  1. QUOTE (WCSox @ Aug 22, 2009 -> 09:03 AM) Their Front Office grade (B-) is ridiculously low. Really, what does it take to get an A?
  2. Yeah, they totally miss the improvements made in the stadium over the last 7 years.
  3. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Aug 21, 2009 -> 04:39 PM) thanks for the tip, how do you get your foot in the door though? Get as involved as possible with your local stations. An internship is ideal.
  4. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Aug 21, 2009 -> 08:50 PM) sorry.. yes NYSE thru Yahoo lsiting. Yeah, so in reality, the top share holders listed there, probably hold 1% or so of the company.
  5. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 21, 2009 -> 05:37 PM) yr. example sounds like the exception, quite frankly. Um, this whole health care debate is about the exceptions.

Especially because of how few shares are listed there. Most companies have floats in the billions of shares. But there is no source in your post, so its hard to say for sure.
  8. Josh has had years worth of chances to shorten up that swing. Unless someone talks him into that, he is pretty much a AAAA player.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 21, 2009 -> 02:39 PM) Bankruptcy isn't cheap. The poorest people can't afford bankruptcy either.
  10. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 21, 2009 -> 09:10 AM) 35 but 18 at heart. Word. Except I will go for 16 at (my) heart.
  11. Commodities/stocks/options trading customer service and executions. 4 months unemployed and counting.
  12. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 21, 2009 -> 02:17 PM) So, basically, we front-loaded the sales we would have expected over the next 5 years into a month or two? Yeah, that's how I see it. There was about a years worth of pent up sales because of the recession, but there are a lot of people who seemingly jumped at the chance if they ran through all of the cash that fast. Plus cars aren't exactly an impulse item, so if you already have a car that fits into clunker status, you probably aren't the type of person who trades in every year. Once they buy something, it is going to be made to last. I think we ate into a lot of near future and mid term future demand with this program.
  13. Terry Bevington calling for a reliever that wasn't warming up... Idiot.
  14. Hey JPN, if you hear an update on the Montgomery pitcher, I'd love to hear it here! Thanks.
  15. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Aug 21, 2009 -> 12:58 PM) He could be relatively cheap. Chapman's gonna get all the pub. The Sox are not investing millions of dollars into starting pitching for a long, long time. We have four great starting pitchers under contract for something like 3-4 years. It just isn't cost efficient to do.
  16. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 21, 2009 -> 01:59 PM) Weren't you among those who were constantly stating that the American car companies were saddled with ridiculous labor contracts, that gave them those very advantages? From what I've seen the pay and BASIC benefits for workers at foreign car plants in the US are very similar to those working for the Big 3. The difference is the extra crap in those labor contracts for the Big 3 - the spare engineers, the absurd pension plans, etc. Those were the big killers. In any case, the point is still that you want as many jobs as possible. Therefore it would make no sense to restrict this to US companies. I sure was. But if we are going to be putting cash into people's pockets for "free", I'd rather have the American autoworkers benefit, the American suppliers, as well as the American stock market. Honestly, if we were going to giveaway something to the auto companies, this was the lesser of evils. I am fully convinced that this will be a temporary fix that will actually hurt auto sales for half of a decade, but that is besides the point. In any case it was better than the loans we tried giving the auto companies when we all knew they were going into bankruptcy anyway.
  17. QUOTE (Tex @ Aug 20, 2009 -> 11:30 PM) As I said there should be some co-pay to prevent overuse. With such an obvious problem, I would be amazed if it was not addressed in the program. It is free for those that go to the emergency room intending not to pay. There was an earlier comment by Alpha that the plan allows for the government to draft your bank account to pay for the services, so that would seem to address that there will be a co-pay and there will be strict collections, both would work to help solve your concern. So in other words you are for increasing health care costs to those who can't afford it.
  18. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 21, 2009 -> 08:58 AM) You do realize that most of the Toyotas, Nissans, Hondas, Subarus, heck even BMW's, are manufactured all or in part in the US, right? With US workers at US jobs? Very well actually because many of the steel mills here in NW IN supply them with steel. The part they don't mention is that the American auto workers compensation package dwarfs their forgein counterparts. Those jobs are also concentrated in some of the regions of the country that have been ripped apart by this recession. I believe I saw Michigan alone has something like a 20% unemployment rate right now.
  19. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 21, 2009 -> 07:55 AM) So ends an interesting chapter in the Stimulus efforts of Congress. It was a roaring success in terms of gross result, but of course, poorly executed. I'm glad they did it though. I much prefer incentives of this sort, versus cash giveaways or plain old tax cuts. My only bone with this program (well besides the obvious miscalculations) was that they allowed this to be applied to any car company. This program should have been kept to the big 2 US automakers. I can't believe if we are going to giveaway money, that we wouldn't make sure it saved jobs that actually can support people.
  20. QUOTE (CSF @ Aug 20, 2009 -> 08:20 PM) YIKES! Dex's line tonight: 0.1P, 8 runs, 6 hits, 1 BB, 1 K. Also looks like Poreda is scuffling a bit too since the trade. Yesterday's start vs. Iowa: 5 IP, 3 runs (2 ER), 6 hits, 3 BB, 4 K's, 87 pitches (53 strikes). Poreda has some work to do. He has got to learn to hit the strike zone much more consistantly.
  21. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 11:33 AM) I'll settle for Noel Arguelles. Again, not gonna happen.
  22. QUOTE (Tex @ Aug 20, 2009 -> 09:50 AM) You mean adding 50 million payments to the system versus 50 million services without full payment. We do not agree on the actual number of people who will now visit Doctors who have not visited before. The impact will be IMHO, less than what you are quoting. IMHO there will be an increase of people visiting Doctors and a decrease in ER and Urgent Care visits. There will also be an increase in routine care and a decrease in care for more serious, and more labor intensive care, from waiting and allowing small problems to become big problems. I have tremendous faith in America opening the clinics and expanding Doctors offices once payments will follow these treatments. The uninsured are an anchor to expanding health care. I don't buy that at all. You are talking about adding the people who have been least able to afford care before to the system, and there being no incentive for them to keep care to a small of a level as possible. Once this happens, it becomes like welfare, social security, or any other program that people are "entitled" to. Unless someway that has been publicly discussed happens to discourage people from seeking care, there will be an explosion of people seeking medical attention. Like I said earlier, the cheaper something is, the more people that will buy it. When something is "free" there is nothing to stop you from using it for everything. At least now, people have the fear of their credit being ruined, or being hounded by bill collectors to stop them from seeking care for no reason. After Obama-care, there won't even be that.
