Lets Give Floyd a Standing Ovation
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 7, 2008 -> 11:58 AM) To be fair, most people don't put something they love on the line with their guarantees. Judging by your absurd, near 40,000 post count, you'll go into withdrawal if you actually live up to your word. OK now I draw the line at questioning peoples post counts

Lets Give Floyd a Standing Ovation
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 7, 2008 -> 11:55 AM) I think that Floyd not going for k's and instead letting hitters get themselves out has been one reason why hes doing better. Instead of trying to make perfect pitches, he makes good pitches. Great post. I would add one word, and that is consistant, good pitches. That in a nutshell is the Don Cooper philosophy for pitching. I really do believe it is why the Sox see so many fewer pitching injuries than most teams do, and I think it is why we seem to do pretty well in general with reclamation projects. Granted you can always point to specific failures, but no one can reach everyone (mike mcdougal I am looking at you). I think there is a reason the Sox target down on their luck "stuff" type pitchers. I can't say that I really argue with the results in the big picture.

All Things Pro-Hillary
QUOTE (lostfan @ May 7, 2008 -> 11:12 AM) At this point, who hasn't? All 3 of the candidates have done it at some point. And with all the focus on the Democratic primaries and the media mostly ignoring McCain for the time being, could you imagine if it had been Hillary or Obama with one of McCain's major slip-ups? Or if this were the general? It's only as big of a deal as the media makes it out to be. I'm definately not saying the other candidates and their proxies haven't screwed up at one point or another. The problem with McCain is that he is saying stupid things when no one cares about. Once Hillary is out of the race, that will change.

Lets Give Floyd a Standing Ovation
QUOTE (fathom @ May 7, 2008 -> 11:28 AM) Yep, just like how we should go through every trade thread and say anyone who liked the Garland trade was stupid or who thought Swisher was a great acquisition was wrong. Of course, people that only comment on what other people have to say never have to worry about old posts being bumped where their opinion on a player was stated. A little sensative today aren't we? My opinion is in there, in case you were worried

White Sox Clubhouse and Sex Dolls
QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ May 7, 2008 -> 11:13 AM) Morrisey's take I like the Clemens "quote" the best. Anyways, this is why I like Morrisey. He has a very common sense approach to writing, instead of being either a complete anti-everything, or a shill. He is a writer I really look forward to reading.

Lets Give Floyd a Standing Ovation
QUOTE (fathom @ May 7, 2008 -> 10:39 AM) What in the world are you talking about? I didn't edit anything about Gavin. I just think it's stupid when people start bumping old posts. I am sure you do think it is stupid, because it usually involves you saying something negative about a player on the Sox.

All Things Pro-Hillary
QUOTE (Soxy @ May 7, 2008 -> 10:42 AM) I actually disagree--I think they have all the dirt on Clinton they will get. But who knows what they will find with Obama. And, this is pure speculation from me, but I think his wife might be a campaign liability. I could see that. There have been a couple of times where she has stuck her foot in her mouth already. She has been much quieter for a while now though.

White Sox Clubhouse and Sex Dolls
QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ May 7, 2008 -> 09:44 AM) Meeting with the media before the White Sox played Minnesota, general manager Kenny Williams joined Konerko in trying to bring some levity to the controversy. "I will assure major-league baseball that the doll was not violated in any way, shape or form," Williams said. Taking a serious turn, Williams said the stunt was "disappointing." "We have proactively tried to, and just did so this spring training, organizationally, we brought in some people to discuss a better work environment, whether it's gender issues or racial issues," he said. "And we had some very healthy discussions, so from that respect it is very disappointing. But also I don't view this as a boys being boys-type issue. This is, you know, boys being a little bit careless, a little bit irresponsible on this front." Williams stopped short of making an all-out apology. "If my acknowledgment just now does not suffice as an understanding of the sensitivity of the subject, I don't know what is," the Sox' GM said. "I don't know what a formal apology on behalf of the club is going to do, other than me assuring everyone we are on top of it and we addressed the issue." The most interesting thign about the TV interview is that Kenny said NO ONE contacted him about this story before they printed to see what the Sox were doing about, even though people just assumed they were doing nothing. That is quality reporting, not that I expect that from the tabloid that is the Sun Times.

All Things Pro-Obama
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 7, 2008 -> 09:27 AM) It's my personal choice. I have zero interest in John McCain. I am not going to spend hundreds of dollars and take time off work to support a pro-war, pro-choice, Bush surrogate. I can go visit D.C. some other time. EDIT: It's a big difference going to see a politician speak at the local university and flying your family to D.C. for 5 days to see a politician speak. You are right it is a big difference. The chance for an inuagural visit is WAY more important than seeing someone speak locally. If you have the means, I don't see why you would pass it up for partisian reasons. If I had the chance to go to a Hillary or Barack inuaguration, I wouldn't pass it up, that is for sure. To me it isn't "supporting" them. It is being a part of a historical event.

All Things Pro-Obama
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 7, 2008 -> 09:15 AM) Nope. I'll probably change my tickets for a Miami trip. That's kinda sad actually. No matter who it is, it is still the President of the United States of America. You don't pass up that kind of a chance just because you don't like the person elected. I couldn't stand Bill Clinton and almost everything he stood for, but I still took the chance to go see him speak in person. Its something that should be bigger than politics if you ask me.

For Dems only.
I voted for Huckabee yesterday in the primary. Doesn't mean there is a chance in hell I am voting for Obama in the general election.

HDMI Help
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 7, 2008 -> 08:03 AM) I recommend Samsung to any and everyone. With a 32", make sure you get a 720p and not a 1080p. There is no difference in the two until you are over 40." I have nothing special with my cable, just the digital HD DVR package. Just make sure you tell them "I want ESPN" so you dont wind up with just the local channels in HD. That'll give you: 173 ESPN HD 174 MOJO HD (CSN + games are on this channel) 183 WCIU HD 192 WGN HD 200 CSN HD 204 ESPN 2 HD As well as all the other necessities like Food Network, USA, TNT, TBS, FOX, CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN etc etc. It's the only package you'll really need, bc it covers all HD channels other than premium (Showtime, HBO, etc). Sweet. Thanks Steve!

HDMI Help
Well while this thread is up... The wife and I are planning on being good Amerians and buying a new HD with the stimulus check here soon. We want something in the 32" variety, because that is the biggest we can go and still keep the entertainment center. Any recomendations? Then question number two becomes for people who have Comcast, what cable package does it take to be able to get Sox games in HD? Thanks, I'll hang up and listen for your answer

J4L is headed for the slammer
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 6, 2008 -> 07:57 PM) I hear you loud and clear, SS. That night was pretty much the worst mistake I've ever made. I haven't gone anywhere near a car when hammered since then. Good to hear. Learn your lesson and come away a better person for it. That is the most important thing you can do with this situation.

All Things Pro-Obama
QUOTE (KipWellsFan @ May 6, 2008 -> 11:29 PM) You guys are such Debbie Downers. Of course Obama won't be that much different from the past but using some random link from a random supporter to make your point? Relax. The position change doesn't bother me as the methodology behind it. Having your little proxy attack dogs dig up quotes from 16 years ago is a page straight out of the James Carville/Karl Rove playbook. It tells me that for all of the "change" that is being talked about, we are already seeing the Obama camp desend into "more of the same".

Personality
An interesting study I ran accross yesterday, that might be germaine to this topic. It seems that areas that have no smoking laws have lower smoker rates, than those that don't. Is being around something a simple way to make more people believe it is OK to do? It seems that simply being around something that could kill you, is enough to make more people think it is OK to do. That kinda makes are arguement that there is some level of influence http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5g7jLztC...Bh5XKAD90FP7500

$10 per gallon gas
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 6, 2008 -> 11:09 PM) Too late. I walked from the Fullerton red line stop to home just now, passing 3 gas stations, and they were all above $4 for regular. Sorry I was going by the national average, which was in the mid 3.60's last I knew.

Indiana / North Carolina primary election thread
LOL. I didn't watch the exchange but if the Hammond and Gary mayors were talking to each other about corruption, that is freaking hilarious! Throw in East Chicago and you have the 3 most corrupt cities in Indiana. They probably were both vote fixing, because that crap happens all of the time there. Anyways, I am shocked at the turnout that Obama got in Indiana. I would have never guessed it would be that close, but I guess it makes sense with all of the money that Obama spent here. He blanketed the state like I have never seen anyone do before.

Lets Give Floyd a Standing Ovation
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ May 6, 2008 -> 09:30 PM) Pisses me off that if Anderson is in CF like he should have been in that spot, he'd be one out from a no hitter. MEH!! However, as for Gavin, he's been great all year and was again tonight. Kudos. LOL. I don't ever want to hear about the media generating controversy again... you all can do it plenty fine on your own!

Lets Give Floyd a Standing Ovation
What an incredible preformance by Gavin. I really liked seeing the effort to keep it going by Swish, and the fact that right away Floyd wanted the ball back and to keep going. Damn good job kid
