  1. QUOTE (watchtower41 @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 04:29 PM) The Sox have 1 error as a team within the last 10 games. So you are saying we are due?
  2. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 01:29 PM) Jim is hitting .350/.487/.667/1.154 w/ 5 HR, 18 RBI and 17BB/16K over his last 20 games. Just an idea of how huge Jim's bombs have been this year: DATE HR SITUATION RESULT INN LEAD/TIED 4/07: 3R DOWN LEAD 8th * 4/12: 2R TIED LEAD 6th ** 4/19: 1R AHEAD -- 8th 4/22: 1R AHEAD up4 3rd 5/12: 2R TIED LEAD 1st *** 5/12: 2R DOWN LEAD 5th **** 5/18: 2R DOWN TIED 8th ***** 5/25: 3R AHEAD -- 3rd 6/01: 3R TIED LEAD 8th ****** SPRAY CHART: LF: 1 LC: 4 CF: 1 RC: 2 RF: 1 SPLITS: RISP: 45 PA, .286/.422/.714/1.137, 4 HR 24 RBI RISP 2 OUT: 19 PA, .375/.474/.875/1.349, 2 HR 13 RBI CLOSE/LATE: 21 PA, .250/.286/.750/1.036, 3 HR 10 RBI HIGH LVRGE: 30 PA, .296/.367/.778/1.144, 4 HR 15 RBI To piggy back on this thought... SportsCenter mentioned that in his career Thome has 23 homers in the 8th inning or later which ended up being game winners.
  3. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 01:23 PM) ^^^^^^ Average now at .274, and his K rate has dropped some. He needs to take some walks, but also start hitting for power, which is a delicate balance. However, the progress has been steady, and he seems to be adjusting to American ball. I'd guess it's about 50-50 whether he winds up at 3b or in the outfield. I have to imagine this kid is hot on the trail of Carlos Lee. No one is going to ever doubt the bat, but the glove is another story. He is a future LF in the making from the sounds of it.
  4. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 11:55 AM) Yeah he did. Him and Stone spent about 15-20 minutes talking about it last night, showing the loading motion in slow motion and breaking it down Hawk did the most talking. Stone asked him to explain specifically some of the phrases he was using, and they used a slow mo sequence to get into details. They really did spend A LOT of the game talking about the mechanics of Josh's swing.
  5. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 10:43 AM) As of now there will not be a trade winds. When trade winds is open, the main forum is an absolute dead zone outside of game threads. Sox trade rumors are exactly that, rumors, so post them all you want in here, whether its speculation or a true rumor. Afterall, this forum is for White Sox talk. THE GREAT AND WISE GAGE HAS SPOKEN!!! DON'T LOOK BEHIND THE CURTIAN!
  6. QUOTE (rangercal @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 01:53 PM) Dewayne Wise on the roster is the biggest Joke of them all. Frank can't help with his glove Check Wise can't help with his bat Check but... Frank's Bat> Anything Wise can provide. I'd rather be short on outfielders than put that joke of a AAAA player on the field. The only reason Wise is on the roster right now is because of TCQ's injury. In another few days Wise will be choosing between Charlotte or another PCL or IL destination.
  7. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 02:12 PM) Its like streak for the cash except in soxtalk, its streak for the longest period of time without people calling for a firesale Its funny because its true.
  8. The interesting part is that if we were talking about a real world job here, Rose would get fired for lying on his application.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 10:16 AM) What if instead of going after a pitcher, KW is trying to acquire a dynamic young outfielder, and will go after Pence with a package of Poreda, Flowers, etc? Pence was the deal breaker that Kenny insisted be in the Garland deal, which is why it fell apart. It wouldn't surprise me if he was sniffing around a guy like that.
  10. I'd love to see a one day contract signed, complete with a big retirement ceremony, rocking chair, #35 retirement etc. It would be awesome. Beyond that, no thanks.
  11. The big key with all of these kids is to get the pitch counts up. See a lot of pitches, foul off as many as possible, and see the whole arsenal. Make them work, get them into tough spots, and work them out. The more you see, the less "newness" there is in these guys.
  12. Happy Birthday
  13. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 01:19 PM) Well heres something I never knew, from yahoo: http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/ne...o&type=lgns I doubt many normal employers could get away with discrimination based on both age and nationality. Isn't Europes secondary education system very different than ours?
  14. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 08:38 AM) Where would he play? I wouldn't give up to much for a 35 year old shortstop, who will be a free agent next year. And a big time steroider... No thanks.
  15. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ May 31, 2009 -> 01:28 PM) Martin Havlat's recent Twitter post: "Meeting with Dale Tallon for dinner tonight, leaving to Prague tomorrow. FYI, I am NOT putting my condo up for sale (if you get my drift!)." Sounds like a deal should be consummated quickly. It would be great to get Marty back without spending too much, and going too many years. He seems to be a guy who is less afraid in contract years if you get my drift.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 03:49 PM) Tiger Woods? Out of all of the golfers in the world, Tiger is a marvel. He is a guy who can bench over 300 pounds, and has a body fat in the 3% range.
  17. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 10:53 PM) All of Josh's mechanics are messed up. What I noticed tonight was that his load and step are completely out of whack. The basic way of hitting and generating some of the power in your swing is to have a nice balanced swing where your hands go back and you turn your hips while you step forward. While Josh is stepping forward, he is only doing that hitch thing. His hands don't move back and he doesn't turn his hips while his foot is in the air, all he's doing is that hitch where he brings his hands up. By the time he steps down and his foot is on the ground, he then brings his hands back and turns his hips. So, at the time he is suppossed to be coming forward, he's just starting his load, with his foot already being on the ground. All of his mechanics are f***ed up. It's a pity too, cause there's no doubt he's got the tools. I also don't care about him finishing up with 1 hand. I've never believed that really affected your swing. Think about, when you make contact with the ball, it doesn't matter what your swing looks like at the end. You gotta focus on getting that bat through the zone with some velocity and putting a charge in the ball. Whether you finish up with 1 hand or 2 hands on the bat, all that matters is what your swing looks like when you make contact with the ball. EDIT: After re-watching Josh's swing several times in slow-mo, I've changed my original paragraph. Way to steal what Hawk was saying last night...
  18. Thome has been clutch forever. You don't hit 550 homers or drive in 1520 run without it. Heck all you have to do is think back to his Indian days of kicking our asses all over the field to remember it. Just because someone on a message board said he wasn't doesn't mean they are right.
  19. QUOTE (shipps @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 07:45 AM) I dont think I can stomach another kyyle gamethread start.... No offense but hopefully they last until something like the All-Star break.
  20. I don't know if it will be brought back or not. There seems to be one or two threads at a time about trades, hardly enough to really justify a whole other forum. Maybe if things heat up, but as of now, no.
  21. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 09:24 PM) Errors happen. I'm not too worried about it. It's not like he's on pace for 40-50 of them. Now, if he plays 3B exclusively and he's just plain bad, then we have a problem. The problem is that we don't have the most steady defensive team out there already, and a few of our pitchers don't pitch over mistakes well. And with 9 errors that would put him on pace for about the low thirties over a full 162 games
  22. The first players Thome mentions in the post game interview tonight are Pods and Lexi getting on base FWIW.
  23. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 02:41 PM) What a coincidence! I was just starting to wonder what had become of my ex-girlfriend. Does it really count when they are taking out their dentures?
  24. 5 in a row baby!!!
  25. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 07:30 PM) I think a lot of people (including myself) are trying to talk themselves into thinking he's not ready simply because he was drafted just last year, and he hasn't played a certain amount of minor league games. Even Joe Cowley had a Twitter earlier saying Ozzie said "if Beckham comes up, we're in trouble." Well Ozzie, I got news for you. He's ready. I'm not worried about his bat, I am worried about the nine errors he has already in a much slower game at the minor league level.
