Ozzie with his usual empty threats after loss like this
How are Ozzie's threats hollow? How many teams have outright cut two players from their organizations already this year?

Official 2008-2009 NBA Thread
QUOTE (MurcieOne @ May 5, 2009 -> 10:14 PM) this. Tyrus has all the skills to be a good NBA player... but he plays dumb as s***. I just don't see the basketball IQ. I swear the kid is ADD. His level of concentration is just non-exsistant.

Official 2008-2009 NBA Thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 5, 2009 -> 03:44 PM) When one of those coaches is VDN and another of those coaches is Jim Boylan and the third coach resigned after the team totally quit on him...you're not making a strong case. I think the fact that he couldn't even get on the court for either Skiles, nor Del Negro tells me a lot more than anything. Tyrus is a freak of nature, but he can't keep his head into a basketball game enough to be trusted in an important stretch of basketball.

Official 2008-2009 NHL Thread
QUOTE (Brian @ May 5, 2009 -> 07:26 PM) Penalties are obviously killing us so far. Both ways they killed them. When you get two gift, delay of game, penalties, you HAVE to take advantage. Vancouver looked like the home team last night. They really played a great game, and they just owned the passing lanes and shooting lanes, which an incredible number of blocks and tips.

Arlen Specter to switch parties
QUOTE (lostfan @ May 6, 2009 -> 05:03 AM) Liberals hate Lieberman but at least he's sort of almost kind of a Democrat, whereas Specter's going to make the Blue Dogs look like Bernie Sanders. When I first heard about this I got excited because I thought it might actually mean something politically, like maybe accelerating the demise of the GOP so that conservatives can build a meaningful coalition again (still a chance that could happen), but it's not going to mean anything to the Democratic agenda. Maybe he should just run as an independent. Guys like Spector and Lieberman are why we need a real third party in this country. Both parties far wings are proving to go crazy when they get in office, and there is no middle ground to pull them back to. Its either far right, or far left. I really want my out of my bedroom, AND out of my wallet party to come alive one day... I think then we would see some actually progress and compromise in this country.

Official 2008-2009 NBA Thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 5, 2009 -> 10:52 AM) I posted this a page ago and I'll post it again in reply. It's not just him not playing to his potential, it's the fact that taking him out so predictably makes the Bulls a worse team. Two coaches, and counting, now disagree.

Go Away Pods
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 5, 2009 -> 01:45 PM) To be fair, Tyler Flowers could very easily become as valuable or more so than Chris Young has been (or was projected to be). That type of power usually doesn't come from a guy behind the plate. All the Sox have to do is hope he can contribute sooner than Saltalamacchia. Aj is signed through 2011, correct? Flowers has time to develop, and work on that defense!

5/5 Game Thread ➔ Sox @ Royals
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 5, 2009 -> 01:04 PM) Getz 2b Fields 3b Quentin lf Thome dh Dye rf Konerko 1b Pierzynski c Ramirez ss Podsednik cf Again, Betemit is 3-5 with 2 homers against today's opposing starter. Does anyone else see something wrong here? Sure Betemit would get his hits, but I am positive he would give the runs back in the field. I want him no where near third base.

The Republican Thread
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 5, 2009 -> 01:21 PM) But when you hear the chatter our of the RNC, people like Ridge are told to sit down and shut up. Contesting someone who is more to the right wont go over well with Steele. Kinda like Arlen Spector from the Dem's special interest groups?

The Economy, stupid
Question for the general populace... How would a typical Chamber of Commerce be chartered? Would it be as a 501 ©3?

2009 Cubs thread
QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ May 5, 2009 -> 01:42 PM) Samardjia (sp?) could be one of the most overhyped players ever. I remember ESPN wetting themselves over that signing. The kid has an arm, but much like Poreda, he needs his innings to develop his secondary pitches. It was stupid to bring him up to be a middle reliever. All it is doing is stunting his growth.

Contreras on alert
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 5, 2009 -> 01:01 PM) It doesn't say anything of the sort. Its from the Daily Herald and Scott Gregor, the guy who said KW would put a waiver claim on Luis Vicianco and instead of just handing him over the Cubs would send over some money to pay him as well. It just says he will start looking at guys like Byrd, Pedro, Garcia and Odalis Perez. So it was worthless speculation in other words. Thanks.

Arlen Specter to switch parties
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 5, 2009 -> 11:08 AM) The unofficial, formerly official people in the party, and some of the unions, are openly applying primary pressure threats to Specter. I think the message there is starting to become pretty clear, he's in trouble on this side if he doesn't do something to make the Unions happy. Which is exactly how the party of inclusion has done business for decades, and continues to do it to this day. Its not a coincidence that they are already targeting their own members who are too moderate and conservative to be run against in their primary elections.

KW should be embarassed
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 5, 2009 -> 10:39 AM) Are you really arguing that Ryan Sweeney is a better hitter then Josh Fields? You sure you wanna go that direction? That would be a tough choice to make if it wasn't for Fields power. He really seems to be showing he isn't much of a hitter so far in his career.

KW should be embarassed
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 5, 2009 -> 09:37 AM) It's just the prevailing term (it might as well be Corpseball) for the tendencies of MOST of our offensive players over the last decade...of course, no hitting coach will say something like they prefer their players to all be like Thome (unless it's a ball hit to the OF). That would mean a major league record for strikeouts and balls hit off the end of the bat because of not covering the outside 1/3rd of the plate. Actually most hitting coaches wouldn't mind players working like Thome, as he is a master at hitting the ball hard up the middle and the other way. He actually hits most of his homers in those directions, and not to RF.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ May 5, 2009 -> 09:37 AM) The greatest thing Tesla gave us was the band "Tesla". Signs, signs everywhere the signs. Who needs alternating current!

KW should be embarassed
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 5, 2009 -> 09:32 AM) So it's the hitters simply tuning him out and not listening that usually results in the "secondary/role" players never following this philosophy? The Big 4 will get their share of K's, HR's and RBI's. You live with it...and the home park you play in. But that doesn't explain the other 9-10 players on a roster. So I take it you haven't seen it actually said by Walker anywhere?
-
KW should be embarassed
OK, PLEASE find me one time where Greg Walker has emphasized "lift and pull" anywhere to a player. This keeps getting repeated ad naseum, but I swear everytime I hear him speak about hitting, he is always talking about up the middle, and the other way. I'd love to see a video clip or article where he ACTUALLY talks about turning hitters into uppercut, dead pull hitters.

The Economy, stupid
QUOTE (bmags @ May 5, 2009 -> 07:59 AM) read this last night, seemed encouraging: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124148189109785317.html I will say this much... The Obama admin has finally learned how to handle screwing Wall Street a little better. At the start they would have just done this and released the info, and what ever happened, happened. Now they are leaking the bad news out in little bits, and they were smart enough to delay the release of the full report until the banks could raise enough capital that the brunt of the report should be taken out of the market.

Really Cool story on Nikola Tesla building
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 5, 2009 -> 08:04 AM) Tesla was 50 years ahead of his time. At least. Personally I am guessing that our scientists don't understand what Tesla was trying to do here, and that is why they don't think it would work...

Official 2008-2009 NBA Thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 4, 2009 -> 05:24 PM) If Tyrus and Noah can each add just a little bit of weight/strength, and we are smart about how we use either the MLE or Aaron Gray, I still think TT/Noah can work as an excellent front court. The problems are; 1. Our coaches refuse to play TT, and think that the small lineup is the way to go under all circumstances... and 2., the biggest guys (Dwight Howard) can just outmuscle us, and we're not good enough on offense yet to use our quickness to either draw them away from the basket or get them in foul trouble. I still think what we have in these 2 guys can work excellently well alongside Rose, Deng, and Gordon, I think we saw some of that working effectively this year (particularly as Rose develops as a distributor of the ball)...but if we're always going to bench TT, or if we're not smart about how we run things, then finding someone else is better than trying it our way. I'd love to see that lineup develop together for 5 years, but it doesn't work if you think Rose is better at guarding PF's than Thomas. So how many coaches will dwindle Ty's playing time before we start to realize that Ty just isn't going to realize his potential?
