  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 03:49 PM) Tiger Woods? Out of all of the golfers in the world, Tiger is a marvel. He is a guy who can bench over 300 pounds, and has a body fat in the 3% range.
  2. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 10:53 PM) All of Josh's mechanics are messed up. What I noticed tonight was that his load and step are completely out of whack. The basic way of hitting and generating some of the power in your swing is to have a nice balanced swing where your hands go back and you turn your hips while you step forward. While Josh is stepping forward, he is only doing that hitch thing. His hands don't move back and he doesn't turn his hips while his foot is in the air, all he's doing is that hitch where he brings his hands up. By the time he steps down and his foot is on the ground, he then brings his hands back and turns his hips. So, at the time he is suppossed to be coming forward, he's just starting his load, with his foot already being on the ground. All of his mechanics are f***ed up. It's a pity too, cause there's no doubt he's got the tools. I also don't care about him finishing up with 1 hand. I've never believed that really affected your swing. Think about, when you make contact with the ball, it doesn't matter what your swing looks like at the end. You gotta focus on getting that bat through the zone with some velocity and putting a charge in the ball. Whether you finish up with 1 hand or 2 hands on the bat, all that matters is what your swing looks like when you make contact with the ball. EDIT: After re-watching Josh's swing several times in slow-mo, I've changed my original paragraph. Way to steal what Hawk was saying last night...
  3. Thome has been clutch forever. You don't hit 550 homers or drive in 1520 run without it. Heck all you have to do is think back to his Indian days of kicking our asses all over the field to remember it. Just because someone on a message board said he wasn't doesn't mean they are right.
  4. QUOTE (shipps @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 07:45 AM) I dont think I can stomach another kyyle gamethread start.... No offense but hopefully they last until something like the All-Star break.
  5. I don't know if it will be brought back or not. There seems to be one or two threads at a time about trades, hardly enough to really justify a whole other forum. Maybe if things heat up, but as of now, no.
  6. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 09:24 PM) Errors happen. I'm not too worried about it. It's not like he's on pace for 40-50 of them. Now, if he plays 3B exclusively and he's just plain bad, then we have a problem. The problem is that we don't have the most steady defensive team out there already, and a few of our pitchers don't pitch over mistakes well. And with 9 errors that would put him on pace for about the low thirties over a full 162 games
  7. The first players Thome mentions in the post game interview tonight are Pods and Lexi getting on base FWIW.
  8. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 02:41 PM) What a coincidence! I was just starting to wonder what had become of my ex-girlfriend. Does it really count when they are taking out their dentures?
  9. 5 in a row baby!!!
  10. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 07:30 PM) I think a lot of people (including myself) are trying to talk themselves into thinking he's not ready simply because he was drafted just last year, and he hasn't played a certain amount of minor league games. Even Joe Cowley had a Twitter earlier saying Ozzie said "if Beckham comes up, we're in trouble." Well Ozzie, I got news for you. He's ready. I'm not worried about his bat, I am worried about the nine errors he has already in a much slower game at the minor league level.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 08:10 PM) None of the banks were allowed to enter bankruptcy, that's a terrible comparison. If it wasn't for absolutely massive government intervention and the explicit government guarantee of deposits through the FDIC then virtually every big bank in this country would have been gone last year. The airlines were also given, quite frankly, massive government handouts in the post-911 environment, at least 2 times. Basically your argument is that bankruptcy is fine for companies as long as there is a monstrous federal intervention at the same time. What the heck do you think the bailout was? It was corporate bankruptcy. And despite the bailouts, the airlines all still went through massive bankruptcies (except for one large one). Guess what, everyone still flies those airlines, they still use those banks, and they still bought chryslers. My argument isn't what you want to make it, my argument, as always, is that bankruptcy was never going to shut down the auto companies. In a historical context, that is just stupid propaganda that has no basis in reality.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 07:59 PM) But could a "Brand name" really have survived having its doors closed for a few months the way a steel mill can? You don't exactly think "This is Republic Steel" when you go buy something made out of steel, you do think "This is a Chevy" when you buy a Chevy. Yes it would have. Hell how many times has Chrysler gone under? How many times have different airlines gone under? How many major banks have been bailed out? The whole bankruptcy equals doom crap is union propaganda that has no basis in reality.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 02:11 PM) If violence was applied as a method of coercion, I could certainly see it meeting that standard. Of course...since right now the only ones who can use violence and intimidation and threats are the ownership of a business trying to prevent unionization, that's fine. Its funny you say that, because right in my home town there is a restarant site that has had to hire 24/7 security and have full time police presence to protect their workers from the attacks and vandalism of the union people protesting the building site. They view it as not only their right, but their obligation to break many laws repeatedly because the ownership group isn't using local union labor.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 07:35 PM) Dude, there's a huge, huge difference between the government putting up $60 billion to finance the bankruptcy and GM shuttering its plants completely as was the option in December pre-bailout. People keep saying that, but it wasn't going to happen. Minus the ginormus debt and labor costs, GM is profitable, and the whole world knows it. Even if it got to liquidation (which it wouldn't) someone would have bought it, and reopened it without all of the burdens, just like many of the steel mills did during the 90's. There are plenty of historical references here.
  15. QUOTE (Wanne @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 07:42 PM) Why do Hawk and Stoney sit so far apart?!? Its been that way at home forever.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 07:46 PM) BTW, Wise is going to be DFA'd in 10 days. He'll get the majority of the playing time this home stand, and then when CQ returns, he gone. It wouldn't surprise me. Right now Pods>>>Wise, and you don't want to keep two LH OFs and no RH, so Anderson stays, plus he is your best defensive OF. Nothing else really makes sense.
  17. QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 07:38 PM) try taking the "u" out of "spalding."
  18. QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 07:36 PM) cause pittsburgh, cincy, milwaukee and St. Louis are flooding wth orgies. Why do you think two of those cities have major breweries in them? There is nothing else to do!
  19. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 05:53 PM) Which is retarded. If I had a dollar for every time I've come across a misguided feeling I'd be earning money in a very weird way. But if the players believe it and gain confidence from it, is it really misguided?
  20. So why is the tone of the Lebron not shaking hands thing worse than Derrick Rose being a cheater?
  21. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 04:58 PM) Can you just buy these for individual games? I thought they had to be bought for the season They can, but they aren't easy to find. Stubhub is a great friend for these seats.
  22. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 12:12 PM) Im sorry, is calling someone stupid some sort of statistical analysis now? Is this some sort of Bearsox PECOTA that I never noticed before? Is that a great way to make your point now? Just a blanket "(person) is stupid, and thats why Josh Fields is getting hits now" and that works for your theories? I did notice you have been calling pitchers/players stupid for a while now, if you would read MY post, you would see that I said "You ALWAYS call people stupid...." Its an opinion, something that you decided, not a fact that pitchers are stupid. Therefore, in your opinion, pitchers are stupid, which is something you made up. So, yeah, BS. Pitchers ARENT stupid IN MY OPINION and most of them could probably run laps around you in the baseball knowledge department. I am with you. I call BS on the BS, BS. Just imaging the emotions of a player to fit your percieved image of him is crap.
  23. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 11:23 AM) They were headed there for a while, and even before that were headed to what amounted to a controlled version of it anyway. Already priced in, and they probably realize its better for the long run anyway. It would have been nice to have not wasted $20 billion to get to the point we all said it would anyway.
  24. Dye and Richard. Buehrle probably has been the best, but getting that contribution out of a guy who you really didn't expect it from has been huge.
