Every single time this thread comes up all I can think of is how literally everyone of substance who had shown success before just absolutely cratered once Drunk Grandpa showed up. It was uncanny and 100% predictable.

You are panicking over a bullpen in February, a week before pitchers and catchers have even reported to camp. Call the folks at Guinness, as I think we have a new world's record.

Bobby Witt Jr signs 11Y/$288M extension with KC

Part of me is really annoyed by this, the other part just thinks that even if we did sign a nine figure deal, it would just be awful like our eight figure deals... just bigger. -

There are guys who are legitimately good and introspective writers who have amazing insight into what is going on. Then there are those who just stand on a virtual street corner and scream about the end of the world like a revelations preacher. Jim and James belong in the first group. I will stop there. -
2023-24 NFL Season Thread
southsider2k5 replied to CentralChamps21's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
This was the NBCSports Chicago mock from the the other day. This is one hell of a haul. the #2 pick, 2024 2nd, 2025 1st, and 2026 1st with some other window dressing would set this team up insanely well. -

This. I don't think I would ever use the word "surplus", but they have acquired a lot of pitching with these recent deals who are all in about the same time arrival frame. Picking the guy who you think you could most afford to lose to shore up a position which you have absolutely nothing in does make some sense if you are trying to push guys into this window. -

Kind of a depth for depth move on both parts. AZ is LOADED with OFs. With all of the fall trades we brought in SP prospects. Balances out the roster and system a bit. -

Orioles Acquire Corbin Burnes for Ortiz/Hall/34th Pick
southsider2k5 replied to DirtySox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If Ortiz is the centerpiece, good for Getz. -
This is actually the reason that many star players make terrible coaches. They can function with flawed techniques because their natural ability is just that much greater than anyone else. In Franks case, he was one of the insanely few people in baseball history who had 500 homer power with a gap to gap approach, though as he aged, he did start to sell out for power, and his other numbers suffered.
