  1. QUOTE (Big Daddy Kool @ Dec 2, 2009 -> 12:06 PM) From MLB Rumors: •GM Kenny Williams is not shopping closer Bobby Jenks and has not had any offseason trade talks about him. However, Williams will listen at the Winter Meetings. •Williams said he never heard of last month's rumor about three-way trade talks for Adrian Gonzalez involving the White Sox, Padres, and Angels. The rumor came from a source with no track record, and was quickly shot down, so it was never published on MLBTR. That doesn't mean we should rule out the possiblity of the White Sox being interest in Gonzalez, though. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2009/12/whit...pierzynski.html In other words, there is still a possibility in there somewhere, and Kenny wants to keep everyone away from the story.
  2. QUOTE (lostfan @ Dec 2, 2009 -> 12:10 PM) Well I'm sure not ALL of them are young guys but the friend used to work over at Treasury and had to deal with his staff all the time. I lol'd when he told me that. It just sounds so bold. All I ask, is if you ever get into Congress, I want to be your Chief of Staff.
  3. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Dec 2, 2009 -> 12:05 PM) Not entirely true. But probably pretty accurate. He left out the M and M's...

  6. And with no incentives to stick around and try to make things work... bye, bye GM. yup, the auto industry that is too big to fail, is now the CEO kiss of death. http://www.businessweek.com/bwdaily/dnflas...9122_757949.htm
  7. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Dec 2, 2009 -> 10:46 AM) Pew did a phone survey asking people to answer twelve questions about current events. Nearly two-thirds of those surveyed got 6 or less correct out of 12. How did you do? http://pewresearch.org/politicalquiz/
  8. QUOTE (yoyozuna @ Dec 2, 2009 -> 10:44 AM) I wish it wasn't true but there is a way to explain it. PED cycles. In most cases they are steps ahead of the testing. JDs bug drop in the second half? Not to rain on anyone's parade but it is part of the game. Dye's second half drop was the same thing he did a few years back when the trade rumors of him going to Boston happened. He can't handle not having his play situation cut and dry. Unless there is an injury that we don't know about, it makes more sense to me.
  9. QUOTE (Cknolls @ Dec 2, 2009 -> 10:06 AM) http://corner.nationalreview.com/post/?q=Y...WM5OGU5OTg1MDA= Stay classy, Matthews! He'd better watch it. With all of that hate speech about the military he is going to inspire some wakko's to start shooting at military people...
  10. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Dec 2, 2009 -> 09:43 AM) He played a full AA season at 3B. His mechanics were addressed almost a year ago when he prepped for ST. There are no variances in arm slot for 3B like there is across the field at 2B. The point is, if he maintained his workouts he wouldn't have had that problem. Shutting Viciedo down in AZ was not taken lightly. The AFL was considered an important measure of his first year progress after committing a critical $10M to him last offseason. That $10M could be used to sign a key FA these days. The Sox as an organization are not standing for these conditioning issues anymore as has been widely reported recently and they shouldn't. I like that the team is prioritizing defense and conditioning this year. Those are two "secondary concerns" that hurt the team in 2009. This stuff doesn't have to happen right away. Also realize he played more games this year than he ever has played, with new mechanics.
  11. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Dec 2, 2009 -> 09:28 AM) In baseball, elbow inflammation is not an injury. It's a symptom of poor mechanics and poor conditioning. No, it's not always. It could also be a correction of mechanics, putting him into an arm slot he hasn't used before. Anytime you start using new muscles and tendons, you risk injuries.
  12. Let's just get this out of the way...

  14. ANother thing you will catch is that they try to negotiate everything as a package, and will give you a per month payment. Do NOT negotiate like that. Make them give you the cash price, the whole time.
  15. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Dec 1, 2009 -> 11:54 PM) That was the definition of a hook. And it was the definition of a dive. It either should have been no call, or off-setting minors.
  16. QUOTE (The Critic @ Dec 1, 2009 -> 11:11 PM) I don't think he was taunting the Hawks bench. I think he was b****ing at his own guys to get a damn goal for him. I heard on Versus that he took heat from the coach after letting in 3-for-3 the last time he was in a shootout, so I think he was gesturing as if to say "I'm making the saves, score a god-damned goal". If you noticed, he didn't acknowledge his teammates patting him on the back after his temper tantrum by the bench. I think he was pissed at them for not getting him the win. If he was b****ing at his guys, he needs a quick trip to the minors for the show he put on. He was showing up his teammates in front of the other team and a national audience. I'd rather see him taunting the team than showing up his own guys.
  17. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 1, 2009 -> 11:29 PM) So in the end only 10 Type A free agents were offered arbitration: Marco Scutaro Rafael Betancourt Jose Valverde Mike Gonzalez Rafael Soriano Matt Holliday Jason Bay Billy Wagner Chone Figgins John Lackey And 13 Type B free agents: Ivan Rodriguez Rod Barajas Gregg Zaun Adrian Beltre Mark DeRosa Marlon Byrd Justin Duchscherer Carl Pavano Jason Marquis Joel Pineiro Brian Shouse Fernando Rodney Brandon Lyon They have until December 7th to decide whether or not to accept the offer of arbitration. If they decline and are signed by another club all Type A free agents will net their original club 2 draft picks, 1 being a 1st round (unless he's signed by a team with a top 16 pick then the former club will receive a 2nd round pick as compensation) and the other being a compensator pick between rounds 1 and 2. A type B free agent will net their former club a comp pick between rounds 1 and 2. I predict this is the group of FAs that could still be on the sidelines as we enter February.
  18. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Dec 1, 2009 -> 06:08 PM) Morel will be in Charlotte by mid-season. Viciedo is a future 1B/DH. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Dec 1, 2009 -> 10:25 PM) I live in Scottsdale, AZ part time and I've seen both play several times in Oct/Nov this year in the AFL. So it what, five or six games, you have seen enough of two minor leaguers that you can project their minor league arc AND their major league futures? Quit your day job, and go into baseball.
  19. Wouldn't this be the ultimate definition of "sell high"? With the sporadic nature of relievers, is a better bet that he comes back in form, or that he has an off year?
  20. QUOTE (danman31 @ Dec 1, 2009 -> 10:38 PM) Yeah, Drew has some potential. I love Denise so it's big that she's getting a bigger role. It would be nice if they brought back Jordan for some episodes. She's a good character and it looks like they will need the help in the short run. I didn't care for the first episode, but the 2nd one was pretty solid. You couldn't build a show around Jordan, but she is a spectacular secondary character. As long as they keep it that way, it will be fine.
  21. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Dec 1, 2009 -> 11:56 AM) Suck the year before so we get a high pick? Pretty much. It is a lot easier to draft stars at #8, than it is in the 20's.
  22. If you don't offer someone arbitration, I thought you couldn't sign them until something like May 1st... Is that wrong?
  23. Martin Havlat can kiss my ass by the way.
  24. QUOTE (GO CHI SOX! @ Dec 1, 2009 -> 08:48 PM) This is great news! Now if the Blackhawks win I can go to sleep happy today. Nighty, night.
  25. QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Dec 1, 2009 -> 09:52 PM) If you go 9/11 as a goalie in a shootout you can talk a little trash. Especially when Ladd loses the f***ing puck in the corner before crossing the blueline. I actually think the BlueJackets outplayed us in this game, they were more physical team. Despite giving up a softie, Huet was the difference in this game. Wow, feels weird to say that, my Huet hate is softening for the time being. But not as much as when you go 10/11 Anyways, yeah I wasn't really impressed with the effort tonight. For whatever reason, there is just something about the BJ's that the Hawks have problems with.
