  1. We did not pick a player, despite having open roster spots.
  2. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Dec 9, 2009 -> 11:16 PM) Wow. When the hell did Buff get fast? No joke, two things the guy has never been able to do are skate and stick-handle.
  3. Oh my, you should try his chocolate balls!
  4. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Dec 9, 2009 -> 08:21 PM) We tend to leave it that way as it is pretty popular. That being said, we don't actively try and compress and merge single subject threads like that unless it really makes sense. If you have a question or anything like that, start a new thread. The requests to have stuff bunched together have always run MUCH higher than the requests to have multiple threads. That is why we did the big threads in the first place, because of Soxtalk poster requests.
  5. QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 10, 2009 -> 12:47 AM) I'm legally blind without glasses. I couldn't even tell you that there was a chart there without my glasses on. Me too. The term legally blind really means nothing anymore, as pretty much all people in this state can be corrected with minimal effort.
  6. QUOTE (beck72 @ Dec 10, 2009 -> 05:47 AM) FWIW, Bruce Levine says the sox and cubs have been the most aggressive with Putz, and that the sox have offered him a contract. Says base could be $2.5 mill. and with incentives up to $6, $7 mill. If true, sounds like a fair deal, with Brandon Lyon getting a 3 yr $15 mill. deal. Better not to be saddled with extra years than to pay out more if Putz meets the incentives. http://espn.go.com/chicago/columns/blog?name=levine Again the Sox usually go with a team option when it comes to contracts. If anything it would be a mutual option with a buyout.
  7. Not a big surprise, but an interesting idea for the Sox, who could use a lefty power bat, and cheap.
  8. Then why are we pretending that the federal government does exactly this when it comes in to regulate these sectors?
  9. Great effort by Buff for the extra point. 6 games, 10 goals now since the SJ blow out.
  10. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 9, 2009 -> 08:26 PM) The redeeming quality might be getting rid of him. I hope he makes like Ed and is kicked out, because he's awful. Lucy is still annoying, but I'm starting to adapt to her. Eh, it might not be soon enough to keep me watching. The show is horrible on its own merits, at least so far.
  11. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Dec 9, 2009 -> 08:21 PM) Even then I don't think he will be a remotely likable character. He isn't remotely funny which is the biggest problem with the character since he is clearly just supposed to be there for comic relief. I totally agree with that. You can like The Todd, because he is totally funny. This guy is just your usual dopey spoiled frat-boy.
  12. Rosenthal reporting that the Astros are closing in on Lindstrom.
  13. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 9, 2009 -> 06:56 PM) I understand you need an antagonist in shows to make them interesting, but do they have to be as annoying as Cole? He just doesn't do anything except suck. The security guards could be funny though, in a janitor sort of way (though they will never be the janitor) Eventually he has to acquire some redeeming quality. Even as big of jerks as Cox and Kelso are, they have things about them to like.
  14. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 9, 2009 -> 07:59 PM) What are the odds of a talented but raw arm like Santos going through waivers untouched? I am guessing pretty slim if the Sox were willing to put him on the 40 man roster.
  15. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 9, 2009 -> 07:08 PM) I'll call out one of them. Minneapolis - 390,131 PLUS St. Paul - 287,151 = 677,282 I would say that is big enough, and that is just the city sizes Not to mention that some of the biggest failures of organizations in MLB are on that list.
  16. QUOTE (chunk23 @ Dec 9, 2009 -> 06:57 PM) I find it really interesting how KW's FA moves are becoming so public. It seems everyone knows that he pursuing Putz and Matsui and expect it to happen, which is contrary to his historical trend. Yet we have no clue what will happen in the OF. The players and agents have a vested interest in creating competition for their services. It is not a big surprise that stuff leaks out.
  17. Neither Pods, nor Crisp, should make more than a few million dollars for a one year deal, period. Anything more is just stupid.
  18. I wonder what kind of money the guy is looking at? I imagine, knowing the Sox, we are talking about a low first year salary, maybe some incentives, and a team option for '11?
  19. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Dec 9, 2009 -> 05:28 PM) I just had to make this announcement in case we lose sight of things watching other teams pull deals off. We all need to stay focused I know and remember we have until April 2010 to make big moves and keep up with the contenders. We get antsy when we see other teams puling off major trades and we wait. Maybe the Rule V draft on Thursday will change things for us? Yeah right! Someone tweeted today that Kenny doesn't expect us to make a Rule V pick this year.
  20. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 9, 2009 -> 05:29 PM) The Rangers signed Rich Harden to a 1 year, $7.5M deal with an $11.5M team option for 2011. Wow. That is a lot of money from a guy who there is a better chance at 20 starts than 30 actually happening.
  21. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 9, 2009 -> 05:35 PM) Indeed. And I didn't know Santos had this kinda velocity. A curve that tops out at 87MPH? Impressive. I have zero expectations that he'll ever pan out to be anything. But if he does, gravy. For a guy that is as behind the learning curve I would guess consistency and nagging type injuries would be the biggest issues. He is using muscles and tendons he hasn't really used in a long time, not to mention doing things to his body that it isn't used to. On top of that, he doesn't have the hundreds, maybe a thousand innings of "practice" that his peers do at this point.
  22. Washing Waldo Woo is probably taboo in today's world.
  23. That isn't an uncommon experience. For all of the things hiring managers want, they don't seem to believe in reciprocity.
