GOP Launches New Website
QUOTE (Tex @ Oct 15, 2009 -> 03:41 PM) Thanks for the update. Although we seem to be slightly behind the curve. Are you checking the web site or articles about the web site? I swear half of the Fox News audience is Libs looking for an excuse to get upset.

Official 2009-2010 NHL Thread
QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Oct 15, 2009 -> 11:40 AM) I guess "disappointing" is a term that's relative to your individual expectations, so I can't really argue with you there; for the money and the resulting cap problems for the team, he has been a disappointment.. But check out these stats from last season: Goalie A: 2.67 GAA .912 SV% Goalie B: 2.53 GAA .909 SV% Any guesses here? Hint: If either one is "beyond bad," its still more than "good enough."

Hey, we do need to use caution. I am guessing if it gets heard more than once, it is all over.

Healthcare reform
QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 15, 2009 -> 02:55 PM) is this going to be a part of the new "obama's health care plan will force feed you meth" meme or something? No, but these will be some of the people that we will all be forced to pay for under the "no one can be dropped" portion of the plan.

Something to consider on the potential trade front.
Mark Buehrle isn't going to go anywhere unless the Sox bomb next year. After coming in 3rd last year and a bad economy, you don't need to give people more reasons to cancel season tickets than they already have.

Miguel Cabrera got drunk with Sox players Friday night?
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 15, 2009 -> 11:13 AM) Why is that the most interesting part? Are those guys totally irreplaceable for some reason? The closer's spot and an adequate 2b/ss who don't give you a ton on offense isn't going to cost an arm and a leg. Those are a couple of potentially huge pieces for the Tigers. Rodney blew one save all year. If they get a guy who is at 85-90% instead, their season is totally different. Plus the Tigers have had disasters for pens for years now. Take a key guy out of the pen, and we as Sox fans know what domino effect can start. Polanco is one of the toughest situational guys in the game. He knows how to work a pitcher, and he isn't afraid of the big hit.

Official 2009-2010 NHL Thread
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 15, 2009 -> 08:52 AM) i heard that on the way to work this morning too and thought it couldnt be right. A quick Yahoo search turned up that April 11, 2009, Dusty Buffs made a penalty shot against the Red Wings in Detroit. Actually won the game with 28 seconds left in the 3rd. That same article says that last penalty shot before that was Alexei Zhamnov vs. Buffalo on 12/13/02. Maybe it is supposed to be penalty shot goal at home??? actually, just found this link with all of their penalty shots. Troy Murray in 1987 was the last made penalty shot at home http://www.blackhawkzone.com/history/penaltyshots.php Yeah, they just ran the graphic on SportsRise. 21 straight misses at home for the Hawks.

Frank Thomas.....retired!?!?!?
QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 14, 2009 -> 10:13 PM) I don't know if Thomas wants to coach or not, has he ever been asked? You don't have to be a good player to be a good coach. Sometimes the guys who weren't stars make better coaches because they spent more time studying the game. Wasn't Frank the one who refused to listen to any hitting coach but Walt? To the point where they have to fly Walt in occasionally to help Frank?

Healthcare reform
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 14, 2009 -> 10:07 PM) We went over this a lot during the stimulus discussion and I've got too much work to do to really rehash it, here's a source citing work by a couple of people including the Congressional budget office and the congressional research service. Kap will say it's more complicated and those people are wrong, I will say Kap is flat out wrong, Kap will say that we have one of the highest corporate tax rates in the world, I'll respond "Yeah, if you assume that all of the deductions don't exist", I have to go worry about water-partitioning. The funny part of that is that the same people who are saying the corporate tax rate doesn't do much are the same people running around for Barack giving the "jobs saved" number.

$60 million for Chapman
QUOTE (lostfan @ Oct 14, 2009 -> 09:26 PM) That's got to just be a random large number he threw out like Strasburg's 50 million. He won't get anywhere near that. A lot of money yes but not 60 million. It almost has to be.

Great period outside of the 2-1 goal for Ed. They must have said something to Campbell, because he has gone ultra-conservative on the breakouts. I think he turned around and restarted two or three times in that period.

Something to consider on the potential trade front.
QUOTE (Socal Cid @ Oct 14, 2009 -> 06:00 PM) Lester's deal was a multi-year deal. I was speaking in simply one-year terms to avoid arbitration. There is a big difference. In 2005 (when Bonderman was first-time arbitration eligible) his numbers are very similar to Danks at this point in his career. Now, not so much. Maybe my figures were a little undervalued, especially since it was 4 arbitration seasons ago, but you cannot take Leter's 3.4M figure because that was a mutli-year number. Actually when it comes to arbitration, there is NOT a difference. Similar players at similar points in their career are a main point in the process.

Avoid downtown Chicago
QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Oct 14, 2009 -> 04:45 PM) My grandfather was part of the construction crew that screwed up the original LSD "S" curve. Younger Soxtalkers have no idea how bad that curve was before the 1980s reconstruction job. The way he told the story, there was a crew working northward and another crew working southward, and when they realized the road wasn't going to meet up correctly they just put in this horrendous jog to get them to join together. Good work there, Gramps! So basically you are saying it is a genetic issue?
