  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 23, 2009 -> 09:42 PM) In other words...the price is currently too high, because you'd have to beat a hypothetical deal that might not yet have been offered. Its not necessarily that the price is too high. I am guessing at this stage of the off season, there is no price they would accept.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 23, 2009 -> 04:33 PM) Johnny Damon doesn't feel like he should have to take a pay cut from his current $13 mil/year salary. lol. That's what happen when you have Hitler's speech writer taking care of your free agency packet.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 23, 2009 -> 09:29 PM) I still think the full takeaway from this report was: 1. KW knows he needs a bigger bat 2. KW is interested in Gonzalez 3. KW would be willing to pay a high price for Gonzalez, but 4. The price for Gonzalez is currently high enough that KW doesn't want to meet it unless he can free up some space somewhere else to make up for what he'd have to lose in terms of prospects. Or San Diego thinks it is too early to take an offer on Adrian Gonzalez, because they are waiting for bigger fish to come down the pipeline.
  4. Can remember Greektown very well from working at 1000 W Van Buren for a while. I liked Mr Greek better.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 23, 2009 -> 01:18 PM) So your argument is that you think he should have gotten an ARM? That would have been a stellar idea. Anyway...there was in fact an interest rate spike associated with the deficits that were being run there, and thus interest rates did in fact go up from the point in 2003-2004. That then caused a massive bust in the housing market, and removed the inflationary pressure that running a structural deficit would create. That's called "Different circumstance" or something to that effect. Running a large structural deficit during boom times = bad, running a deficit during the largest bust in 70 years = the correct resposne. I'll be interested to see how he flips on this one in about three years.
  6. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Nov 23, 2009 -> 01:55 PM) Hey Cowley. Even Jake Peavy said it. Odds of seeing an acknowledgment of the fact he was 100% wrong, zero.
  7. na, na, na, na, hey, hey, hey, good bye!
  8. More than the player, they want to free up the salary that Sopel holds.
  9. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Nov 23, 2009 -> 01:37 PM) Which is a ridiculous way of looking at things and exactly why I said earlier in the thread that KW will catch s*** for this move. It's hard to improve your bench or add depth to your bullpen early in the offseason because fans are largely impatient and prone to knee jerk reactions. If this is the only move he makes between now and Spring Training then yeah, you can get pissed but free agency started like 3 days ago -- we haven't even gotten to the winter meetings -- at this point in the '05/'06 offseason we hadn't even acquired Thome yet and that's about the earliest you're going to see a big trade made. Can you blame people for being upset with all of the big trades and free agency signings that have been going on all over the place? Oh, wait...

  12. QUOTE (chisox2334 @ Nov 23, 2009 -> 12:17 PM) not everyone on that website ridicules soxnet Sure, then there are the people who take materials from Soxnet...
  13. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 23, 2009 -> 12:07 PM) Wait a second... didn't that same site ridicule SoxTalk mentioning the possibility based on non-journalistic sources? I am waiting to see if Joe Cowley tells me if it is OK or not...
  14. Blackhawks.com is still saying that Hossa's return could be Wed @ San Jose.
  15. QUOTE (The Critic @ Nov 23, 2009 -> 11:15 AM) At some point it has to become too much.....doesn't it? Or do Zetterberg, Osgood and Datsyuk all have to go on the DL to derail them? Can we try it to find out?
  16. I can't believe anyone thinks mustard is a good idea on a hot dog.
  17. f*** yeah!
  18. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 23, 2009 -> 10:58 AM) You are obsessed with his ass. You know LF, there is nothing he likes better than a big black ass.

  20. Craploads of junk on a hotdog doesn't make it decent. It ruins it.
  21. All of you are h8rs!!!
  22. QUOTE (GREEDY @ Nov 22, 2009 -> 11:00 PM) I have posted this take before, and I really don't want to beat a dead horse but... I really do not see the Chicago White Sox acquiring a CF this offseason. Even before Alex Rios proceeded to have a horrible end of the year with the Sox, his claiming was a major gamble; But it was a risk worth taking for KW, because center fielders do not grow on trees. Especially center fielders that will play average or better defense and have major offensive upside for the position. While I love defense more than the next guy... hell, more than any guy: Alex Rios has 3X the value as a CF, that he has as a RF. There will likely be a plethora of inexpensive corner outfielder options, so I cannot imagine the Sox would need to break the proverbial prospect bank to acquire another outfielder. Especially considering KW could acquire a really inexpenssive RH outfielder, platoon him with Teahen or Kotsay and get great production for a fraction of what JD made in '09. I just cannot see Rios playing anywhere but CF for the 2010 Chicago White Sox. The Sox are looking for a person they could put into the lead off spot. I think they realize that with the players they have this person could play any OF position, or either 2B or 3B. If they find this person, they will make the other players fit. If it ends up being a CF, Rios will slide into RF.
  23. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 22, 2009 -> 11:12 PM) that was more of a prospect for prospect trade....although McCarthy was certainly at the time seen as more "big league ready" i meant, a package of prospects being traded for a Top 10-20 in the minors type, like Joe Borchard at the peak of his career with us, on Jon Rauch before the labrum injury These are your exact words. Kenny traded our top prospect (IE a Flowers/Hudson/MItchell) for two unproven prospects in both Danks and Massett.
  24. What a great game. This team is just on fire right now. Too bad Detroit is just as hot.
  25. Real men use ketchup on a hot dog.
