  1. From a pressure standpoint, it might actually be a lot better. There is nothing like the attention that a player draws if they are on a New York City professional team. They still have a large sports media following, and they actively are looking for things to report that aren't exactly what the franchises are feeding them. The fans are loud and engaged as well, and will eat a player for lunch if they give them a reason to do so. There isn't much else like it in American sports. The Sox are the exact opposite of that right now. Even our failures are pretty quietly coddled and protected by our sports media. A guy like Lopez would have the chance to fly under the radar and quietly be able to reset himself at low points. I know the losing would suck, but he also wouldn't feel like a target here.
  2. I don't remember the same level of hype for Pallette, but I do believe there was a good first round grade on him pre-TJS.
  3. When it comes to oddball situations, teams are typically asked by their local media and generally answered if someone is going to be on a non-standard situation for innings in a season.
  4. This is a spectacular turn of phrase and I am here for it.
  5. That's quite literally the point.
  6. I have heard worse ideas. Some guys aren't made for the NY spotlight. I know it isn't conventional, but I would be interested in the for free, or at least a minimal low level trade piece similar to the Julks deal.
  7. They dumped him to even out salary in that deal. Somehow between when they scouted the guy in Asia, and when he got here, he went from deceptive in the mid 90s to low 90s and wasn't fooling anyone.
  8. I know Grant Taylor had high first round potential if he had been healthy and pitched like was hoped.
  9. Does this surprise anyone? It's part for the course in 2024.
  10. If it were just Vaughn I would be less scared, but seeing Torkelson on the same road makes it more scary.
  11. Well hopefully people learn something.
  12. If he truly won't change, it means they don't want him to change.
  13. And even that 70 innings is appreciably higher than what Crochet has done.
  14. He also seems to really like WSMIke, which probably is more telling as to who he is than anything.
  15. The account is still public, but I am pretty sure that isn't him. It might be someone close to him, but one of the racial posts doesn't make sense. Plus this.
  16. The numbers back this up. His line against him is .172/.238/.220/.458, 5.3 hits/9, 0.3 HR/9. That is pretty absurd. AA Guys are hitting like Andrew Benitendi against Drew Thorpe right now. Sure it was better when he was putting up 12 K/9, but it is crazy to see that he hard contact is actually dropping as his contact rates have increased.
  17. At least before he couldn't see his BA on the scoreboard.
  18. Highlights for those of us without subs?
  19. For the record one of the things held against Pedro is that the Royals passes on hiring him twice. The Sox have passed on Jirschelle at least twice now. Three times if you count Ricky's hire.
  20. If your property taxes go up it means your house is worth more. When the markets go in the tank, buy like crazy for the inevitable rally.
  21. They are trying to thread the needle like they did with Sale and Quintana in their rookie seasons. Hopefully it happens.
  22. Well, it's true, but not for the reasons they want it to be.
  23. Just want to highlight this absurdity.
  24. The name of your sex tape... Just your usual awesomeness.
