All Things Pro-Obama
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 29, 2008 -> 07:57 AM) SUSA seems to be an huge outlier for IN. No other poll shows a Clinton lead, let alone a 10 point lead. By the way fathom, there is an Indiana primary thread, which I will rename the IN/NC thread, where you can find these poll results. I'll put some of the latest ones up there. It will be interesting to say the least. I think Indiana depends on turnout in rural areas. There is a HUGE divide between rural Indiana and urban Indiana. I'll bet Obama carries NW IN by 20 points. Once you get into Indy and Ft Wayne, things might change. There is big support for Hillary in the uneducated white population, which is a very large portion of the state. These are also the types of people who aren't going to be the easiest to poll either. Obama will probably get beat 2:1 or even 3:1 in these areas, if I had to guess. There are some minority populations centers in IN, but it isn't much. They are mainly concentrated in the cities and are much easier to get ahold of. I think Indiana will suprise towards Clinton.

For GOP only
More good news for McCain. It seems that the longer this goes on, the less likely that people backing one of the Dem candidates are likely to vote for the other if they are the nominee. http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5gIux4Z1...3EWwIAD90BCVC80

$10 per gallon gas
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 28, 2008 -> 09:15 PM) There isn't enough oil in Alaska to make a dent in this issue. Even if ANWR had been attacked by drillers 15 years ago and was at peak production right now, it wouldn't make a shred of difference. Any additional savings that would exist would have been eaten up by additional consumption growth in China and India. You'd be surprised how untrue that actually is. It takes a very small movement in supply or demand in energies to create wild price fluxuations. The oil crisis of the 70's was brought about by only a 15% reduction in supply, which led to a tripling/quadrupling of prices. If supply had only fallen by say 10%, what is to say that prices would have only doubled? Its not a big leap a faith to think that a very small supply increase from anywhere (not just Alaska) could have moderated price increases greatly.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 28, 2008 -> 02:42 PM) Has anyone even heard an update on Richar? I never thought I'd say it, but it'd be REALLY good to get Danny fockin' Richar in the lineup. He was supposed to be ready to start a rehab stint around the first of May... I haven't heard anything new in a while though.

QUOTE (Cowch @ Apr 28, 2008 -> 02:00 PM) Yuck. I hate to be so similar to Baltimore. I can't believe Vazquez has the same ERA as that guy. I like the most important thing we have in common with them... In first place in their division.

Indiana voter ID laws upheld
QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Apr 28, 2008 -> 11:30 AM) Cash a check, get a job, get into a bar, buy beer, take out a loan, obtain a lease, open a bank account, if you are detained by the police, .... Most of the voter ID laws contain provisions to waive the ID fees for people who cannot pay. If they do this, there is pretty much no "poll tax" arguement. At that point, I have no problem with it, and actually applaud it. I see no problems with taking steps to insure the integrity of our electoral system.

Saturday Night Observations
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 28, 2008 -> 09:06 AM) People my age are freaking idiots. The pressure to look like you are rolling for some reason has never been higher. Trendy, expensive s*** is seen as a necessity rather than something that you indulge in once in a while. Getting hammered for $100-$200 every Friday/Saturday night is the norm. My friend, who lives in a two bedroom apartment with a guy he barely knows, just bought a 23k Chevy Trailblazer. Great decision, with gas prices where they are... let's not think about saving up for a downpayment on a home, let's buy a freaking Trailblazer. My wife and I cringe when we think of all our friends that blow their money on superfluous s***. I've got two friends who spent more than 5k on Cubs tickets the first day they went on sale just so they could be posers. One of them admittedly so. Seriously, most of my friends have no idea what it is to be responsible financially, and it's depressing. At least my wife and I have it figured out. Its not just people in one age bracket. Look at the national savings rate, and that will tell you everything you need to know. Now I am off to buy powerball tickets.

Reed Johnson
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Apr 27, 2008 -> 09:06 PM) .773 OPS and 104 OPS+ He gets on base via the leaning elbow (5 HBP all of which were fastballs just off the inside corner that nicked his elbow guard) and hits singles. Fun player. Carlos Quentin's OPS is over 220 point higher that Mr Johnson's. I'll even go a step further and say I would rather have Brian Anderson out there versus Reed Johnson.

UNDER AGE DRINKERS BEWARE!
QUOTE (The Beast @ Apr 28, 2008 -> 08:39 AM) What rules am I breaking? Please show me some proof from the ballpark rules. How does that even compare to underaged drinking? Here is two for you right away... I'll be honest, I probably shouldn't have responded to you initially, because I know what is going to happen, but the attitude of utter contempt that you have towards anyone who doesn't act the way you feel they should is just bad. You got had to make a point of calling out everyone about the bad calls in the Cleveland series, and how they talked about the umpires for enforcing the rules, yet here you are acting JUST like the same people you called out in that thread. The irony is that you don't see it as any different. You have every rationale and excuse for why it is OK for you, and how it is different. I view it as complete hypocrisy.

2008 White Sox Catch-All Thread
a little old from the Yankees series, but still freaking hilarious.

For GOP only
It was interesting. I watched bits and pieces around another show. He seemed to hold his own pretty well, and effectively ducked the questions that he didn't want to answer. There was nothing earthshattering. The interesting duck was when he asked him about his assertation that he was a person who worked on bi-partisian issues and to give an example of an important piece of legislation that he crossed the aisle on.

For GOP only
Did anyone else catch the highlights of the correspondents dinner with George Bush? He was pretty darned funny, especially when he was explaining why the Presidential candidates weren't there... Hillary was ducking sniper fire, and Obama was in church...

THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
I was really glad to see Anderson coming through in the clutch. Hopefully this means more playing time in general, but expecially while Dye is out. It really looks like the kid is starting to get it. His approach at the plate is way better, and his swing is a lot shorter than the last couple years.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!
QUOTE (Texsox @ Apr 25, 2008 -> 03:03 PM) This is the Sox worst PR nightmare. Crede playing up to his potential. Getting out of the gate 4-17 would be the worst nightmare. When you win, things get forgiven.

UNDER AGE DRINKERS BEWARE!
QUOTE (The Beast @ Apr 25, 2008 -> 12:57 PM) Amen! Edit: There is one security guard in the park that I absolutely cannot stand. I'd love to point him out because I'm sure many of you would agree with me on him. He works all over, usually in the bullpen, sometimes along the foul line (left field) and sometimes he is in the dugout. He's an absolute jack ass. When we were grabbing home run balls one day, my friend and I (about 13 years old) had our hands on a ball and it barely slipped off our hands before it fell into the Sox bullpen. He gets the ball and gives it to a kid even though it was pretty much our ball, it hit off of our hands. I actually do believe I dropped it, Kyle picked it up and it bounced into the pen after that. When we asked him what that was all about, he said, "it's all about the kids, go away." I yelled "ass clown" and ran away. But still, there's other cases where we were getting autographs and one day at the Sox/Cubs game, I went to get an autograph from Ozzie---the guy is like, "No, the game is starting," and I ignored him and yelled, "Ozzie, Ozzie!" And Ozzie waved off the security guard, signed my ball and I left, giving the security guard a "f*** you" look. Yes, I can't stand Sox security but not for busting underaged drinking. So its OK when you break the rules, but not the underage drinkers. That's a pretty big bowl of hypocrisy you are serving up there...
