Cowley and his Takes on the Sox
QUOTE (Disco72 @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 10:55 AM) What's this part all about? Was Pods a complete sourpuss that now is in love with the game of baseball? Jokes aside, if Pods does have some newfound joy in playing baseball, that's a good thing. They were talking about it on the Score this morning apparently he had the Carlos Quentin approach to baseball.

2016 Olympics
QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 12:38 PM) That's crazy talk. Now that we didn't get the Olympics, we won't have increased taxes, our infrastructure will still be improved such as roads and public transit, more affordable housing will still be built and now our education system will improve as well as our crime rate because our city won't have to be under the watchful eye of the world! Btw, I live in Chicago. lol. You really believe that you were going to get hit with taxes for the Olympics that you aren't going to get hit with now? How is that exactly? What local governmental things are going to not be enacted and taxes added, that were going to get done before, specifically?

2016 Olympics
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 12:08 PM) And would add more fuel to the fire when it comes to most of the world hating us. This sure isn't helping this American's feeling about the rest of the world right now either. It isn't worth being the world's sugar daddy just so someone will like us. Maybe they should put on a couple of their own olympics and then think about how much America helps teh rest of the world.

Official 2009-2010 NFL Thread
QUOTE (T R U @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 02:59 PM) I wouldn't, because this is Soxtalk not MLBtalk. Its kinda unfair though that the Packers fans on here cant use the NFL thread because 90% of the board hates the Packers. No one said they can't. But they shouldn't expect a whole lot of sympathy either. Pretty much no one here likes the Packers.

trading buehrle
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 10:31 AM) So the Sox should trade AJ, trade Konerko, trade Buerhle and just get back a bunch of prospects. Apparently there are people on this board more interested in minor league baseball than major league baseball. What did Minnesota get back for Santana? Is that what everyone wants? I prefer trying to win than having some decent minor leaguers who will bust in a couple of years. The AL Central blows. The Sox should win it every year for a while. THE.Carlos.Gomez.

trading buehrle
IN a season where the Sox had an awful record, they aren't about to trade the most recognizable piece of the team when they are trying to sell season tickets. Somehow the Sox are going to have to convince the casual fan that they are in it for 2010, and trading the face of the franchise isn't how you do it.

2016 Olympics
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 05:53 PM) Oh please. Spare me the "if you aren't with us, you're against us" crap. It's not "disloyal" to think bringing the Olympics to Chicago would result in massive debt and buildings that would be largely unused once the Olympics are over. Remember, no one voted on this. It was Daley and his buddies shoving this down our throats. And the vast majority of this debt is going to happen anyway, because if you don't you are going to have a rust pile of a transit system, and dirt roads for interstates. It would have been nicer for everything to be under the eyes of the world, so it would have had to be done the right way. Instead it is all going to happen anyway, and it will still all be done in a backroom somewhere. As for the olympic debt, it has been pretty well proven that there wasn't going to be some huge debt left over. The Olympics in the US don't lose money.

the third goal and the first shootout goal were extremely soft. I can easily blame Huet.

2009 MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 12:18 AM) Unfortunately only 5 of the 9 runs were earned. 9 ER in 2.2 IP would have ballooned his ERA to 3.52, rather than the more palatable 3.37 that he currently holds. A 3.50+ ERA from Sabathia would have sealed the CY award for Greinke 100%, this definitely helps but I still have that tiny shred of doubt in the back of my mind. I'm thinking Zack should just go out there tomorrow, throw 7 innings of shutout ball, get his ERA below 2 and sit back and wait to collect his prize. Of course given the way this game works Zack will either give up 7 ER in the first 3 innings or he'll be pulled with 6.2 innings complete and no runs on the board putting his ERA at 1.995 for the season and I'll s*** a brick. Sabathia doesn't even deserve to be in the team picture. Its all about Hernandez and Grienke.

Cowley and his Takes on the Sox
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 04:51 PM) Exactly, why are we so concerned about dramatically winning a trade? We both got what he wanted, and it's not like Peavy isn't producing. Really the only thing that matter is that it makes our team better. I don't think anyone could argue otherwise.
