Obama's Pastor
QUOTE(lostfan @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 06:24 AM) Mmkay really, in all honesty, Wright is nothing at all like David Duke or any other white supremacist leader. For someone to think that is cognitive dissonance in action. That's kind of an interesting side point that might be worth exploring. How differently are people like Rev Wright treated when they say racist and controversial things, versus someone like say Don Imus or Geraldine Ferraro?

Best White Sox trading chip
Buerhle would be HUGE. he is a guy signed to a cheap long term deal, who is a top of the rotation starter and a lefty. Because of his contract, I would bet the Sox could get a similar package that MN got for Santana. No one else comes close to MBs value.

Obama calling for raising the Cap Gains tax
QUOTE(jasonxctf @ Mar 27, 2008 -> 04:29 PM) or people will invest through traditional tax-free investment routes like 401ks and IRA's and thus no capital gains penalities until they retire, when their tax rates are lower. if anything, a rate increase would mean that more long-term investing would be utilized rather than the short-term ups and downs of today. Which both have relatively low caps for what the type of investing we are talking about. The people who are making these markets are smart enough to contribute tax free before they start doing things that deal with capital gains. These people are educated investors.

Obama calling for raising the Cap Gains tax
QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Mar 27, 2008 -> 03:01 PM) What are these "certain incomes?" Democrats seem to view anyone making over $75k as rich. And I would bet that 95%, at least, of investment money comes from this income bracket. You would literally be penalizing the very people who put liquidity and capital into the markets. Poor people by their very nature don't invest, because they don't have the disposable income to invest. If you start making it too expensive to invest, people will search out other areas to place their money. If we get back to 39% income taxes and 28% capital gains taxes, to go along with the inflation problems and lack of lending capital, it will be the mid to late 70's all over again.

Presidential Election Reform
As long as the superdelegate is still around, you can't really say the primaries would be fair. The chance of maniuplation is still there.

Obama calling for raising the Cap Gains tax
Just when you think the Democrats can't lose, they find the issue to hand the election to John McCain. Raising taxes will not get you elected in this day and age.

Official How Many Games Will the Sox Win Thread
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 27, 2008 -> 01:09 PM) Interesting. Despite the fact that a lot of people on this board have been panick-posting at laughable levels of hyperbole, so far, the poll shows only 2 votes for a record below .500. Its early and a lot of people haven't made their predictions yet. I am curious to see what some people are going to pick, and who won't be willing to post their totals personally.

Failed Dynasties: The 1993 White Sox
QUOTE(Pants Rowland @ Mar 27, 2008 -> 11:35 AM) The fact that your knowledge of the 1994 team is based on second hand accounts from your dad and older brother makes me feel old since I was in college at the time and could probably name most of the roster. Ugh. Me too!

For GOP only
QUOTE(lostfan @ Mar 27, 2008 -> 10:51 AM) They even have Obama supporters beat. I will say that I don't ever remember the Ron Paul supports doing as much negative stuff about other people in their own party. It was almost all pro-Paul stuff.

The joke that is KW and the White Sox
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 27, 2008 -> 10:58 AM) We were also looking at a veteran staff he knew could pitch out of stuff. We don't have that luxury in two spots anymore. Especially if Floyd is Garland-esque fragile, you can't leave him out there for a 8-9 run preformance. Danks routinely was pulled in the 5th inning last year as the season went on. And FWIW, Danks alone went 7 outings last year of less than 5 innings.

The joke that is KW and the White Sox
QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 27, 2008 -> 10:21 AM) How many times since Ozzie's been with the Sox has he pulled a starter before 5 innings? I would guess we can count the number on one hand. We were also looking at a veteran staff he knew could pitch out of stuff. We don't have that luxury in two spots anymore. Especially if Floyd is Garland-esque fragile, you can't leave him out there for a 8-9 run preformance. Danks routinely was pulled in the 5th inning last year as the season went on.

For GOP only
QUOTE(lostfan @ Mar 27, 2008 -> 10:40 AM) yeah what turned me off of him is the fact that for anything he doesn't like or thinks isn't running at full efficiency, his answer to it is "get rid of it, the Constitution doesn't say we can have it anyway!" He was right in principle on a lot of things, his ways of executing those ideas were borderline insane though. This is 2008. It's romantic to think our government can return to the simpler version of itself overnight but that's not reality. He also has by far the most die-hard, fanatical supporters of any political candidate I've ever seen. Not that that's a bad thing in and of itself, far from it actually because that kind of dedication in politics is good. But they've all convinced themselves everything Paul says is gospel and infallible, even the ridiculous ideas. I don't know, some of the Obama stuff is getting there anymore.

DEM Primaries/Candidates thread
QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Mar 27, 2008 -> 09:37 AM) Are Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and Elton John breaking U.S. laws by allowing the British pop singer, a foreign national, to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for Mrs. Clinton's presidential campaign by performing a concert on her behalf? It worked for them during the 96 re-election cycle...

For GOP only
QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Mar 27, 2008 -> 10:01 AM) I agree. I've said it for a while. I think some of his ideas would resonate with the American public, but he comes off as some wackjob politician. Its because he IS a whack-job. Its one thing to want to take the government from point A to point Z. Its pretty stupid to understand that you cannot skip steps B through Y without blowing up the American way of life. That was my biggest problem with Ron Paul from day one. He would put America into the Great Depression to get something done.

The joke that is KW and the White Sox
QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 27, 2008 -> 09:40 AM) I'd rather have the superior pitchers in Wasserman and MacDougal on the roster, and let some other team claim Masset. Maybe if Ozzie won't overmanage his bullpen and not be obsessed with lefty/righty situations, we won't run out of bullpen guys. With 5 inning-Danks, Floyd, and a scary Contreras in the starting rotation, I want a guy who can give us 3-4-5 innings in the pen. I don't want to blow up all of these guys because one situational 6th inning guy pitched better in spring training and late last year. We need the guy who makes the most sense to the set up of the team. Even if it isn't Masset, we need a guy who can suck up innings in case starters falter. If Wasserman wants to be that guy, he had better stretch out that arm.

Another one of these topics
QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 03:58 PM) 10K is indeed a milestone, so congratulations. I remember what a big occasion it was when Southsider2K5 made his 10,000th post. Soxtalk had already been up and running for a good day and a half by that time IIRC. HEY THAT IS NOT FAIR! Mostly because I didn't find Soxtalk for about six months...

Another one of these topics
QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 03:32 PM) This is my 10,000th post and since 10k is a milestone on soxtalk, and it took me nearly 4 years to reach it, I've decided not to start a new thread, but to put it in a thread I started a couple of days ago. Thanks for everyone who's put up some advice in this thread, it has really helped. Hopefully another 10,000 posts will come. Despite being from Iowa, a very quality poster you are! Here is to the next 10,000

Man shoots and kills wife...
QUOTE(almagest @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 08:10 PM) I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that there may have been a little "I'm going to murder my wife now" involved. Now that makes far more sense than anything else I have heard so far...

The joke that is KW and the White Sox
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Mar 27, 2008 -> 07:57 AM) No kidding. Last checked, KW said if Joe is here, he is starting and Fields will be in AAA. Which is exactly what happened. I don't ever remember Josh being annointed the starter either... Do you have a link?

swisher to lead off to start the season and play center
QUOTE(scenario @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 10:55 PM) They already know both guys, Brian and Quentin, can field. They just want to see how they look hitting major league pitching, outside of spring training that is... And try to avoid moving Swisher around too much while he adjusts to playing outfield in the Cell. I think you hit the nail on the head here. I think Anderson is going to be the 4th OF so they want to make Swisher as comfortable as possible by playing him everyday. Because Anderson is going to be the fill in, they want him playing all of the positions. I think they envision Swisher as the CF with either Owens or Quinten in LF, so why keep jerking around Swisher based on who is the sub of the day? Keep him comfortable since he is your #1 guy out there. Let him learn the position and the field as much as possible.
