Florida teen beaten by gang of girls
I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere else yet, but I was curious about other people's thoughts on this story? It has taken some odds twists and turns, and there are still some issues I haven't seen addressed yet, but I will get into those later... http://www.cnn.com/2008/CRIME/04/10/girl.fights/

DEM Primaries/Candidates thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 16, 2008 -> 10:49 PM) Editor & Publisher's top guy Greg Mitchell is already on record calling out ABC and the candidates for going along with it. This is the key for me. They can change topics in an answer any other time, but they really seemed to feed into this garbage. Clinton I expected this from, Obama I didn't. I am REALLY disappointed in him, and lost a lot of respect for the guy.

DEM Primaries/Candidates thread
As of yesterday Survey USA, who has been the most accurate of the polling companies who have done 5 or more polls according to the list AHB posted yesterday, gives Clinton a 14 point lead in PA. http://www.surveyusa.com/client/PollReport...55-655afea1a9bf

Your first place Chicago White Sox!

AND THAT"S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!!!!!&
Another great game today. The defense was just awesome, including the Crede dive up the line, The Ramirez cutoff and throw from RC, and the Quenten play at the fence. The D is really the biggest difference in this team this year so far.

DEM Primaries/Candidates thread
QUOTE (Texsox @ Apr 15, 2008 -> 07:11 AM) I was talking yesterday with someone who is a super delegate, and in his mind, the "mission" is to get a Democrat elected President. They should, after analyzing and careful thought, vote for that candidate. They have a separate, independent, vote, and that is how they should vote, with their conscious as a guide. If they are suppose to just vote for whom another group voted for, they could drop the entire super delegate concept and just use the primaries. He would not mention who he is voting for, but my guess would be Hillary. Here's a question, for those that think they are duty bound to go with the person who received the most primary votes, would that be in your state, county, or district? If you are an elected official for a county and Candidate 1 won your county, but lost your state, who would you vote for? IE, the general public isn't smart enough to get it right, so we do it for them... For the party that has complained the loudest about the electoral college, they need to clean up their own house first.

The "Mighty" Detroit Tigers
QUOTE (Whitewashed in '05 @ Apr 14, 2008 -> 08:59 PM) Looks like the Kitties offense has woken up. 7 runs 13 hits thus far threatening to tie it up at 9 versus the Twinkies. NO team who has started 0-7 has ever made the playoffs FWIW

Bush Memo Allowing Torture Surfaces
I always ask this question when this topic comes up, and usually no one answers it directly... Would you understand your family/friends/children dying in a case where the US has a suspect who later turned out to have had information on a pending attack (and the US government believed they did before the attack), whom they didn't torture at all because they followed the Geneva conventions to the letter of the law?

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 14, 2008 -> 03:47 PM) I was a little "leery" of this, but the facts prove it correct... Fox News is one of the most accurate? Interesting... sure doesn't fit the propaganada hurled at it, that's for sure.

Time for undertaxed liberals to put up...
QUOTE (Texsox @ Apr 14, 2008 -> 04:14 PM) He has spoken out about tax policies, not about the ethics of aggressively following those policies. He is only one taxpayer, certainly you can see the reasoning why he should speak out about policy? Because I know more that 99% of people know about tax policy and micro/macroeconomics?

Frank Thomas Statue
QUOTE (RibbieRubarb @ Apr 14, 2008 -> 01:42 PM) I don't think anyone here would oppose a Statue and Number Retirement for Frank Thomas. If there is someone, I would love to hear the case against Frank being honored. Yeah, me too.

DEM Primaries/Candidates thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 14, 2008 -> 12:42 PM) If Hillary were to start sweeping the last few states, scoring big wins in a lot of them, then you sort of start really getting in to that messy area where those loads of crap become worth wondering about. Where Hillary is winning the popular vote outright but not the delegate count, then you get in to a big argument about how much weight should be given to the caucus system, which is just a mess. Better question... if you are a candidate who is at a severe funding disadvantage, would it be worth your time to spend money attacking someone with those kind of odds, or going after the well-established leader of the pack?

DEM Primaries/Candidates thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 14, 2008 -> 12:02 PM) The problem is, how do you define "The will of the voters" especially at the current stage? There are so many different ways of counting, and it's entirely possible to come up with ways to count them that favor Hillary. Do you go with the popular vote? If so, how do you count FL and MI? If you count them the right way to minimize Obama's numbers and increase Hillary's, then it's still possible to come up with a count that gives Hillary the lead. But that minimizes the contribution of caucus states since fewer people show up there anyway, so how do you weight those correctly? And then you can throw in arguments about the impact of the electoral college itself, and that muddies the mess even further. A solid win or two by Obama to stretch the margin a little bit more would finally shut it up. But that's not going to happen until NC it looks like. Would you buy that load of crap if anyone fed it to you? Would the vast majority of the voting public?

DEM Primaries/Candidates thread
QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Apr 14, 2008 -> 11:42 AM) but.... neither candidate can win without super delegate help. thus, Hillary still has a chance of winning this thing. If McCain wanted, he could go after Clinton with Obama and thus make her have to fend off 2 challengers and potentially striking the knock out blow. btw, not sure if it has been discussed here, but I've heard rumors of a Gore/Carter call on Clinton to drop out, either publicly or privately. Not as an endorsement of Obama per-say, but as a "save the party" call. Do you really think that the vast majority of super-delegates are going to go against the will of the Democratic voters, especially after the debacle of the 2000 election? Keep in mind most of these people are also elected officials who would like to keep their offices.

Strong play by Sox may keep Owens in AAA
I am happy to see CQ playing at the level that he is, and that we are succeeding because of it. We really have a lot depth this year, and that is a nice change.

DEM Primaries/Candidates thread
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 14, 2008 -> 11:20 AM) That's all the proof needed right there. What proof? Obama is leading this race by a country mile, and it would take a miracle for him to lose. Why would McCain waste his time on the far second place candidate, when he probably won't race against that person anyway? Should he be attacking Ron Paul still too? Common sense tells you to plan for who you are most likely to face.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 14, 2008 -> 10:40 AM) Hillary Clinton's "Elitist" Comments? So, is she saying that when times are bad they look for people to blame? Sounds rather similar to what Obama said. Or that someone is trying to read into someone's statement just like Clinton did...

Who is the MVP of the Tigers Series
There are so many people you could pick out for MVP of this series, both offensively and defensively. Both Vazquez and Floyd had HUGE games pitching, while guys like Crede and Swisher had great series at the plate and in the field. It is a nice arguement to be having.
