Your second place Chicago White Sox
Just wanted to throw a couple of things out here... #1 For those who like to throw judgements out on player, posters, the team etc, don't be surprised when the same stick gets applied to measure yourself. If you don't like the spotlight on yourself, you probably shouldn't be so eager to shine it on others. #2 This is a board of Sox fans. People want to see the Sox win because they enjoy it. Most people like to take the positive experience out of stuff, and leave the negative behind. Why dwell on the bad parts of something that is supposed to provide entertainment, not to make up your lives. I know for a small vocal minority, being a fan means that a loss has to ruin your life, but most don't have time, nor the desire, to play that type of drama queen. #3 If there is a problem with the people on this board, or the way that it is run, there are other options for your posting enjoyment. No one is forced to stay here. Heck if it seems so easy to manage 4000+ posters and nearly 2 million posts, feel free to make a run at it yourself. #4 Don't forget the rules of personal attacks and the like. The whole reason that these exist is to make the experience here open, but respectful to some extent. You don't have to like the post or the person delivering the message, but you can't attack them. Also, just because you edit a post, doesn't mean you get away with the attack. In fact in the end, it is only going to make things worse, because then one of us has to dig into the database if the post gets reported, and that will only piss that person off more. #5 As always, we are open to discussion of whatever is going on here. You can feel free to vent on the board, IM, email, or PM. Contact your favorite mod/admin with comments, concerns, ideas etc.

Griffey leaves game
The heat index is 111 degrees. Cramping isn't unusual in those circumstances. Its very easy to dehydrate.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!!
QUOTE (MEANS @ Aug 2, 2008 -> 07:56 AM) maybe Griff can teach our home run swinging guys a thing or two, with his approach last night? nice job JR.!!! welcome to the sox. and grape A-Treat is the BOMB!!!!! I think you saw the most important thing Griff could teach our team, and that is being cool in the clutch. He has no fear of two outs or two strikes. If he could pass some of that around, look out baseball.

The Internet Comes to Armour Square Park: Softball game article
QUOTE (dasox24 @ Aug 2, 2008 -> 02:41 AM) Kind of makes me want to make it up for next year's game, though the small turnout is a turnoff since I'd be making a long trip to do so... I think the best arguement for that is all of the people except one from last year played again this year. We had 9 people turnout dispite the nasty weather (up from 5 last year), and we still played and had a helluva a time. I can't wait to do it again.

Bayh/Obama?
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 12:18 PM) I agree with AHB here, I want a story! I thought I had told this story before... Back in the early 90's during the a big school funding crisis, we got picked to page for Mary Kay Budak as a group from Elston High School. As a stroke of luck Mrs Budak got us into see then-Governor Bayh to supposedly talk about our concerns for school funding. We were supposed to get 5 minutes, and then leave when he was done. We got into his office OK, but instead of talking about schools, he got busy talking about the decorations of his office, which first lady bought this painting... blah, blah, blah. Finally after about 3 minutes of this, someone who was running out of patience (me) interupted him and told him that the history was interesting, but we wanted to see him because of our school funding concerns. He gave a quick BS answer about doing everything he could do, and we were out of his office in about 30 seconds. Then this is the part where things got interesting. We had brought a banner with us asking the gov not to enact the cuts, that the kids from one of the local elemetary school. We took it and hung it from one of the second floor balconies, until the governor's security force showed up and so kindly informed us that we either had to leave the capitol or face being arrested. We were also informed as we made our way out of the doors, that we weren't welcome to come back! I made sure to vote against Bayh all three times I have had the chance.

Bayh/Obama?
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 11:59 AM) Heh. Funny, you put Bayh first in the thread title. He'll always be first in my book.... First Governor to throw me out of his office...

The Democrat Thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 11:44 AM) The banks and their lobbyists will do everything, and I mean EVERYTHING in their power to prevent any new restrictions from appearing on their lending of credit at usurious interest rates to people who shouldn't be taking out such big loans. Like giving Senators $75,000 discounts on home loans?

The Democrat Thread
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 11:43 AM) And see, there is a key there - the loan dependency is a definite issue, but I actually think the belt tightening on loans will be a good thing in the long run. People get loans on too many things, and run up credit card bills for too many others. If it gets harder to do that, there will be an ugly interim adjustment period, but then people will simply not be able to stretch as far, and that's actually good. I just don't think this is like the pre-depression days here. I don't see it. I am not saying IT IS, I am saying if you keep committing the same mistakes that turned into the Great Depression, you will probably end up in another one. The first big difference is that the Fed Bank has already reacted in making sure that liquidity is maintained to some extent. But on the other hand the disruption need to sidetrack the economy is smaller than it was then too.

The Democrat Thread
QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 11:15 AM) I agree, but only to an extent - personally, I think that minimum wage laws should have a floor, but me legistlated from the state level and not the federal. A $10.50 minimum wage will hit harder in Nebraska then it would in New York, or Illinois. Different areas of the country have different needs and can absorb it differently. That I totally agree with. Its yet another thing that needs to be state based.

The Democrat Thread
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 10:59 AM) OK, see, that's the opposite of logical to me. Which means I must be missing something in what you are saying. Can you clarify? People today are totally dependant on the banks loaning money today. Typically people have car loans, student loans, mortgages, credit cards, consumer loans etc. That didn't happen in the 30's. The banking sector collapse reverberated through the economy big time back then, even when most people did not need the banks like they do today. Banking liquidity has a much larger affect on today's world.

2008 White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 10:26 AM) I think this is interesting, since I see some people post in here that attitude, personality and chemistry don't have an effect on teams. I find that a little ridiculous - like people think its a video game. Here we see how much effect those things can and do have, admitedly in the extreme in this case. Manny Ramirez, all star caliber player, and yet the team wanted him gone. For the people who laugh at things like chemistry and personality conflicts being important, you just had one of the shining examples of Bill James-ness dump a numbers guy because he was a tool.
