Adrian Gonzalez
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Nov 11, 2009 -> 11:37 AM) It's not all that realistic but Trading for Gonzalez then turning around and dumping Konerko for little (saving $12M) then signing a Vlad to be the full time DH would be a coup. You'd be paying those two combined less than just Konerko. Now THAT would be a dangerous lineup and allow for some financial flexibility, I just don't think moving Konerko's contract is all that realistic at this point in time. If you get Gonzalez you almost have to move Konerko, he's worth about half of his $12M salary as a designated hitter, it's not very hard to find production similar to Konerko's in the DH spot. I'm with you. I don't see a team really wanting Konerko at 12 million dollars a year, unless we pick up someone else's crappy contract.

Zero chance that the call should have been overturned last night. That was the most unconclusive play I have ever seen.

Adrian Gonzalez
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 11, 2009 -> 11:16 AM) It would only make sense for the Sox to look at Gonzalez. If they acquired him I'd expect other changes to follow (ie, Paulie and some other guys) but he's the type of bad you find a way to get. High impact player. If we could make the deal without giving up any of our every-day parts it would be a tremendous move. I'd even consider a deal built around Alexei Ramirez in the case of Adrian Gonzalez. A Hudson/Ramirez package would work for me. Or a Hudson, Viciedo, Danks package if that is what interests the Pads. I don't know if that is ultimately enough, but we are talking about a legitimate potential MVP bat. Realistically, if they get Gonzalez, Konerko could move to DH for his last year, and you are pretty well set, except for needing one more OF who can lead off. The pen needs some work to, at least to replace Dotel.

Executions
I'd want to pull the switch. I'm not going to lie, I know I would be bitter and angry.

Dye speaks.
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 11, 2009 -> 08:39 AM) It says a lot about how good and fun it must be to play for the White Sox given that everyone we boot gets so pissed about it. Good point. You don't hear many who are excited by leaving anymore. Boy has that changed.

Adrian Gonzalez
There isn't a doubt in my mind that Kenny Williams is sniffing around as many young bats as he can right now to try to remake this offensive core. We are losing tons of offense this year and next, and he knows that better than anyone else. At the end of the day, I really get the feeling he will pull someone into Chicago.

Adrian Gonzalez
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 10, 2009 -> 09:39 PM) Depending on what your scouts think of Hudson. For the Gonzalez, you would have to think of him at least as a #2, if not a #1.

Dye speaks.
QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Nov 10, 2009 -> 09:16 PM) Let me get this straight. We want to put out a 36 year old not-so-mobile career outfielder as our starting 1st baseman. Put me down as a guy who votes pass on that idea. Its either DH or find another team. Sure his bat probably comes back. The terrible defense and multiyear contract that he would require isn't work the risk. How mobile do you have to be to play 1B in USCF? Besides being 6'6" might be his best asset.

Dye speaks.
QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 10, 2009 -> 08:58 PM) Gotta love Dye using the Rios arrival as an excuse. I love Jermaine's contributions during his time here, but there's no doubt in my mind that he's one of the veterans we keep hearing about that might have been too comfortable in the clubhouse and didn't really like the influx of young players. He did the samething when his contract was about to expire and the Dye to Boston rumors started. He really strikes me as mentally weak.

Adrian Gonzalez
QUOTE (NIUSox @ Nov 10, 2009 -> 06:33 PM) Right before they went off the air today on the Afternoon Saloon, Harry said that he heard from a source close to the Sox that Hudson is the centerpiece to a possible deal for Gonzalez. FWIW The thing is, many teams could top that.

Official 2009-2010 NBA Thread
That is as close as I have ever seen. I couldn't honestly decide if it was out or not. It was impossible from the shots they showed on TV. I can't see how they saw something to overrule. That call had to stay whatever they called it as far as I am concerned.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Nov 10, 2009 -> 02:50 PM) Bolland out indefinitely with back surgery. He had back problems last year, and the Hawks decided to give him a 5 year contract. Oops.... Estimates are that he will be out 3-4 months. Ugh.

Damn. This team is having no luck at all. Bolland was such as stabilizing force.

Out of curiousity, how much of Jordan Danks have people actually seen that are saying if he is ready or not?

The "Tea Party" Thread
QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Nov 10, 2009 -> 02:11 PM) I'm going to tell you we dont have a minority of a minority running this country today. The assumption you're carrying around that somehow the extreme left (communists) and the extreme right (hardcore anti-federalists) are dictating any sort of policy is pretty ludicrous and unsubstantiated. Nevermind. I forgot who I was responding to. Carry on to whatever you wanting to do.

The "Tea Party" Thread
QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Nov 10, 2009 -> 02:02 PM) Couldn't disagree more. Look at the coalition governments European countries have to make majorities out of 5 or 6 parties, you end up with 25-30% of the population dictating policy as opposed to our 50%+1. Not that there can be 2 or more viable parties in America to begin with. Structurally its impossible. Look at who the parties represent today and the fringes that manage each of them, not to mention how many people vote and drive the political process here. You can't tell me that we don't have a minority of a minority running this country today.

The legal side of playing movies
QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Nov 10, 2009 -> 01:41 PM) So could a history teacher show Apollo 13? Technically they should be doing something in history about the lunar landings, or moon exploration etc, if they were going to do so.

The legal side of playing movies
QUOTE (longshot7 @ Nov 10, 2009 -> 01:01 PM) This is accurate. How else do colleges and universities get away with screening whole films for Film classes? It is for a specific educational purpose, which is the big exception.

A letter from a fan inside Cuba
QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 10, 2009 -> 10:18 AM) If you tell me you sailed there, I will be so envious . . . I wonder why we can have so much well placed empathy for people in those living conditions and then feel so much disdain for those who flee those conditions and come here to work whatever menial job they can find. We'd love to help, just don't get too close. American's have despised immigrants since day one essentially. Think back through history to see how the Chinese were treated, how the Irish were treated, how the Jews were treated. Unfortunately, this isn't new.

The legal side of playing movies
QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Nov 10, 2009 -> 10:19 AM) Yeah, I'm backing off on my unequivocal stance that school classrooms are not public per se and therefore it's not a public performance. http://www.movlic.com/copyrightcompliance.html I do still think that many administrations crack down more to keep teachers from getting lazy than because they fear a knock on the door from the MPAA. It would make sense to me too. It happens way too often.

The legal side of playing movies
QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Nov 10, 2009 -> 09:24 AM) My feeling then is that it is either a misunderstanding of the code on their part, or a convenient stretching of the truth to make sure teachers are teaching and not slacking off with movie days. Knowing our school system, you could very well be right. It wouldn't surprise me for a second.

The legal side of playing movies
QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Nov 10, 2009 -> 09:21 AM) Sure, and that's another matter entirely. When my kids' school goes into lazy auto-pilot around the holidays and shows way to many movies I get pi$$ed off. Not a legal issue in this case, just a $hitty substitute for actually teaching. They specifically mentioned it based on the legal side of things, not on the educational.

The legal side of playing movies
QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Nov 10, 2009 -> 09:01 AM) So then, if the subject is "Holidays around the World" and on the last day before Winter Break they show "The Santa Claus" that would fall in line. If on a random Thursday, they showed Toy Story, that wouldn't be. That is what our school system told our teachers.
