Surprise!... Hamas Supporters Use Children as Human Shields
QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 12, 2009 -> 12:55 PM) I think he means by Western governments, the strongest thing that is ever said to Israel is a glorified "hey guys can you try not to do that, thanks, if it's too much trouble no big deal though" when they get rebuked. Ah, that I could understand.

The Democrat Thread
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 12, 2009 -> 01:01 PM) I can think of no one who did that, and I don't recall anyone in 2001 blaming the economy on Bush. I'm sure there were a few haters who did - the kind of people who like to hate on everything and anything. Except, I'd like to think we are all smarter than that here. Bush was no more at fault for the 2001 economy than Obama would be in 2009. I argued with MANY people on here who STILL call the 2001 recession the Bush recession.

Rod Blagojevich officially facing federal corruption charges
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 12, 2009 -> 12:32 PM) Oh, there were definitely locals that cooperated, I am sure of it. But I actually believe that Fitzgerald tends to go for big wins - big fish, but also easy-to-catch ones. He's shown he's not really one for political favor jobs. And the Feds have, in fact, investigated Daley, continue to do so, and some of his cronies have fallen victim. I wouldn't even call it a political favor, as much as I would call it being much easier to chase down someone who you have information being fed to you about, versus someone who no one will sell out. The whole state hates Blago, so I am sure they had plenty of people chasing down Fitzgerald to give up what they knew about him. I doubt the samething happens with Daley and Stroger, which also makes it much hard to take those kind of people down.

The Democrat Thread
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 11, 2009 -> 08:47 PM) Its funny... I've seen this argument used about Iraq. The Iraq war was a cluster f*** and perhaps shouldn't have happened at all, but once there, you had to fight your way to a certain level of success before walking away. Will those same Republicans who used that logic, use the same to defend Obama here? Heck no, I am waiting for March 1st so I can blame the entire economy on Obama, just like was done to Bush in 2001

Obama's Cabinet and Staff
QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jan 10, 2009 -> 05:41 PM) Controversy ensues. Gupta disagreed with Michael Moore on Health care and debated Mr. Moore on CNN. The left wing is angry at the appointment. Apparently it was over universal health care which Gupta took the arguments of Moore's film and argued against them. I would kind of surprised if Obama really did want someone against universal coverage in office.

Rod Blagojevich officially facing federal corruption charges
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 11, 2009 -> 02:04 PM) Actually, I'd suggest he got impeached beacuse he was particularly stupid and corrupt, even compared to other politicians. It was just too obvious. As an added bonus, he was incompetent as a governor, and had zero clue how to interface with a legislative body. All that combined to be his doom. Just remember though, the Feds did this investigation. He didn't piss them off, there was no relationship there at all. They went after him because he was so blatant and obvious. Stupid? Yes. Corrupt? I don't buy it. I know the Feds did this investigation, but I fully believe that there were forces behind behind it. I am sure there were a whole lot more people willing to cooperate and give information in this mess, than say investigating a Rich Daley.

The Republican Thread
QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 12, 2009 -> 09:50 AM) Like what, say, Israel? His stance on that is not much different from Bush's, if at all. On other stuff, if he said more, I'm 100% positive he'd get criticized for upstaging the current president/being a prima donna. I'd just like some consistancy. I could respect that. Don't insult people's intelligence by using one excuse in one case, and then do the exact opposite in something that is not as politically poisonous.

Surprise!... Hamas Supporters Use Children as Human Shields
QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jan 12, 2009 -> 10:41 AM) Both are to blame. The problem is that when Hamas fires a rocket into Israel they are condemned and rightfully so. Whe Israel fires rockets into schools in Gaza nothing is said. Saying that I have no answers on this. It can seem so endless. Nothing is said?? What news are you watching?

Freddy Garcia speculation (Closed - Garcia Signs W/Mets)
QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jan 12, 2009 -> 10:43 AM) I think Freddy would obviously have to show us that he is completely healthy, and can reach at least the high 80's, if not more, velocity wise. But I'd probably rather go with him to at least start the season, than say Marquez or Poreda. Those 2 probably need more time in AAA, hence why Garcia could be a good stop-gap option. Not to mention he seems to be able to win, even if he is topping out at 88-90.

Bradley signs with Cubs 3 yr/30M
I mentioned this on facebook while Soxtalk was down, but the Cubs managed to give Sammy's old number 21 to Milton Bradley. The Cubs, as always, stay classy.

Rod Blagojevich officially facing federal corruption charges
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 11, 2009 -> 10:05 AM) If Blago is convicted by the Senate, 10 puppies will die. An embarrassing episode for Illinois, but in the long run, perhaps this will help clean things up a little. Not nearly enough of course, but, a little. It won't. The only reason he got impeached was because he pissed off the wrong people. When you look at guys like Daley and Stroger who are just as much, if not more crooked, and still get to be in office unscathed, that saids it all to me.

The Republican Thread
So I thought we only had one President when it came to forgein policy? If so why is Biden going to places like Pakistan and Afghanistan? Its nice to see Obama is already going to duck all of the tough politics to hide behind Bush.

Baseball America White Sox Top 10 Prospects
QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jan 6, 2009 -> 10:40 AM) Sure would be nice if all these guys would work out, and then we can just use FA dollars on pitching. EDIT: Man, even if that worked out we'd still need a leadoff hitter and/or cf. There is about a zero percent chance of that actually happening. I would say best case scenario is about 4 of those guys become everyday major leaguers.

Freddy Garcia speculation (Closed - Garcia Signs W/Mets)
According to Phil Rogers of the Trib, don't be surprised if Freddy signs a one year, non-guaranteed deal with the White Sox.

Bradley signs with Cubs 3 yr/30M
If he couldn't handle the KC media without wanting to go up to the pressbox, Chicago is going to be a really fun place for him... I wonder if he will try and fight a reporter or teammate first. This signing almost makes me wish Jay Mariotti was still around.

Gavin Floyd for Brian Roberts discussed
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 6, 2009 -> 02:34 PM) Got this from www.orioleshangout.com: Scott Garceau just reported on 105.7 the FAN that a deal that sends B-Rob could possibly include Jermaine Dye coming back along with Floyd. FWIW.... Maybe if Melvin Mora was included and we signed Bobby Abreu...

Teacher Certification Help
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 6, 2009 -> 02:36 PM) Do you remember how long it took or how many classes it was? It depends on how "into" the program you get. If she isn't working, she can get it done in about a year. If she is working, it will be more like 3. The big question mark is student teaching, which they will let you do for a semester if you can go into a classroom under someone else, or if you are a teacher already, it would be 3 years of actual teaching. I never understood how being a teacher is worth 1/6 of being a real teacher, but that is how the program is set up. The classes themselves can be done in a minimal amount of time. The nice thing is that the classes to work around the "normal" teachers schedule, so if she is working, she can continue to do so. The link is below if you she is interested. http://www.calumet.purdue.edu/education/tr...each/index.html

Teacher Certification Help
I don't know if they work with future Illinois teachers, but Purdue Calument in Hammond has a program my wife went through for exactly this.
