LOST!!!!
Wow, that is very interesting stuff. It makes sense, I will say that much. I can't wait to see how this plays out. I really feel like this is the greatest show of all time.

Crede likely to start on opening day
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 08:38 AM) The fact that the Sox have not yet traded Joe Crede - and still may - is the dumbest move the franchise has ever made? Can we have some perspective here? Two words Jaime.Navarro.

For Dems only.
QUOTE(bmags @ Mar 18, 2008 -> 10:28 PM) If you say something enough, people will believe it, right? Kinda like the 100 year war "myth"?

Obama's Pastor
QUOTE(lostfan @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 08:06 AM) And I'm a Southsider to the bone, a product of Chicago Public Schools. Although I don't live in Chicago anymore. So it may have been more difficult for me, but it certainly wasn't impossible. And it's not directly anyone's "fault", either. I see things as class-based rather than race-based, poor people are at a natural disadvantage. If a white kid grows up in Englewood he is going to have the same rough path a black kid has. But it just so happens that blacks and Mexicans have been put into that situation in disproportionately large numbers, the reasons for that come from a long time ago and that's where a lot of animosity comes from. Now the problem is, how do we undo it? It's complex. If there was one thing I learned from my run for school board it is that race, sex, religion, and any other ism you can throw out there pale in comparision to being poor as an indicator of where someone will go in life. Kids from bad areas preform badly, regardless of race, more often than any other difference you can draw between students. The property tax system to fund schools is a HUGE failure.

Murtha endorses Clinton. This plus the PA gov being pro-Clinton are two body blows to Obama in the last big state on the map. http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/03/19/mur...nton/index.html

First Supreme Court case re: 2nd Amendment in 70 years
I couldn't ever see myself carrying a gun, but to me that is pretty clear. "Shall not be infringed" is not very vague at all.

Crede likely to start on opening day
QUOTE(BobDylan @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 06:08 AM) I thought they should've dealt him in the '06 off-season, but what do I know? They tried. They had negotations with both the Yankees and Angels. Kenny tried to get Arod from the Yankees, so that one was a little more far fetched, but the Sox and Angels had talks, and nothing happened because of the old regimes reluctance to deal. Williams isn't stupid, he knew he wanted to avoid this day. He also knew he couldn't just give away a fan favorite.

American Idol - Season 7
The two Davids were the big highlights tonight. Other than that, there were some weird arrangements.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Mar 18, 2008 -> 03:21 PM) I got the VIX part, why do you think they are going to "blow this thing up soon"? The fundementals aren't good, there really isn't any "good" news right now, and this is a huge rally in a legitmate Bear market.

Stocks and investing thread
http://www.investopedia.com/terms/v/vix.asp By its very natures down days create volatility, because it is changed divided by total index price. When you go down, you are dividing into a smaller number, so the VIX goes up. When it goes up, you are diving into a bigger number, so the VIX usually falls. It is down from 35 to 26 in the last two days reflecting the big rally's of this week. So I basically bought a lottery ticket that we have some big off days in the next month.

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Mar 18, 2008 -> 02:13 PM) Now they've zoomed back up. A lot of people were hoping for a full point. Not everyone, but there was speculation of anything from half to a full point. Yes it did. I bought VIX in my account. I get the feeling they are going to blow this thing up soon.

2nd Base job
I am going to go out onto a limb and predict that if Ramirez gets a spot and plays a lot, he will become quickly one of the most hated players on the team. Sloppy defense and a guy who will swing at anything sounds like a guy who has a Soxtalk target on his back.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 18, 2008 -> 01:38 PM) Am I reading this wrong, or did you use a double-negative there and assert essentially that all of us are racists? Was that a deliberate point that I'm somehow just not understanding? What he meant to say was "That I know of..."

No more high Jenks
The ultimate Don Cooper success story right here. He has become a much better pitcher, not to mention probably saving that valuable arm, by measuring up his pitches better, instead of throwing everything as hard as he can.

QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Mar 17, 2008 -> 05:33 PM) I think it'll be 50-50 or make each delegate count as half. The latter is more "democratic" since it represents how the voters voted.. they just count as half. They could just do 3/5s if they want to really disenfranchise everyone...

HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY!!!

Gavin Floyd
Garland was incredibly streaky during the course of his seasons. He would get on incredible tears, and then there would be months where he just got killed. His first year in the majors looks like something out of Floyds stat line in 70 IP.

Energy thread
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 17, 2008 -> 08:41 AM) You know, its interesting you say that. We installed them all over the house probably a year ago. And mostly they are just fine. But there is one particular one that burned out early - like after 2 months. Replaced it, and the new one in that same location burned out AGAIN. I have a suspicion that perhaps these CFL's are more sensitive to power spikes and such. Your bulb probably had a warranty, if you still have the receipt. Interesting. I'll have to pay attention to that. These things are too damned expensive to waste.

I had my first of the new lightbulbs burn out after only 6 months. I thought these stupid things were supposed to last forever?

Stocks and investing thread
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 17, 2008 -> 08:05 AM) Some of you may recall a discussion in this thread (or a similar one) a while back... SS2K5 and I were discussing the Chicago exchanges, and their consolidations and purchases - looking like they were trying to make a run at New York as the trading capitol of the west. Well, the CME Group made a big move today - they are buying Nymex. Nymex is the largest derivatives exchange in NY, trading futures and options on all kinds of products. Nymex has, over the years, absorbed other exchanges like Comex. The biggest prize in the pot here is, Nymex is the premier trading floor for energies - oil and gas. The deal is worth just short of $10B. Linky. I am surprised they are continuing with this. It didn't sounds like they would approve it because of monopoly concerns. This is a HUGE step forward for Chicago if it is allowed. it will also bring the f***ing New York futures markets into the 21st century technology wise, because they are THE WORST! Now I really want to see them incoroporate some of the other types of market places (stock, options, SSFs etc) and make it a one stop shopping for all possible trading. It would be a great niche market that no one else in the world offers.
