QUOTE(The Critic @ Feb 9, 2008 -> 08:48 AM) I love being old and married. Life is easy when the race is over. Peace, love, and ensure to all of us oldsters
  2. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Feb 9, 2008 -> 10:34 AM) I tend to agree somewhat although Obama has less flaws for me than the others. I also think there's something to say about his ability to inspire so many people including young voters. When was the last time the youth came out in such numbers? I honestly feel he can do a good job of uniting this country. Call me naive or whatever else but that's how I feel. I also think our standing in the world would go up a few notches with an Obama presidency. I've read too many glowing articles from abroad to convince me otherwise. Its hard to be inspired by someone who doesn't agree with anything you believe. That is me is a pretty major flaw.
  3. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Feb 9, 2008 -> 09:34 AM) Does anyone here have any family members by-marriage who are just such a great fit and so wonderful that they become as close or closer to you than your blood relations? That was my "Uncle" Joe. Not really an uncle, but married to a first cousin. Unbelievably great guy, generous beyond measure, and lifelong diehard Sox fan to boot. He was diagnosed with lymphoma a couple of years back, and it progressed unbelievably rapidly and just ate him up. He died yesterday, way before he should have, leaving a wife, children, and new grandchildren way too soon. You will be missed by many, Uncle Joe. :crying Most of my in-laws are better than my immediate family... Its not always the blood that matters.
  4. Happy Birthday to one of the funniest guys this site has ever seen. Keep it plushie!
  5. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Feb 8, 2008 -> 04:00 PM) Can't wait to have you back home, Nuke. Seriously. Take care over there. Less than two months... that has to feel pretty good. Stay safe, as always!
  6. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Feb 8, 2008 -> 05:17 PM) You know, I hear an awful lot about what you don't like about other candidates, but I sure don't hear a lot about what you like about your candidate. The problem is that there really isn't a candidate I can honestly say I like. They all have huge flaws for me.
  7. Mike Huckabee is officially staying in the race, per his speech this morning from CPAC. I know Obama gets a lot of love for his speech making ability, but Huck can work a room just as well, if not better than Barack.
  8. QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Feb 8, 2008 -> 03:17 PM) That's a perfectly reasonable position. Rheotoric like "Hillary and Obama want to surrender Iraq to Al Queda and let them attack America" is just BS for the ultra-conservative audience he was pandering to. About as accurate as saying Bush wants to invade every country that we don't like...

QUOTE(knightni @ Feb 8, 2008 -> 03:19 PM) I owned Wranglers because they were cheap. I don't give a s*** if people think I'm a loser anymore. High School is over. Couldn't have said it better myself.
  10. QUOTE(Cali @ Feb 8, 2008 -> 02:39 PM) Was driving by the hospital the other day and pulled over to snap a quick picture... Hopefully it'll be busiling with activity come Monday I miss the toilet on the roof
  11. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Feb 7, 2008 -> 03:18 PM) Don't get him started Steve, this could go on for another 3 pages. Now that you mention it though, I could go for a stadium dog/brat right about now. God damn it man, the season is still 2 months away! Gold Coast Dogs is the closest substitute there is...
  12. My all time favorite baseball player. I really hope he turns around the Rangers.
  13. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 8, 2008 -> 12:42 PM) Yes it will. But if you accept that a significant level of cost-cutting/control is necessary to avoid that situation, where 50% of the GDP of this country is spent on health care, then the question is not "can we tolerate these new problems" it's "problems will happen, what's the best way to deal with them, because the alternative of doing nothing is simply untenable" I also don't believe that the graph will end up being true. There is no way the system will get to the point where health care takes up 50% of GDP, which makes all of the scare tactics moot.

QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Feb 8, 2008 -> 01:45 PM) Some of it would have, but the wreckage clearly showed the cockpit, which we know was on the island. It also looked like it was near Indonesia, which is nowhere near the pilot said they were when they went down. Unless the pilot was wrong on their location because his instrementation was wrong from the islands electromagnitism

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Feb 8, 2008 -> 09:39 AM) Whilst I agree beer is and should be the the natural answer to every human need, it is of course a very poor source of protein. Now, the discarded brewery yeast on the other hand would be a fine source of protein. But DBHAO has already voiced his aversion to Vegemite which is the quintessential brewery yeast byproduct intended for human consumption. Well regardless, we do know for a fact that beer is an excellent source of weight gain

Didn't a large section of the plane go down in the ocean?
  17. QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Feb 8, 2008 -> 09:31 AM) Not sure if you guys heard this or not, but there is a rumor floating around that Michigan and Florida might REDO their primaries post-March 4th. Rumor is Michigan would do some sort of a caucus, but Florida is a different story. They might take the "national average" and divide there delegates that way. Below is last nights Countdown with Kieth Olberman... I don't mind them revoting. I do not want to see them count ballots based on both candidates not having equal footing.
  18. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 8, 2008 -> 11:10 AM) The problem is...doesn't the graph I posted earlier mean that some sort of cost cutting is required no matter who runs the program? If we're on track for 50% of GDP spent on health care in 50 years or so, then simply saying that having the government cut costs is a bad thing doesn't address the fact that someone has to cut costs somewhere. It also doesn't address the fact that cutting costs is going to create new problems.
  19. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 8, 2008 -> 11:11 AM) At this point...I really dislike it when a campaign happens. I was going to say... when they insult my intelligence, but lately, these are pretty much interchangable.

I wonder if that is Dharma coming back for Ben after he murdered all of their guys?

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Feb 7, 2008 -> 06:13 PM) So any tips on any unlikely foods that are really good protein sources? For example a typical day of food for me would be a breakfast of cereal, a bagel before I get to work (with nothing in it), a lunch consisting probably of some sort of foccacia / sandwich (it'll most likely have chicken in it), an apple / chocolate bar in the afternoon, some potato chips when I get home from work, dinner would probably be a Steak / Chicken / Fish with potatoes, carrots, beans, celery, lettuce and broccoli and Dessert would probably be some Ice - Cream or an Orange. (Waits for the you need to eat more posts..........). Beer!
  22. QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 8, 2008 -> 07:50 AM) Who would be working for half the pay? "cutting costs" means cutting jobs or cutting wages, there is no way around it. That is one of the dirty little secrets here.
  23. Wait isn't everyone thanking the Sox for the $110 million payroll? Guys this was inevitable. If we want a top 10 payroll, we have to have a top 10 revenue base. Tickets, parking, and everything else going just going to keep going up as long as the Sox are putting out this kind of money.
  24. I am glad to see it didn't take Ozzie long to be blamed

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Feb 7, 2008 -> 11:45 AM) I think I'll just pick up Turbo Tax Deluxe for Fed/State this weekend (i presume if its ordered online they just let you download it) and then I'll take care of it Saturday night. As a new homeowner, is there anything I should know about re: deductions? Will TTd take care of those for me? It will ask you a bunch of questions at the beginning, including if you have had any life changes in the last year (new house, job, baby etc). Based on those answers it will walk you through the forms you need, and it will compare whether the standard or itemized deductions are better in your specific case. I have used TaxCut by HR Block for 5-6 years now, and I love it. It is really simple to use.
