Bill Mitchell @billazbbphotog 37m37 minutes ago Hansen now has enough innings pitched to qualify for the Pioneer League prospect list. Matt Eddy @MattEddyBA Alec Hansen's early success in Pioneer League reminds me of fellow Oklahoma starter Garrett Richards, who charted similar course.

Construct A "Going For It" 2017 Roster
QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 12:27 PM) Since Hahn was hired in 2012 there have been an additional 17 teams that hired new GMs. Of those 17 new GMs, 10 have been stuck with the manger they inherited and only 3 (Dave Stewart with Arizona, Jerry Dipoto with Seattle and Matthew Silverman with Tampa Bay) were allowed to hire a new manager from the get go. So I would definitely say it's not new GM 101 that they get to pick their own manager. As a matter of fact it's not all that common. Just 17% of new GMs have been allowed to immediately hand pick their own manager since 2012. Nice work.

Carlos Gomez DFA'd
QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 12:13 PM) With all the money KW/Hahn have already wasted I kind of doubt they want to add another $2.5MM on top of it. If they are thinking about signing him for next year, there is good reason not to bring him in. If they aren't interested, then yes, ignore him.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 12:05 PM) And if he continues to suck, Hahn and KW are still idiots who love veterans who can't play anymore. I'm just wondering how good Houston is if they draft Kris Bryant instead of Appel, and keep JD Martinez around. They probably don't trade for Gomez. Realistically the dude is owed something just under 2.5 million dollars for the rest of the season. They can look at it as an option on next year.

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 11:35 AM) If nothing more than a tryout for next year - why the heck not. This is my thought. This is a cheap test drive to see what you think of how he fits into the clubhouse.

His defensive numbers are significantly better than what we are getting now, even if he has regressed from his peak.

2016 MLB catch all thread
QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 12:18 AM) Correct. But that's right now. He still hasn't gone through all of the rehab and recovery. They could easily clear him to play next year. If the doctors determine he is unable to play ever, even before his rehab/recovery, I would sue them if i was the team. Peyton Manning was cleared to play football with a similar surgical procedure. Not that all injuries and recoveries are identical but this is far too soon to make that determination. Yeah, but Texas is also getting $9 million a year from insurance for him to not play. Right now it is $6 million to bury him, or $15 million to play him, with the uncertainty of what Fielder would look like post-neck surgery #2. My guess would be that Texas wants him to play a whole lot less than Fielder wants to play.

QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 09:52 AM) http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/so-you-want...e-carlos-gomez/ This guys is definitely going to be our CF next year. If absolutely nothing else, you know the guy is going to catch most everything hit to center field. That alone is a big help to a team that depends on its pitching.

Justin Morneau 2017 DH
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 07:51 AM) No they can't offer him one. Had to be here from day one. And if they could I don't see a team signing him with a draft pick attached nor Morneau rejecting a 1 year/17 mill offer. And there have been examples of guys who have waited til mid-season to sign so they didn't have a chance of being offered a QO. And even if they could offer him one, with his concussion and injury history, I don't think you would want to wrap up that kind of cash in him. You'll be able to get him at a fraction of that in the off-season.

Zack Burdi not coming to Chicago this season
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 10, 2016 -> 05:42 PM) I used to agree that wasting a 1st rounder on a reliever was bad business but then I saw this year's deadline. Teams are stupid. Did you see the haul received for Giles from Philly in the offseason? Even if out of the bullpen, if Burdi is awesome, he's a very valuable commodity. Not to mention what closers and even set up men are getting paid on the open market.

Construct A "Going For It" 2017 Roster
QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 10, 2016 -> 04:50 PM) If we signed Encarnacion for 4 for 80 I'd be happy to go for it next year. That is about half of the total dollars he is looking for from Toronto. I have to imagine someone would at least be willing to go 3/90, if not 4/120, even if they don't want to go to 5 years.

Carlos Gomez DFA'd
QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 10, 2016 -> 04:37 PM) He's end of 2017 I thought, not a FA after this year? His BR page shows only 2016 under his contracts section.

Carlos Gomez DFA'd
His defense alone would be a huge improvement over what we have to send out there now. With a $9m annual salary, he is due something around 2.5 to $3 million for the rest of the season. That said, I highly doubt we do add him, unless they want to test drive him to see if they want to chase him next year.

2016 Republican Thread
QUOTE (raBBit @ Aug 10, 2016 -> 01:00 PM) I thought Q meant kill the GOP forever, not in this election. Trump's not even a republican, never has been. Is Bush supposed to give an objective opinion after Trump raw boned his brother into a woefully expensive crying submission? That's the crazy thing. He was a very convincing Democrat until Obama came along. He had always given to their causes and candidates, including their current nominee for President.

David Robertson is a fantastic closer
QUOTE (captain54 @ Aug 10, 2016 -> 12:41 PM) Of course it was. The discussion is concerning Robertsons performance vs value. You switched it up completely and brought up an entirely different issue involving Sale and the torn up uni's and missing a couple of starts. This is hilarious. You guys are pretty forgiving when it comes to someone else not getting value for their $$. My guess is that if it was coming out of your pocket, or you were somehow accountable, you'd be taking a walk over to the dark side with all the irrational ranters, whiners, moaners and chronically unsatisfied Do you join hands and sing "Kumbaya" when you take your car in for a $5 k engine rebuild, and you break down not 20 minutes out of the shop, in rush hour on the Kennedy, bumper to bumper, in 95 degree temps? If you are anyone but Jerry Reinsdorf, this is a non sequitor.

2016 Democratic Thread
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 10, 2016 -> 10:55 AM) Assange has journalistic integrity now? Just about every time WikiLeaks does a reckless dump that gives out private info says otherwise. He's a political player with agendas of his own. It has been entertaining to see the opinions on him flip since the topic moved from the Iraq War to Hillary and the DNC.

David Robertson is a fantastic closer
QUOTE (captain54 @ Aug 10, 2016 -> 11:08 AM) that's not the point of the discussion…. Robertson make $300 K less, than the top paid closer in MLB.. so he's very near being the top paid closer in MLB He's tied with or a close second to # of blown saves Conversely, Britton from the O's makes half as much and has 0 blown saves… I have a problem with this.. and I can't tell whether you do as well, because you switched the topic of discussion.. You can't just write off every fan expression of displeasure as an irrational rant, or b****, or moan… the numbers are here in black and white that the Sox now have another problematic situation on their hands, to add to the myriad of problematic situations... It is one when the blown saves was a direct result of Chris Sale's behavior.

2016 Rio Olympics Thread
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 10, 2016 -> 10:59 AM) The production value NBC added to the whole thing was awesome too (the other day with the staredown, etc). Just awesome stuff. Phelp's is a beast. I hope he finishes out these olympics strong, but man, Ladecky is something else too. So is that Hungarian female swimmer from USC (total beastmode dominator). Loved the US girl taking out the roided Russian two nights ago too And women's gymnastics team, holy hell are they good. I can't think of a time where I ever saw a team make everything look so easy and dominant. It literally looked like they had the staples "easy" button. Then you see other teams go and realize oh, it isn't so easy. She is from Evansville IN, and goes to IU.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 10, 2016 -> 08:34 AM) It's not a voluntary retirement though, doctors won't clear him to play. He's "medically disabled". Yeah, he is not walking away, he is being forced to walk away medically.

David Robertson is a fantastic closer
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 10, 2016 -> 09:26 AM) And Sale cost himself two starts by going crazy pants on the team. Karma? And I think David Robertson blew one of those saves immediately after getting over worked because of the Sale meltdown.
