  1. QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 8, 2009 -> 11:08 AM) So we took a cut, then paid it back later? Meanwhile the deficit forced money to be borrowed, so we paid the cut back with interest. I have said this before, but you really need to study the multiplier effect.
  2. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Nov 8, 2009 -> 10:27 AM) I think an underlying issue for a lot of people is that we are beginning to punish the successful in this country. I mean, they have enough money, they should be forced to share it. While that works short term, again we think short term only, the long term thinking isn't there. If we keep doing this, little by little add taxes here, a windfall tax there, we begin to foster an environment of, "be average" because if you get too successful, they're going to just take it away all in the name of good. That's when foreign countries (and this is beginning to happen now) begin offering these rich successful people tax havens...and the rich begin to disappear altogether. I do not like this environment of entitlement this nation is building. An even bigger problem is getting to be that we are narrowing the pyramid of taxes to the point where such a significant portion of the population doesn't pay taxes. It is quickly approaching half of the nation. What this is doing is making a larger and larger portion literally dependant on a smaller and smaller portion of the population. We are seeing the dangers of that right now. When problems happen, tax shortfalls are multiplied because the group is getting to be so small. And of course the solution is to take more from them, to keep the pyramid from collapsing. And what this does is cause all of the other things this part of population is responsible for, such as employing people, to become impossible.
  3. QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 8, 2009 -> 08:58 AM) Each player has multiple millions of reasons to pick a team. Chicago has a decent lifestyle for players. That counts for something. Forgot to mention a huge media market with tons of marketing opportunie$$$$?
  4. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Nov 7, 2009 -> 11:37 PM) I love that you blame all of California's problems on one guy. Yea, because it was all him. All of it. Pelosi and her ilk, who run that state, had nothing to do with it, it was all Arnold. We wouldn't wanna blame liberals, after all. Blago sucked, but even I know he was 2% of the problem in IL. The other 98% still exists...and they're still sucking this state dry. The days seem to become sadder and sadder with the way we're moving in this country. Obviously, we're broke, and we have no way of ever reigning in the spending...but I have faith, the US always seems to pull through in the end. I just hope I'm alive to see it happen... We...will...prevail. It is a great example of what the left wing is trying to do at the federal level. The government can't be all things to all people. Trying to do that is going to lead to a collapse. In Cali all they are doing is blaming the last in a long line of people who have made this mess. This didn't just start.
  5. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 8, 2009 -> 09:30 AM) Well, first the senate bill must pass, then they go into committee to merge the two bills, then it gets voted on by the two houses again. Further, the cost is kind of a silly number considering the House bill, for one, they both project to cut the deficit. Although the senate does a much better job of cutting it for a 20 year projection than the house, which is better for the first 10. But no, then he didn't lie to the American people. Because Congress makes bills. And considering it is projecting to reduce the deficit, that's probably more important than anything. And the taxing of small businesses for HC may or may not make the cut. A lot yet to be determined on this bill. But, one thing is for sure, the dachau death camps. The funny part is that this is being sold as cost savings, and of course people are lapping it up. At the end of the day, it is a cost shift at best. They are adding taxes to businesses and people. History and common sense tell us that taxes get passed on to consumers. The dirty secret that no one can seem to either figure out or admit is that subsidizing something does not make it any cheaper. You want a great example, look at higher education. All subsidizing something does it push out the curves for pricing and make the price and market balance out much higher.
  6. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 8, 2009 -> 02:57 AM) Bernsie is the #1 anti-Pods guy in the world, so he had to love that. Just cause his contract demands are too high for KW, doesnt mean other teams will accept them. Will be interesting to see if/when he signs and for how much it actually is for It will be no more than half of that, and the second year will be a team option.

  8. QUOTE (Brian @ Nov 7, 2009 -> 10:38 PM) I have a crush on Kristen Wiig. I have the biggest crush ever on Kristen Wiig...
  9. X his contract out by rescinding him after next year
  10. Very possible, but they can still cut Tyrus to make some room.
  11. Soxace, I'd love to see a Wade/Rose backcourt, I just don't see it happening. I see us getting either Stoudemire or Bosh to finish off this squad.
  12. Quit it. Chicago is the guys hometown. It still doesn't mean anything.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 7, 2009 -> 10:07 PM) Until I read this article, I figured that Sosa's look was just the way the cameras had caught him. Dude looks like he should have a conversion van and a bag full of candy.
  14. Out of the question. Wade isn't going anywhere.
  15. My expectations were 2-4 at this point.
  16. The 5 straight FT misses in the last minute plus almost killed them. Thankfully Charlotte couldn't do anything right themselves.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 7, 2009 -> 09:25 PM) Pretty sure most options need to be picked up within like 10 days of the end of the series. For 2011?
  18. Kinda surprised they are over .500 at this point.
  19. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Nov 7, 2009 -> 06:19 PM) Troubling things here: The pkrase of the day in Sox management has switched fro "under the radar" to "you have to look at the projection" and "their profile" Plus here we go again about how much the Sox have valued a player from anothet team for several years. Addiiotnally now we are hearing there is "no money available" We have been talking about no money for a while now. That shouldn't be a surprise at all.
  20. Crap like basketball and football are on now...
  21. QUOTE (Benchwarmerjim @ Nov 7, 2009 -> 01:12 PM) the Twins picked up the 2011 option ($10.5) on Micheal Cuddyer Wow, that is early to do. Did they have to do it already?
  22. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Nov 7, 2009 -> 12:00 PM) It really doesn't. It really does. If you have a bad fielding infield, you really don't want a team full of groundball pitchers. That would only serve to exacerbate the problem.
  23. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Nov 7, 2009 -> 11:30 AM) Scoring runs and preventing runs are the same thing though, surely. If player A has a +3 run bat and +7 run glove, is that any different from player B with a -8 run glove and +18 run bat? Depends on the pitching staff too.
