely fair to judge what happened both successfully and unsuccessfully under that Presidency for its merits on this campaign. the candidate introduced that as a deciding factor, not me. And yes, Hillary Clinton has a lot of her own record to run on as well. She has a long history of being on the wrong side of a lot of initial decisions, only to change her mind later on to the more politically popular point of view. A large part of her campaign is also built on temperament, and being able to make right decisions under pressure, and without foresight. That also makes things like what has happened in Syria, Libya, and Ukraine under her watch absolutely topics of relevance. It also makes her vote on Iraq important. It is easy to way you were wrong down the road, but as President the die is already cast, and being wrong isn't really a fixable thing. So before the offended train departs the station again, hopefully that clears things up.

Harold Baines back on HOF ballot
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Oct 3, 2016 -> 04:02 PM) And the 1981+1994 strikes very well could be the reason he doesn't just have them. I do agree that he's probably one of the very best of the Hall of Very Good players, but still, he has a better argument than some others in the Hall. I think he is the hitting version of Tommy John.

QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Oct 3, 2016 -> 04:02 PM) If they were pressured with winning today, they would have traded Urias for someone like Q back in July. Now Urias had a few months to prove himself, and Dodgers are growing comfort with him in the rotation. Also, there are other arms they can now sign that weren't available in July. I fully believe that what they do in the playoffs will dictate what happens next. If they bow out early, all bets are off. If they win it all, the pressure to add goes away.

Renteria to Replace Ventura
QUOTE (shipps @ Oct 3, 2016 -> 03:55 PM) I cant see Frazier going anywhere. I think the org (including Hawk) loves him so much that its more likely Frazier eventually gets a contract offer than getting traded. I think a Frazier extension makes a lot of sense.

Renteria to Replace Ventura
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Oct 3, 2016 -> 03:43 PM) Not with his agent but it may become common for pitchers to re-sign early to protect themselves in case of injury. Even if Rodon has Tommy John surgery tomorrow, he still has years of pitching ahead of him.

Your Off Season Plan
QUOTE (Dunt @ Oct 3, 2016 -> 03:50 PM) I wholeheartedly agree with you. I think they like some of the young core theyve put together, but I think they are really eyeing that 2018 FA class for when they fully make their move. Is a deal revolving around Frazier and Torres enough for Sale though? I have no idea what the Sox would ask for from the Yankees. They are one team that was remarkably silent during all of that Sale talk, though they way they loaded up on prospects makes me really suspicious. Honestly I don't think they would forgive themselves if they let Sale go to Boston.

By the Numbers 2016 season...
QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Oct 3, 2016 -> 12:39 PM) This game is a "bottom-line" business. The bottom line is the won/lost record. So while there were some fine individual performances the team / organization as a whole failed once again to even have a winning season. As stated that's four years in a row and seven out of the last 10. Generally speaking with that track record over a good period of time, good individual performances while nice are meaningless to me by and large. Feel free to put together a list of all the positive things if you wish. Every year, good or bad, I stick to the categories that I posted because I personally think they are relevant and important. And I hope you noticed I did post the number of times and the breakdown of games the Sox came from behind to win when trailing in the 7th inning or later. Mark The big thing I am going to take away from this season is Tyler Saladino, Tim Anderson, and Miguel Gonzalez. While on the surface it isn't much, what it does show is that the White Sox are producing starting caliber position players that they are drafting and developing out of their farm system. You can also include guys like Marcus Semien and Tracye Thompson if you like, but at the end of the day what it means is that the combination of Hoestetler and Bell are indeed capable of not only finding talent, but in giving it the tools to get the major leagues and contribute. It is also showing that the Sox still have the golden touch when it comes to pitching. I am also going to take away Marco Paddy. While he was hired in November 2011, because of the nature of his job the results of his work are finally starting to show. He signed his first class of 16 year olds for the White Sox in July of 2012. He now has kids moving into the middle tiers of our minor league system. The lower levels are loaded with Latin American talent. Our FutureSox top prospect lists are filling up with products of Marco Paddy's work. Somewhere around half of the Arizona rookie team's roster this year is a direct result of this. Personally those are the two biggest things I am going to take away from this season, because they are going to be cornerstones of the future of this squad.

Your Off Season Plan
QUOTE (Dunt @ Oct 3, 2016 -> 03:38 PM) A big problem with rebuilding this offseason is that a lot of the best prospects in the game right now are in rebuilding organizations. You can sit there and hope the Red Sox will trade a package of Benintendi, Moncada, Devers, etc., but they don't need to trade for pitching. The Dodgers don't really need to either honestly. The good teams have insulated themselves so they don't have to overpay. I dont see a ton of guys out there right now that are going to come up and be no doubt offensive studs. Would you trade a guy like Q to the Pirates for a deal centered around Austin Meadows maybe? Do you really foresee the Yankees trading a bunch of the guys they just acquired for an ace? This looks like a really bad situation the Sox are in. Hope Jerry is ready to break open that piggy bank. Out of all of those teams, I have no doubt the Yankees would let us pick who we want out of their system to get Sale.

Renteria to Replace Ventura

Your Off Season Plan
QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Oct 3, 2016 -> 02:03 PM) There is no GM in MLB who will give you Urias for Q, let alone "a lot more". Despite what fWAR suggests, other teams do not see Q as a true ace, and that is what Urias would have to go for. Exactly. You would not trade a top prospect who has already shown moderate success in the majors with a helium ceciling for another pitcher just because you "want" a more proven pitcher. I just don't know how much the dodgers are gaining from this. The ship for dealing Urias is gone, unless Dodgers are trying to pry a superstar away from another team. The Dodgers get today. They don't have to wait a year or two, or maybe never to see if Urias hits on his talent.

Harold Baines back on HOF ballot
QUOTE (Black_Jack29 @ Oct 3, 2016 -> 01:59 PM) Harold was one of my favorite players back in the day, but I agree that his numbers don't merit a spot in Cooperstown. This. I love the dude, but not a HOF.

Why Do KW/RH Get to Keep Their Jobs?
QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Oct 3, 2016 -> 12:34 PM) One of the columnists at the Tribune had this to say this morning and it's also a valid point in my opinion: "The onus is now on Hahn, the architect of this mess. And fortunately for Renteria, Hahn will make sure pitching coach for life Don Cooper is calling the shots on the pitching side. Despite fine seasons by Sale and Jose Quintana, the Sox are 14th in the majors in pitching this year, just as they were last year. They were 20th in 2013, and 27th in 2014. Cooper has never been on the hot seat, for reasons unknown. Sox fans deserve better. They've put up with a lot of nonsense the last few years, and no one seems to take responsibility." Mark Do you blame Cooper for Shields and Danks?
