Republican 2012 Nomination Thread
QUOTE (kapkomet @ Feb 1, 2010 -> 09:38 PM) And Rick Perry is part of that WEAK GOP field. I am going to throw this name out there, and see what happens. Mitch Daniels has to be a favorite. He doesn't have any of the skeletons that all of the people who are commonly named have.

The schedule is out (a little late)
I'm looking forward to playing as many bottom feeders as possible...

Sox not adding a LH bat; looking at relief, Damon?
QUOTE (beck72 @ Feb 1, 2010 -> 08:22 PM) Sounds like Damon and Boras are so desperate to land a gig that they have to go out begging like this to Detroit. Exactly. He totally misplayed this one... It is almost like he is left field already.

Joe Mauer Signs for 10 years?
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 1, 2010 -> 04:48 PM) The Twins probably know his medical reports better than anyone. No one would begrudge them anything if they lost him to a huge bid from the Yankees. If they're signing him now, I'll bet they believe he'll endure. They also know that they can flush their fan base good-bye if they lose either one of these guys right after moving into a brand new stadium.

Financial News
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 1, 2010 -> 03:56 PM) I'm sure they happily tolerate budget cuts to their schools to pay for it. If it means the difference between living in a house and on the streets, I am sure they won't mind...

Is it Mathematically Impossible
QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Feb 1, 2010 -> 02:29 PM) And I am shocked by the negative campaigns against unions. I don't get it either. Without them, we'd be a third world country. Don't worry about it. No one really saids much of anything about them. You can't or you get a lynch mob of SEIU at your front door. I guess people forgot who actually employs union employees.

Financial News
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 1, 2010 -> 11:44 AM) Run-down of the White House budget proposal they sent to Congress today. Glad to see they are removing oil and gas subsidies. I am sure people who can't afford it will love to see their gas prices and utilities go up in price.

Is it Mathematically Impossible
QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Feb 1, 2010 -> 12:39 PM) ive been shocked by peoples negative attitudes towards unions as a whole over the past 10 years. i dont get it, at all. And I am shocked by the negative campaigns against corporations. I don't get it either. Without them, we'd be a third world country.

Is it Mathematically Impossible
Honestly I am more upset at the complete neglect of union influence while everyone cries about corporate influence. The complete misrepresentations of the issue are crap, yet no surprise at all.

Is it Mathematically Impossible
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 1, 2010 -> 10:47 AM) Labor unions consist of hard working people. People like my parents. I have a little more sympathy for hard working middle class people over aristocratic bankers. Banks are full of hard working people too. Of course you see them through a biased prism that all of them are bad, instead of recognizing the separation between management and employees that exist there as well. Remarkably, if you take your average Ford workers, and your guy working at the bank down the street, the union guy is going to be getting paid tons more.

Is it Mathematically Impossible
What is intersting about that is the quiet influence that unions have had on elections for decades, and I don't recall any outrage here in these parts.... http://www.aier.org/research/briefs/1550-o...d-union-support

QUOTE (Cknolls @ Feb 1, 2010 -> 10:32 AM) Did they change from 2007 to now when Tsongas was seated in 2 days? I know it a representatives race, but the same premise. Kennedy tried many times to have the rules changed to fit what he perceived as being the best way to get a Democrat elected in MASS.

what would Branyan command?
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 31, 2010 -> 09:36 PM) Well, he did post an OPS about .100 points higher than Dye last year...obviously JD has the pedigree, but the "what have you done for me lately" attitude usually prevails in the MLB... And Branyan has a bad back on top of it all. I can't see Rus Branyan getting as much money as Vlad.

Official 2009-2010 NBA Thread
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 1, 2010 -> 01:44 AM) ESPN's Daily Dime The prospect of acquiring Allen intrigues me. I wouldn't include Kirk, but do you think the Celtics would take Salmons/James/Thomas? Allen would essentially be the 6th man, but he could still score for the Bulls, which they need. But then, you become thin at PF. So here's my crazy 3 way trade proposal (yes, I checked in the Trade Machine to see if it works...don't judge me) Bulls Get: Ray Allen, Amar'e Stoudemire Celtics Get: John Salmons, Tyrus Thomas, Jerome James, Bulls 2nd Round Pick Suns Get: Luol Deng, Glen Davis, Celtics 2nd Round Pick The Bulls get 2 legitimate scoring threats, playing time for James Johnson, and ungodly amounts of cap space in 2010. The Celtics would get that rebounder they need + defense as stated above, as well as a SG to replace some of Allen's production. The Suns get a good PF as well as a SF to replace Grant Hill, and Phoenix has eyed Deng in the past. Then, come summer time, if Amar'e opts out, sign Bosh and Gay/Manu. If Amar'e opts in and Bosh looks to be leaving, try a Power Forward Sign-and-Trade swap using picks. If you enough room left over, sign Brad Miller as the backup center. I like him as Noah/Taj/Johnsons tutor, plus, he can still get assists and shoot from time to time. Also, resigning Pargo wouldn't be crazy. Use the draft pick on a shooting guard (Lance Stephenson from Cincy?) then you have a roster that looks like PG: Rose - Pargo SG: Hinrich - Stephenson SF: Gay - Johnson PF: Bosh - Gibson - Aşık (if he comes State side by then) C: Noah - Miller I'd live with it. Ray Allens shooting would be a huge add on for the Bulls.

The Republican Thread
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Feb 1, 2010 -> 07:31 AM) Look, I don't care who in his administration said it, he USED that information to state his case for stimulus concerns, it was wrong, and things are even worse for wear despite the fact that they claim they're saving jobs and focusing on saving jobs. It's safe to say that he, and his administration, have no idea what they're doing right now...they're guessing, and thus far, have guessed wrong. And don't launch into a tirade of "what if's", because there is no way to know. 8% is 8% is 8% with or without stimulus or bank saving tarp loans. To the people in that "8% unemployment" (it's actually more like 20% counting the people who have given up looking for jobs), the system has already collapsed on them. Too bad it's way higher than 8% now...and staying that way for a while. When you guys lose your jobs let's see if you vote for him again...that'll be the true test. Of course, you won't...because when reality hits home, it hurts. When reality is on the news, it's not so bad. It's more likely that they were using the best of the best of the best information, and just hoping that the name brand of Obama convinced people that things would be OK.
