  1. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 11, 2008 -> 10:57 AM) Of course, economically, this is a terrible idea. If you have a commodity that is only available in a limited amount, and you lower the price of it, then all that is going to happen is you're going to watch demand try to surge to make up for the price decrease, and things will come right back in to balance. So you might lower prices by a few tens of cents initially, but they'd go right back up as people bought more, and all that would happen would be that the Saudis would make more money on each barrel while the governments in the U.S. would make less. And then your property taxes would have to go up, or your sales taxes would double, or something like that. Which is also why price ceilings always fail as well. If you want a great example of this in real life, look at the economy of Zimbabwe.
  2. QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 11, 2008 -> 10:29 AM) /when I read about the Clinton connection that was my first thought I viewed her campaign's ties to questionable fund raising individuals to be more of an issue. With all the delegates and super delegates out there, every candidate has some problems. I was thinking my Mayor, Joe Ochoa, endorsed Obama and has campaigned for him. This area is solidly Clinton territory, so this was a courageous endorsement by Ochoa. We also had a state rep or two that weakly came out for Obama and then fell back in line for Clinton. This was big news here, but I doubt it was covered in your media. Was it because he's a Dem, or because politics is local? Chicago is so pro-Obama it isn't even funny. Everyday there are articles in the papers, but the whole Chicago media is in love with the guy. You hardly hear anything for Hillary or McCain.
  3. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Mar 11, 2008 -> 09:27 AM) So would changing the currency of trade of oil to the Euro stop the rapid increase in oil cost? No it wouldn't. We would still need to buy Euros with a weakening dollar to buy them, so the dollar slide would still hurt us.
  4. QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 11, 2008 -> 09:27 AM) Hillary would have to have known he was soliciting prostitutes for it to change my opinion of her. Perhaps the effect is great, but less widespread. The preachers that have been involved in these sorts of things generally have a national following. I could not even name five Governors, so I just don't see it as being that important outside of his state. Except to score some little political points or, as mentioned, for the entertainment angle. Just a thought... Anyone check to see if Bill was a "client" (Mostly green text)
  5. The dollar slide and the flight from stocks to commodities are the two biggest legitimate fundimentals behind the rise of crude. I would also argue the high prices are the only way to change behavior to move away from fossil fuels.
  6. QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 11, 2008 -> 09:03 AM) I should be a big time story in his state, but really, how much does the Governor of another state resigning change in your life? Is it really of national importance? It will get covered for the entertainment value. How about a governor who has really close ties to one of the leading Presidential candidates? Then again even without the connections to Hillary, the affect is still more than the preachers that are taken down publically for the same kind of stuff.
  7. The bottom of the roster is so jammed, that barring injury, these guys are all headed to Charlotte.
  8. I know Crede hasn't exactly set the world on fire, but what has Fields done to win the job either so far this spring? Both of them have hit like s***. For my money if Crede isn't going to be traded, I would rather see him playing third base because of his defense, to help this pitching staff. I still would rather see Joe get dealt, but if we aren't going to get anything for us, even if he isn't hitting, he helps this team.
  9. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Mar 11, 2008 -> 01:36 AM) Ahhh, 2:30 am, and I just stepped outside in shorts and barefeet to watch a gorgeous early morning launch of the Shuttle Endeavor, on its way to the International Space Station. Sometimes I love living down here. There are few things that compare to a nighttime shuttle launch. Being drunk on Daytona Beach during your senior year of college and watching a shuttle launch at 2 am rates up there as well.
  10. Damn. Get well soon Brandon!!!
  11. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Mar 10, 2008 -> 02:16 PM) I wonder about the winters, and the battery lifespan as well. I guess we will see how it performs when these things get released. I think i read 8-12 hours for recharging. And, yeah, people will have to be creative about getting curbside power. I have a decorative lamppost right next to my driveway that has an outlet that I tap into to light Christmas decorations, so that would become my charging station. Now. . . anybody got $30K they want to lend me? This has subprime lending written all over it!
  12. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Mar 10, 2008 -> 02:36 PM) There's a bump, but Clinton has been campaigning in MS. However, she's gotten nasty and that won't fly well everywhere. I think this election cycle has proven out that it won't fly in states where there is a bigger Africian American population. I really think this won't fly in MS, but might in PA.
  13. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Mar 10, 2008 -> 02:40 PM) I believe she was blowing something else actually. His chances at political life mostly...
  14. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Mar 10, 2008 -> 02:29 PM) Brooklyn. And yes, this is horrible. There's nothing I hate more than someone who uses the services of something he tries to gain political points for by railing against it. Have the balls to advocate legalizing prostitution if you're gonna pay for sex. Don't be an attention hog to bust prostitution rings instead. Probably didn't wanna give him the Attorney General discount. Bingo. Spitzer made his whole career by taking other people down. To be honest, i wouldn't be surprised in the least if he was set up. If he did this on his own merit, he is an incredible idiot to think that no one would find out and use this against him. The man has made some powerful enemies.
  15. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 10, 2008 -> 01:31 PM) Linkity. He has 2 choices. Either he has to become a Republican Congressman or his political career is over. He could always ask what the definition of "is" is...
  16. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 10, 2008 -> 08:05 AM) Yeah, I saw a segment like that too - but they were saying how that might make it possible for someone to reach the necessary delegates to win. Which I took to mean the ceiling hadn't changed. But then, I may have misunderstood. I probably did. At one point they flat out asked if the 2025 included MI and FL and they said no, and that the total needed to win would change if they were included.
  17. Happy Birthday
  18. Happy Birthday
  19. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 9, 2008 -> 01:58 PM) As I understand it, the 4049 includes FL and MI. Unless CNN was dead wrong Sunday morning, it does not. They were talking about the impact of adding back MI and FL and how it would change the election.

QUOTE(thedoctor @ Mar 9, 2008 -> 09:18 AM) as for the man on the freighter, i've thought for a long time it was michael. but they almost seem to be leading you to thinking that, setting up another surprise. it is never like this show to be predictable and right now it is predictable that it is michael. who knows, maybe it is. i always liked his character and will be happy to have him back. that then begs the question where is walt, who has not been listed on the credits this year. So doing our homework... who else could it be?
  21. QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 9, 2008 -> 01:01 AM) If MI and FL are redone, or somehow seated, wouldn't that increase the number of delegates needed to win? Yes it would. The 2025 to win number is definately without MI and FL.
  22. 10,000 BC, a real life Cub fans account of their last World Series win.
  23. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 7, 2008 -> 09:27 PM) 1. Other cities DO have these problems. Most of them do, in fact. 2. People have historically, especially in the last 2 or 3 decades, not made an issue of it because the city has done so well. Its gone through a virtual renaissance. 3. Also during that period, until recently, the city appeared to run much better than others. The streets are cleaner, potholes are fixed faster, things work better. Ask people who lived in Chicago but also in other cities (myself included). Its only been the last few years where people have noticed that the quality has dropped a lot, but the high taxes continue. That's when there is trouble. If other places have these problems, why is it that Chicago is the highest taxed municipality in the country?
  24. Another Obama campaign person was on one of the news programs saying that BOTH Hillary AND Obama weren't ready for the infamous 3 am phone call being portrayed in her campaign ad.
