When you consider the price of out of the money options as compared to the risk of energy volatility historically, why wouldn't you hedge? Its stupid not to, especially in this day and age.

Stocks and investing thread
Here is something interesting I picked up last night Southwest airlines (LUV) is 70% hedged against their 2008 estimated fuel costs at $51 a barrel of oil. In 2009, they are 55% estimated hedged at $51 bbl. They also have fuel hedges set up through 2013.

Orlando Cabrera Calls Press Box to Complain During Game
There you go. That's leadership from Guillen, once again taking the pressure off of Cabrera. If Cabrera doesn't respect Guillen, he can catch the next train out of town as far as I am concerned.

McClellan: Bush misled U.S. on Iraq
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 28, 2008 -> 06:34 PM) What, the realization that this was one President you couldn't trust? Lol. For all of the Presidents we have had over the last generations that you could trust...

Is Google unpatriotic?
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 28, 2008 -> 03:30 PM) I'm pretty sure we had a Memorial Day Thread though In fact, in the early days of SoxNet/Soxtalk, we actually closed our site in honor of 9/11 and had links to Red Cross sites. No one can ever not call Soxtalk unpatriotic That said, I think nothing of the sort with google not putting something up. Soxtalk has always had the human factor involved in its operations. We have always encouraged people doing things like charity work to share their attempts, and usually we help out with them. When there is disaster in the world, we have tried to do our little contributions to help. Even when individuals have problems, we all pitch in to offer advice, or any other aide that we can, unlike lots of other people and sites. As a site, we have a very good group of people. Especially when you look around even some closely related sites, and realize that many could care less about the people who are involved in their very existance. The humanitarianism of Soxtalk probably the thing that I am most proud this place for.

Dunkin Donuts - Ad is Too Arab-ish
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 28, 2008 -> 03:39 PM) Their problem is shipping. Israel makes it very difficult to move supplies, raw materials, and products between their territory and the sea or airports. About the only things that seem to get in are, well, weapons. Then again if they weren't working so hard to get weapons in, the rest of the stuff would be a lot easier.

$10 per gallon gas
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 28, 2008 -> 03:14 PM) The problem with the 2nd generation Prius is that 100MPG hype is just that. I've read numerous articles that the 100MPG ratings are based on an outdated rating system and the reality is your talking about a 46-60 MPG automobile. Again, that is great mileage, but it isn't a significant improvement over the first generation. The better idea is to start getting these rolled out in all the product lines to the point that the companies can reach economy of scale which lowers the payback period of these vehicles (as a lot of hybrids still aren't wise fiscal purchases for those that don't plan on keeping a car for 5 or 6 years). In addition, I don't want a f***ing Prius, so if I have the option to get that sort of milegae in a car I like, good. GM does this with the Hybrid Tahoe, but again, it is so much more than the standard one. I think Hybrid will be the gap until we develop good battery power and at that point, we won't need filling stations or anything (we'll have batteries which can power a vehicle for hundreds of miles at a time and take very little time to recharge). Again, this is a bit into the future, but a lot of the capabilities are there. That isn't what Bill Clinton told me...

Help a Soxtalker Out!
QUOTE (Texsox @ May 28, 2008 -> 02:23 PM) I will make another donation after my camp gets underway. It will be in by August 1. You should be able to count on your friends, and we're all friends here. Except for me. I always felt threatened by his asskickingness.

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ May 28, 2008 -> 02:20 PM) 6-1 v. Cleveland in the last 7, 3-1 at the Prog or Jake whatever it goes by. Sox Win. I prefer the "half empty". The bandwagon really emptied there after the 90's.

Dunkin Donuts - Ad is Too Arab-ish
QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ May 28, 2008 -> 01:55 PM) LIke all things in the middle east, they have meaning, to someone. Palastinians have associated this scarf with martyrdom and other acts of violence. So, in this twisted world we live in, if allowing a religious group to hold a meeting in a school gym is 'endorsing religion', can't wearing of this scarf be seen as 'endorsing jihad'? I think both observations are overboard, but if one is ok, why not the other? On a different note, I am suprised that Huffpo linked Townhall. Must have slipped past the censors. The big difference is that one is being done in a public facility, the other in the private sector. Dunkin Donuts can "endorse" anything they want. If they really wanted they could have Rachel Ray wear a set of Klan robes and a Nazi cross. They are free to do what they please.

Has anyone called out Eric Wedge for running a Sunday line up out there with a chance to win the series against the team in first place? They have exactly one guy in the line up hitting over .260 right now. Oops make that two.

Dunkin Donuts - Ad is Too Arab-ish
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 28, 2008 -> 01:02 PM) I have a policy, if I go to a restaurant and the person behind the counter doesn't speak English, i never go back. When I used to got to school downtown I would occasionally stop at Dunkin' for breakfast. one day i walked in the woman behind the counter had NO idea how to understand english. i never went back. In Downtown Chicago, that is one hell of a diet plan.

With a 100 pitch count limit, and Thome leading off, I imagine we will be seeing Perez to start the 6th.

The bunt would be the optimal play against a guy who is a ground ball pitcher to stay out of the DP. Too bad Cabrera couldn't handle it. I will take the walk though.

Positive Catch All
I'd be remiss if I didn't mention Wasserman's effort last night. That was huge to save the pen after the 12 inning game the night before, not to mention Buehrle sucking it up and not getting knocked out early after a disaster of a first inning.

Who gives a s*** how they advertise, even if it was on purpose. Even if the ad was in arabic, I don't care.

Firefighters Being Fired For Not Speaking Spanish
Both of your posts are exactly right historically. 1st generations never really bothered to learn English, or leave their own neighborhoods. Its usually the 2nd and 3rd that assimilate. But its also very true that the government made no accomidations for other people. If you wanted governmental service, usually the kids were brought down to the local office to translate.

Alexei full-time at second base?
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 28, 2008 -> 10:52 AM) The thing that bugs me is that he'll go from making a very smart play, like pulling back the bat on a bunt and singling over the head of the drawn in infield, to making a dumb play the next day, like not counting the number of outs. That's what I am talking about. Why would you swing full strength on a hit and run? Things like that. There just seems to be something missing there. Maybe he was used to being a star in Cuba and he didn't have to worry about details, but here that s*** doesn't fly.
