QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 14, 2009 -> 12:03 PM) And in both cases, they apparently needed to be more selective in when to attempt steals. I like stolen bases, but you need to do it at a better clip than that to be of value. I'd rather have a guy go 20/22 (like Getz) than 30/43. There are very few baserunners who can steal at an effective rate (say, 75%+, give or take), on 30+ attempts. Only a very few, very elite guys can do that for more than one aberrant season. My feeling is that we don't need to use $10 million on another Pods, when we can have him for a few million dollars in all likelihood.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 14, 2009 -> 10:43 AM) one of the SI writers at the start of the season picked the Hawks to win it all, solely based on the fact that he expects them to make a trade for a #1 goaltender during the season... They have no money left under the cap. They would have to find a deal to get rid of Campell or Huet first.

Healthcare reform
QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Oct 14, 2009 -> 11:58 AM) Unlike the Dem party, you are often penalized for crossing the aisle in the GOP on key votes. Snowe may lose her ranking membership position on a key committee or two from this actually. Except that isn't true. The Democrats are already looking at running people in races that have gotten away from the Obama talking points. And Joe Lieberman is offended you forgot about him.

QUOTE (whitesox901 @ Oct 11, 2009 -> 02:31 AM) It'll get shot down like everywhere else I've posted it, but why not Juan Pierre? He's LA's 4th OF, I'm sure he wouldn't be too hard to acquire, he does have a hefty contract though. 2009 Line: Games: 145 Average .308 OBP: .365 Stolen Bases: 30/42 (Wish it was higher) That is nearly identical to what Pods put up last year, in a month less with the big club. 132 game, .304 average, .353 OBP, and 30-43 SB

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 14, 2009 -> 09:42 AM) It's irrelevant to the discussion at hand, unless you believe ACORN is more important than the Taliban, Afghanistan or Pakistan. So do you really believe that because they are the biggest threat to the US, they should reported more often than things that are actually happening in the day to day news? Should the lead story on the networks be the Taliban every night?

QUOTE (lostfan @ Oct 14, 2009 -> 09:14 AM) You keep moving the goalposts, what is your point exactly? I am trying to follow the moving goalposts to be honest. One minute we were talking about the news, and then it got switched to what actually was news. Anyways, my point is the same as the first time. What Glenn Beck talks about, or anyone on any news station is going to be dominated by the outrage of the day. The President's job isn't to be caught up in that mess.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 14, 2009 -> 09:00 AM) That is irrelevant to the current situation. ACORN is an organization that our President stood in their midst during the campaign and said THEY would shape American public policy with him. I would call their actions fairly relevant.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Oct 14, 2009 -> 08:54 AM) What happened with Acorn wasn't really that big of a news story. Fox acted like it was the biggest news story this year. Then why did organizations like CPAC get so much coverage in the prior eight years, without being federally funded and breaking laws?

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 14, 2009 -> 08:38 AM) The point of the article is to say you have a major news network ripping Obama for not dealing with "important world events". While they temselves are not talking about or dealing with "important world events". They are reporting events as they happen. If stories about Acorn and the like are the most occurring thing, that is what is going to be reported. The numbers are going to skew towards whatever is hot. That is their job. I would think you know that the President's job is a little bit different.

Jenks takes issue with complaints about weight
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 14, 2009 -> 08:07 AM) If he lost weight, all he has to do is check his body he will find it. The ongoing back issue really hadn't been public knowledge until this article came out, but obviously the Sox staff feels Jenks wouldn't have many of the issues he has been having, and lets face it, injuries have robbed him of time the past 2 seasons, if he got down to even 240, which still is more weight than most carry on a 6'2" frame. Jenks has officially weighed in at 299 pounds as a White Sox. It probably was more than that, they just didn't want to give him the distinction of being a 300 pounder. If his attitude is "I'll be as heavy as a want to be" it would be one thing if he's still lights out. He's not. If you look at the body of his work in 2009, even with an ERA in the mid 3's and 29 saves, you will find his overall performance to be well below average. He was only about 50% converting saves when he came in with a 1 run lead. Most of his saves were lay ups. 18 or 19 I believe were recorded when he entered with a 3 run lead. Your other points are true, and I don't think the White Sox have sidestepped him, but don't you find it at least slightly disheartening that a guy in line to be paid $7-8 million, or about $125k an inning, doesn't seem interested in the least to be in top physical condition? Where did you see that at?
