QUOTE (Texsox @ Apr 14, 2008 -> 11:03 PM) Why are we waiting? Baines' number was retired while he was still an active player. Then unretired when he came back. I know it is cheesy, but I'd like to see Frank sign a one day contract, a la Emmitt Smith and retire as a Sox. The organization already has said that Retiring Baines number that early was a mistake, and it wouldn't happen again.

Florida teen beaten by gang of girls
My biggest question is would there have been girls out on bail if they were either boys and/or minorities in this case?

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 17, 2008 -> 11:17 AM) For those of you who saw the debate and Gibbson's attacks on Obama over raising the capital gains tax, thought this was interesting. Apparently Gibbson didnt do enough research... http://www.gototheboard.com/articles/The_C..._Than_You_Think I am really curious how he explained record tax collections accross the board the last couple of years then...

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!
QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Apr 17, 2008 -> 09:17 AM) I wonder though if Swisher might just show this year that what he's doing now, stolen bases aside, is what he's best at. I mean he was never a gigantic RBI guy at any point. Maybe he's just best at getting on base and making that his main focus. This is kind of my feeling on the matter. He seems really good at doing this, plus it takes him out of the RISP that he seemed to struggle in the past in. It leaves that to the guys like Crede who seem to feed off of it.

Rule 5 draft thread
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 16, 2008 -> 05:10 PM) well, good. Now if we can just get Ryan Wing back, I'll have gotten over my issues with the Rule V a little while back. Didn't Wing leave as a minor league free agent?

Dusty Baker comment
QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Apr 16, 2008 -> 10:10 AM) I think there would definitely be morons who would cross the line. There always are. I'm sure every manager deals with it. Yeah there are some wackos....I'm sure Guillen gets racist crap sent to him too....I'm sure Dye has.... All athletes/managers/owners have to deal with ignorant fans. I'm sure Reinsdorf has received his share of mail with Jewish epithets . There are assholes in this world...no doubting it....Some bring ignorant name calling...some bring threats and others bring race. Imrem alluding to it in this article, without referencing anything by the way, is painting a lot of Cub fans with a broad brush. It just seemed misplaced to me. Found this tidbit from the normally useless Mariotti from back then..... The first time Dusty Baker opened his mailbag and made a racist letter public, I was all ears. The second time Dusty Baker opened his mailbag and made a racist letter public, I wondered what he was suggesting. The third time Dusty Baker opened his mailbag and made a racist letter public -- which happened the other day, only weeks before his contract expires -- I grasped his agenda. He wants the world to think bigotry is a regular occupational hazard of Cubdom, that he's fighting obstacles much uglier than a billy goat and 98 years of futility. To which I say: Dusty, stop using convenient copouts to shroud the real truth -- that you simply haven't been a good manager the last three seasons and don't deserve to have your contract extended. This from the guy who uses his convenient fued with Sox front office to fill his columns up on a daily basis. Hypocrasy knows no end with Kotex-boy. Face it, you haven't been a good columnist that I have ever seen, and you deserve to be fired.

I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere else yet, but I was curious about other people's thoughts on this story? It has taken some odds twists and turns, and there are still some issues I haven't seen addressed yet, but I will get into those later... http://www.cnn.com/2008/CRIME/04/10/girl.fights/

DEM Primaries/Candidates thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 16, 2008 -> 10:49 PM) Editor & Publisher's top guy Greg Mitchell is already on record calling out ABC and the candidates for going along with it. This is the key for me. They can change topics in an answer any other time, but they really seemed to feed into this garbage. Clinton I expected this from, Obama I didn't. I am REALLY disappointed in him, and lost a lot of respect for the guy.

AND THAT"S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!!!!!&
Another great game today. The defense was just awesome, including the Crede dive up the line, The Ramirez cutoff and throw from RC, and the Quenten play at the fence. The D is really the biggest difference in this team this year so far.

DEM Primaries/Candidates thread
QUOTE (Texsox @ Apr 15, 2008 -> 07:11 AM) I was talking yesterday with someone who is a super delegate, and in his mind, the "mission" is to get a Democrat elected President. They should, after analyzing and careful thought, vote for that candidate. They have a separate, independent, vote, and that is how they should vote, with their conscious as a guide. If they are suppose to just vote for whom another group voted for, they could drop the entire super delegate concept and just use the primaries. He would not mention who he is voting for, but my guess would be Hillary. Here's a question, for those that think they are duty bound to go with the person who received the most primary votes, would that be in your state, county, or district? If you are an elected official for a county and Candidate 1 won your county, but lost your state, who would you vote for? IE, the general public isn't smart enough to get it right, so we do it for them... For the party that has complained the loudest about the electoral college, they need to clean up their own house first.

The "Mighty" Detroit Tigers
QUOTE (Whitewashed in '05 @ Apr 14, 2008 -> 08:59 PM) Looks like the Kitties offense has woken up. 7 runs 13 hits thus far threatening to tie it up at 9 versus the Twinkies. NO team who has started 0-7 has ever made the playoffs FWIW

Bush Memo Allowing Torture Surfaces
I always ask this question when this topic comes up, and usually no one answers it directly... Would you understand your family/friends/children dying in a case where the US has a suspect who later turned out to have had information on a pending attack (and the US government believed they did before the attack), whom they didn't torture at all because they followed the Geneva conventions to the letter of the law?

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 14, 2008 -> 03:47 PM) I was a little "leery" of this, but the facts prove it correct... Fox News is one of the most accurate? Interesting... sure doesn't fit the propaganada hurled at it, that's for sure.

Time for undertaxed liberals to put up...
QUOTE (Texsox @ Apr 14, 2008 -> 04:14 PM) He has spoken out about tax policies, not about the ethics of aggressively following those policies. He is only one taxpayer, certainly you can see the reasoning why he should speak out about policy? Because I know more that 99% of people know about tax policy and micro/macroeconomics?
