Ozzie likes willingness to deal
QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 11:45 AM) I still think Beckham and Poreda are part of a deal for Halladay. Toronto has to fall out contention very quickly for that to even be a possibility.

Blackhawks Take BP before White Sox game
I loved Ozzie comments after watching them take BP, that they were great skaters. Classic line.

Official 2008-2009 NBA Thread
QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 09:53 AM) /shrug Jordan was kind of an asshole, that's already been stated in this thread. Besides, 1) Kerr swung at Jordan first and 2) Jordan didn't get a free pass for that anyway, and he immediately apologized to Kerr for it. Nice obfuscation shrugging off the direct (and horribly inaccurate) comparison shaking hands after losing though, what's this have to do with LeBron again and the fact that he was in the wrong? Someone else brought up Jordan in terms of class, and another person called Jordan classless. After that it was called "the worst post in the history of Soxtalk", even though Jordan has done many, way less classy things than LeBron has. Plus after googling, Kerr wasn't the only teammate punched by Jordan. Will Purdue got a shot, as did Larry Krystowiak. And yes to me, punching multiple teammates (or even one) is worse sportsmanship than not shaking hands after losing.

The Great Brian Anderson Debacle
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 10:01 AM) According to SSS, Rick Hahn confirmed it was a straight platoon last night. f*** Ozzie if that's true. If that is the case, I retract my statements.

Official 2008-2009 NBA Thread
QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 09:28 AM) We're talking about on the court and sportsmanship though. Personally I don't care about the personal lives of athletes as long as they're not breaking laws, I don't want to hear about it. And I would conservatively bet that at least 50% of married NBA players cheat on their wives. Has LeBron punched a teammate yet? Jordan managed to do that at least once that I can remember as well.

The Great Brian Anderson Debacle
QUOTE (Special K @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 09:26 AM) A little off topic, but kind of a similar thought... Why does Guillen refuse to put Nix at 3rd and pull the garbage that is Josh Fields. I see only good things come out of Nix this season. He will play much better D at 3rd, even though it's not his natural position. And he has twice as many homeruns at 3rd than does Fields in half as many at-bats... And Fields imaginary power is the only reason we have him there. Nix at 3rd BA in center, and this team will be in real nice shape. Two days ago Guillen had Nix at third with Getz at second. Getz has a twisted ankle which has not allowed him to play the last couple of days, so Betemit got the call yesterday at third. Nix has had to play second base during that time.

Official 2008-2009 NBA Thread
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 09:10 AM) Worst post in the history of Soxtalk. Well to be fair, Jordan is/was a serial adulter and a big time gambler. Unless LeBron has some things that no one is talking about, I would rate not shaking hands as below both of those.

2009 Sox Predictions Merged Threads
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 09:18 AM) Did you even make any predictions in this thread, where you want to point out where people are wrong? Risk nothing, then criticize the people who have balls that you don't? Does the phrase "get a life" mean anything to you? I just looked at mine, and they are more wrong than right. So the f*** what? For the record, since that seems to be so important, S/D made no posts in this thread until he bumped it. It takes a real man to not have any convictions, yet be willing to point out when others are wrong.

The Great Brian Anderson Debacle
Not to mention there is no point in getting into a lather about Wise, because he is going to booking a ticket for Charlotte in a week anyway. Its just like it was with Lillibridge, DW is just keeping a spot warm for someone who is hurt.

Brian Anderson has the flu. I am guessing it was the same bug that supposedly Jenks had for a couple of weeks.

Ozzie likes willingness to deal
The interesting line is that Ozzie talks about Jerry saying "yes" to whatever Kenny presented, meaning that this money was NOT in the budget before the Peavy deal was put on the table. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/chi-0...0,4969578.story

Obama Book Insight

Obama Book Insight
The whole teleprompter thing wouldn't have gotten nearly as much traction if it wasn't for his whole speaking ability aura. It has been turned into such an important part of what supposedly got him elected President, and it turns out that it is all predicated on a machine feeding it all to him. He has no ability to speak on his own, only to regurgitate what he is told. At that point, just send the machine out there, and I will just judge it instead. I know it won't change anything to those who like him, and it won't change anything to those who don't, just like anything else to do with Obama.

Article on the decline of baseball card collecting
Its sad. The industry destroyed itself. They had a great niche, but they tried to move into the adult sector and turn it into a business by flooding it with all of those "premium" cards. Eventually that was the death of the industry. They lost a whole generation of kids because it became to expensive and too confusing. When it was 3-5 brands, it was pretty easy. After that, it became ridiculous.

If the Big Hurt comes back...is it just to retire?
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 10:12 PM) I call bulls***. Ozzie loves Wise. We could have Kroeger up here, or Restovich. We don't. We have Dewayne Wise. Neither of those guys who ason the forty man roster, and we are keeping a spot warm for Beckham.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 05:09 PM) Bad day for Visclosky. More of that culture of corruption I suppose. In reality that Gary/Merrillville area is as bad as the come. It doesn't surprise me that Viz is getting taken down.

Tejada Not Oswalt More Logical Target
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 05:08 PM) While on the subject of O's (at one time) IF.... I wonder if Melvin Mora could be a guy we'd look at. Last year of contract (at 9 mil) with an option for '10. Can play 3B. Power down this year, though. Mora would be an interesting guy in the lead off conversation and at 3B if we aren't sold on Pods, and want to delay Becks.
