Golf A Sport?
QUOTE (T R U @ Nov 29, 2009 -> 09:29 PM) Not many, but that doesn't make them more of an athlete.. I don't particularly consider being able to run for long distances being "athletic" Most people use broad terms of athlete and sport when talking about stuff like this.. I hate that, gymnastics and swimming aren't sports to me.. I don't consider them athletes.. same for running etc. ESPN pisses me off so much when they say Tiger Woods is the best athlete in the world.. but like I said, there are broad definitions for it.. I am on the other side.. So what exactly does it take to be a sport? Young and Strong?

Barry Bonds
Even if you get past the baggage of Bonds, the guy is going to be 45, not able to cheat, and out of baseball for a full season if he were to come back again. Its just not worth it.

Golf A Sport?
QUOTE (T R U @ Nov 29, 2009 -> 08:34 PM) Uh yes.. Ive already made my case, some people are going to think certain things are sports.. others aren't.. my opinion isn't going to change on that and neither are yours, no big deal.. What percentage of the population of even professional athletes do you think could run 26.2 miles?

Nice Santos Article
According to the Trib today, BA rated Santos as the second best fastball in the minors, behind only Strausburg.

The Republican Thread
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Nov 25, 2009 -> 08:37 AM) Quoted for truth. I 100% agree. They're continuing to play the same game as always -- they show you something expensive with their left hand and hide something just as expensive with their right. Right now we're blaming our nations budget woes on health care and wars, because it's convenient and fresh in the medias spotlight, and mark my words, even if we fix health care 100%, flawlessly, the budget woes will continue on almost every level because everything they saved will simply get wasted on other over budget programs. I'd actually like to see a list of under budget government programs. I bet there are none. It won't ever happen. It's just easier to borrow and leave it up to the next guy.

Obama's Approval is Back Above 50%
QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Nov 29, 2009 -> 05:51 PM) I wonder if Drudge will run a headline with this news. Somehow I doubt it. 8 days total south of the 50% line. Currently at 51-41% in the Gallup Daily Poll. Hmmm, I wonder what happened to the daily Soxtalk tracking poll we used to have about 20 points ago...

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Nov 29, 2009 -> 12:50 AM) Almost a huge brawl at the end of the USC-UCLA game. USC was taking knees up 14 with under a minute to go but UCLA was still calling timeouts. So on 3rd down USC ran a play action pass and scored a TD and then celebrated pretty extensively on their sideline. The UCLA started heading towards the USC sideline and got over half way there before they were stopped. UCLA totally asked for it. If they want to act like the game is still in play by calling TOs, they need to respect USC doing the same thing and going for a score.

AGon discussion, et. al.
QUOTE (BaseballNick @ Nov 29, 2009 -> 04:24 PM) That's a shame. Hudson could be a very effective option logging some important innings for the Sox next year. Clearly, his future is as a starter, but with no room in the rotation right now, and the Sox looking to be contenders, I think it makes all of the sense in the world to have your 12 best pitchers on the 25 man roster. Not really. Stunting a guy like Hudson could mean the next Andy Sisco. It would have been interesting to see what happened to him had he not been a rule V pick and allowed to throw 150 IP a year as a minor league starter.

Report: Selig to step down in 2012
He has also not done enough to keep the small market teams respectable in the sport, unlike most of the other major sports. The draft and the handling of international players is still a complete disaster when compared to baseball and hockey especially.

Golf A Sport?
QUOTE (T R U @ Nov 28, 2009 -> 11:40 PM) There is a difference between those sports and golf.. You cant really get your friends together and play 11 on 11 full pad football.. how many times as anyone played 9 on 9 baseball with friends all out, as in the pitcher is throwing hard someone is callin balls and strikes etc.. You can literally go play golf exactly like tiger woods does, the only difference is you arent good.. and good in terms of being on the PGA tour.. Im not trying to bash golf, i just dont think its a sport nor do i think they are athletes especially when people in their 60's or older can play.. You can play golf like Tiger Woods about as much as you can play baseball like Arod. In the same sense that you don't play 9 on 9 baseball with umps and the like, you don't play in PGA tour events with crowds of fans and tour officials. Age also has nothing to do with it. Some of the best distance runners the world are old. Heck there are guys who can marathon into their 60's and still break three hours. Are you going to tell me that a marathoner isn't participating in a sport, just because some old people are good at it?

White Sox sign Andruw Jones
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 29, 2009 -> 02:21 PM) We'll have to see the other moves. Right now, without Thome and Dye, that's 2 base cloggers gone. However, the Sox had 113 SB last year, and assuming Lillibridge and Nix are both in AAA or elsewhere, 78 of those SB have departed with 17 coming back. So while the team speed might be a little better, I think the baserunners need to be schooled a lot better. Of course you will have Rios for an entire year and if he can get on base he can get you a steal. It doesn't appear the home runs are going to be like they were in the heyday, so moving runners and stealing bases will be important. I know some don't think strikeouts are a big deal, but the Sox are going to have to cut those down and use their outs to get something done. 78+17= 105?

That's not the way you want to end the trip, especially after the games against Calgary, Vancouver, and San Jose, but only one team in Hawks history has done better on the circus trip, and that was 1991-92.
