  1. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 8, 2009 -> 06:47 AM) Executives. Labor at least adds value somewhat in line with wages, generally. Kap, think carefully about net economic impact on the company, not just pure dollars. Especially because in many of these cases, labor can be replaced by someone making pennies an hour, and nothing would change. It is totally labor.
  2. I don't like Kid Rock that much.
  3. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 7, 2009 -> 09:52 PM) You can make the same argument multiplied by 1,000 for executives vs. most of the entire world, so that's a dead end for you. They're criticized when made in regards to labor because we're not talking about a very small number of people being in the 99.999 percentile of wealthiest human beings to ever live while offering questionable value compared to compensation. Yet which group is costing companies the most amount of money?
  4. To make the money work, he would have to include either Buehrle or Peavy.
  5. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 7, 2009 -> 07:29 PM) My predictions looked smart...Harbaugh has been contacted about the ND job. I think he'd be a tremendous hire. Maybe not a big name to those not familiar with the Pac 10, but he's done a hell of a job at Stanford and is going to do some pretty big things. He's not Meyer or Stoops, but I think he's excellent and could actually be a better get than Kelly. Plus, having his pro connections should be helpful. A winning Stanford coach who was supposed to revive ND... haven't I heard that one before?
  6. Now that is very apt with another pathetic Brando sighting.
  7. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 7, 2009 -> 09:25 PM) How many people would be willing and capable to do the same job for less than tens of millions of dollars? The "best and brightest" f***ed up the world's financial system. I'm at a loss for why we should pay them obscene amounts of money to fix what they broke. "Every CEO gets paid tens/ hundreds of millions!" is no better than "but the other kids are doing it!" I refuse to believe that companies get a net financial benefit when they pay CEO's the way they do,. They're rewarded with billions for taking big risks that pay off or they're rewarded with millions for failing miserably. The entire system is based on perverse incentives. That is essentially the argument. Keep in mind that minimum wage in the United States is an obscene amount to most of the entire world. You can make the same arguments for say unionized labor all over the country. How many people out there would support changing the entire American labor structure to work for minimum wage or less? The funny thing the same things are being said here, which are criticized when made in regards to labor.
  8. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 7, 2009 -> 08:56 PM) Really though, how can anyone be expected to work for $500k? What is this, some third world country? Let me put it this way. How many of you would be willing to work for a fraction, namely about 5% of what your peers were getting paid? And how many of you would be willing to take on a massive rebuilding project, for nothing extra, to do it?
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 7, 2009 -> 04:36 PM) I honestly believe that if Danks got time in the majors next year, it would be a huge mistake. Note this date, but I agree.
  10. Right decision making is hard work. What Would Elmo Do?
  11. QUOTE (Bern Danstein @ Dec 7, 2009 -> 04:00 PM) Um, I don't do obsession. Takes a few minutes. A few posts here and there about my favorite team.... who could that possibly hurt? Now if only Sox would get Adrian Gonzalez.... the happy quotient would go up for everybody, no? HA! You have something like 100 different registrations, over the past seven years. That means you had to take the time to create a different email account and address for each time you re-registered, not to mention the time put in each time to find a new IP to post from. If you don't think it is an obsession, I do not think you know what that word means.
  12. Um, do you still watch a lot of Sesame Street?
  13. WHy not wait for someone else to cover X for you?
  14. Alcohol is all that really matters.
  15. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 7, 2009 -> 02:33 PM) Who else would it be? De Aza? Danks? Viciedo? We only have 2 starting outfielders right now. Which is why they are still looking for a guy who can play the OF and lead off.
  16. Can Jim drink to that? YES HE CAN!!!
  17. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 7, 2009 -> 12:54 PM) No, the suggestion I am making is firing a good bulk of the Nationals' roster (since we are, by nature, talking about utter failure here), and replacing them with the bext minor leaguers and major leaguers they can find, in their system OR others. And you are damn right they would do better. Another analogy that works here, is Katrina. In both cases, some disaster occurs, that is partly caused by leadership failures within core companies or agencies, but also partly systemic (financial system, or environmental). Now, in a disaster like that, do you want the rebuilding done by the same people who caused the situation in the first place? No, you want new thoughts and ideas. You want the guy who leads the Army Corps of Engineers (or the company in question) to come into your office... see if they have a plan and will execute it within the difficult parameters set (pay, resources)... if they can't, you fire them, and get the next best guy available, and task them with the same thing. So, if you you were one of the people rebuilding in NO after Katrina, you'd have no problem with the 26th, or the 51st ranking member of the Army Corp of Engineers coming to tell you about the plans, because the top ones all quit?
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 7, 2009 -> 02:28 PM) If people follow Reifort on Facebook, he is throwing up all of his good quotes. and both he and Gonzales are throwing stuff up on Twitter, such as this...
  19. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 7, 2009 -> 02:16 PM) apparently Ozzie Guillen is talking right now and will talk until 2:30 CT. And then the quotes will be coming up. Not sure it's going to be anything ground breaking, but you never know. If people follow Reifort on Facebook, he is throwing up all of his good quotes.
  20. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 7, 2009 -> 01:14 PM) Again, he was great for that time. And lol@you would like to see a pitcher today win 40 games or throw 400 innings. I'd like to see Ed Walsh in today's game attempting to keep his ERA below 10. Think about. There was no curveball, no change up, no splitter, no slider etc.
  21. I wonder what the deal looks like, but so far, yeah! Weaken Detroit!
  22. Funny guy that Benny Button.
