  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 7, 2010 -> 01:28 PM) The big problem with D2 is that D1 still made a sacrifice, switching agents away from Boras, when we drafted D2. Thus, trading D2 could easily have a huge impact on the ability of the team to hold onto D1. And we still have no idea what they might have said behind the scenes as well. Until Danks signs long term, I don't care what he thinks. He hasn't shown any signs since that point that he wants to be here long term, so I am not to concerned about trading his little brother if it brings us back a superstar.
  2. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Feb 7, 2010 -> 05:26 PM) So, we don't. And we get a comp pick. Not seeing the downside. Besides missing out on a number one draft pick for a year, you mean.
  3. QUOTE (danman31 @ Feb 7, 2010 -> 03:53 PM) Anyone who pays that would be a fool. As good of a prospect as this guy may seem, he's not as advanced as Strasburg is/was and isn't a pitcher. He'll get above average #1 money, but I don't think a team is going to give him into the stratosphere unless he hits .500 in juco. That doesn't stop them from trying to force a team into doing it.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 7, 2010 -> 01:25 PM) You're 100% right. And also I think it's 100% accurate to also say that Tyrus Thomas never got over being basketball retarded with a terrible attitude/work ethic because the coaches preferred benching him to teaching him anything. Or after three coaches have benched him in three years, most likely, he is unteachable.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 7, 2010 -> 02:04 PM) That is a NICE suit on Manning. Suit up Peyton Manning.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 7, 2010 -> 02:35 PM) Subaru doesn't have an entire broadcast and media empire devoted to selling their product. MSNBC and CNN does give Obama a big advantage.
  7. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 7, 2010 -> 02:19 PM) and guess what the end result of bumping the dividend tax from 15% to 39% will be? Riskier, lower and non-yield stocks will come into greater favor, and value picks tank. We reward risker firms - which is the opposite of what ObamaCo has said they wanted to do. Stupid. But that is a stupid reason for stocks to be worth less because Obama said it!
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 7, 2010 -> 11:39 AM) Unless the President makes a speech. Congrats. You have become Kap.
  9. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Feb 6, 2010 -> 11:05 PM) If Harper slips, do the Sox draft him? Keep in mind we are talking about at least Stausburg money.
  10. QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 7, 2010 -> 10:37 AM) And like I said, if these people are affecting money and changing the market because of a speech, than they are irrational actors lol. You are pretty much calling the entire country irrational then, because the valuations of companies are set based on order flow that comes to the marketplace. I guess we are back to the idea of not trusting people to make their own decisions.
  11. QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 6, 2010 -> 10:49 PM) You can't have it any way you like it. You can't criticize obama when the the market tanks and claim it was because of his policies and also claim that the market doesn't work off his policies. QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 6, 2010 -> 10:55 PM) It'd be easier to accept ss2k5's statement if numerous statements were not made in this thread of "ohp markets tanked moments after obamas stimulus speech heheheheheeh" "oooop markets went down as soon as the day opened after his health care speech hehehehehehehe" all over this thread. And for like the 78th time... THOSE THINGS ARE NOT MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE. You guys have no idea what you are talking about. Let me put it into terms the left wing can understand. You are trying to make the moral equivalency of "Hey we got two feet of snow today, so global warming doesn't exist.", actually true.
  12. Honestly I am amazed at how few big snowfalls Chicago has actually gotten. It is amazing how different it is on the other side of the lake. We have had a snowfall this winter that is bigger than the 1967 fall, and it isn't unusual. http://www.crh.noaa.gov/lot/winter/chi_sno_hist.php
  13. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Feb 6, 2010 -> 07:50 PM) If the Knicks offered a future 1st and the expiring contract of Duhon for TT, would you take that? I'd trade Thomas for anything that did not add more future payroll at this point. He needs to go.
  14. Yep. Completely missing the point.
  15. QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 6, 2010 -> 10:14 PM) i think he's pointing out that either you have irrational actors or you are pointing to things that aren't proper indications for presidential approval. Who ever said they were indicators of Presidential approval? Like I said, you guys are trying to turn this into something it is not. That is the whole problem here. There are a few people here who want to turn this into something hyperpartisan, and then cry about it being partisan. This isn't that complex and conspiratorial, no matter what you all think.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 6, 2010 -> 07:11 PM) 9 straight months of the market going up, and not once do you guys point out a connection between the Pres. making a speech, and the moment it starts going down again and the market, it's immediately "Look how it started going down after Obama talked!" Frankly, so what. Are you out there pointing out everytime something bad happens for Obama, or good for the GOP? Get off of your high horse.
  17. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Feb 1, 2010 -> 10:26 PM) Depends on what you are looking for in a "Canadian beer". For my money, I haven't tried anything that touches Unibroue which produces world-class Belgian style beers. That said, I have a soft spot in my heart (holdover from mis-spent youth) for a few of the more traditional Canadian lagers and "cream ales" — most of which are themselves actually over-sweet and over-carbonated lagers. Red Cap, O'Keefe, McAuslin (several), Robin Hood Cream Ale, and yes, the venerable Labatt 50 were college-day favorites because thay actually had a bit of character to them. There's a bunch of Canadian craft micros and brewpubs I'm dying to try and haven't yet been able to, so obviously there are huge gaps in my Canadian craft beer experience. ETA: And how did I miss the most important Canadian Brewery of all?? Hoser.
  18. QUOTE (knightni @ Feb 6, 2010 -> 03:53 PM) When it comes to snow, Chicago has nothing on the areas east of Lake Michigan. Just ask Ss2k5. QFT. Chicago gets some snow. We get Lake Effect.
  19. Tyrus Thomas has been suspended for conduct determental to the team for the Bulls next game against Miami. Awesome.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 6, 2010 -> 05:03 PM) "Giving all money to Wall Street is not always good" = a difficult to understand argument. For some reason you have taken the fact that a person's words can instantaneously move the market, and tried to turn it into some sort of a partisan statement. Because it has happened adversely to Obama on multiple occasions, of course that means it is some sort of Republican conspiracy to discredit him, and therefore it has to be false. The idea that you seem to have adopted as the logic to discredit it, is that because the markets move up on another day, week, month, or whatever period of time can seemingly go against that, it therefore makes the idea of instant market reactions false. On that point, you and anyone else who thinks that way, could not be more wrong. I have experienced the very phenomenon on many different occasions, both good and bad, with many different people. Just because they point to specific people in good or bad light when trended together doesn't mean it isn't true. In Obama's case it means he likes to get in front of TV cameras and stay stuff that is easily taken as anti-market more often than other people who are historically paid attention to by the markets. Trying to be Bill Clinton and turn this into yet another Vast Right Wing Conspiracy completely misses the point of reality here.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 6, 2010 -> 05:00 PM) Usually you guys get quite frustrated when I back up my statements, so I figured to go with your more classic "Ad hominem" style of posting. Except here you haven't really understood your own statements, so it makes a big difference here. You have been trying to make arguments that make no sense.
  22. QUOTE (knightni @ Feb 6, 2010 -> 03:33 PM) Why would he want to go to Boston? His oppo HRs would turn into doubles. Winning World Series's sucks.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 6, 2010 -> 03:13 PM) Anything that might make Wall Street look bad or the President look good. Man I don't know if I can disprove such detailed evidence...
  24. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 6, 2010 -> 11:52 AM) Pale hose forum? All other teams fans would have to pay, meaning it affects Sox fans.
  25. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 6, 2010 -> 11:36 AM) And yet you're only willing to accept specific things as market-movers when they make your side feel correct. And you're also still under the illusion that what is good for the stock market is good for the country 100% of the time. And what specific things I am leaving out?
