  1. QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Feb 21, 2008 -> 08:18 AM) I'm not very familiar with the collective barganing agreement, so this is kind of a blind question, but is there any regulations on what he can sign for? Does it have to be a certain percentage of his old contract? Nope.
  2. QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 21, 2008 -> 08:08 AM) That option sounds just too high. I was thinking it was cheap for a pitcher who put up the numbers that Colon did during his prime. I think it would provide a carrot, er cheeseburger, for him to chase this year.
  3. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Feb 20, 2008 -> 10:42 PM) No, Loaiza didn't have a Cy Young nor 146 wins under his belt. He also signed in a pretty weak market, while the market is up right now. Colon is probably going to get $3-5 mill with an option for next year that's in the $11-15 mill range. I think this is the closest so far. I would guess 2-3 million in base salary with incentives based on innings pitched or games started to push him into the 10-12 million dollar range. I am going to guess they also agree on a mutual option for somewhere around 13 million, or just a little less than what Buehrle extended for annually.
  4. If the Sox are to compete we need a huge step forward from one of these two guys, and I think Floyd might be the guy. Judging by the success this regime had with Jon Garland, who got the same type of fragile label, they might be able to tap into that talent.
  5. We are trying to sign Columbus now? I am the only one who thinks he might be a little, well, old?
  6. just to add on, the ST is also quoted as saying that Jerry added 10 lbs of muscle in the off season.

QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Feb 19, 2008 -> 01:57 PM) Amen. You just want some damn answers! but at the same time, it's the desire to know these answers that makes it so good!!! The killer is that when you get the answers you want, it gives you like 50 more questions.
  8. What Kenny really wanted to say... [using Kenny Williams to English translator] Some f***ing b****es planted this story out there because they wanted, to get Bartolo more money. We were trying to get him on the down low, aka the cheap, before anyone else was on to us, and a bidding war happened. I am scared to death about running Contreras, Floyd, and Danks out there, and even the chance that Colon could be good is worth it to me, but these stupid b****es gave it away. I hate you all. [/translator]
  9. Sounds like Bartolo's people are trying to scare other teams into a last minute bid...
  10. Owens goal this year is for 65 stolen bases... Let's hear the love!
  11. Ah classics already...
  12. Its a lottery ticket. Nothing more, nothing less. If he pitches really well, the Sox hit it big. Think about a rotation of a 2004/5 Colon, Buehrle, and Vasquez. If we get any bounce back from Contreras, that is as good of a rotation as exists in baseball. If he fails, or is still hurt, we fall back to the kids, just like we were going to do anyway.
  13. I broadcast Indiana High School basketball state final 4 from the Hoosier Dome. I felt a second generation space shuttle heat tile before it was ever tested on the space shuttle. I almost got beat up by an NHL goon.
  14. QUOTE(Reddy @ Feb 17, 2008 -> 11:30 AM) last year their projection was for... wait for it... 72-90 what was our record? Didn't they project 72 wins and 4th place in 2005 as well?
  15. I don't know what the instant negatitve sentiment is for some, but to see a young guy bust his ass over the off season and make a committment to baseball excites me. Hell think how much different this franchise would have looked if Brian Anderson had done this two years ago. Nick Massett coming into camp ready to go gives us another electric arm as an option in the pen, or maybe even starting.
  16. Bye, bye Joe, thanks for the memories.
  17. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Feb 15, 2008 -> 02:58 PM) Yea, cause they care about all this s***. I bet they will come knockin' on my door tonight because I said, screw the government. And by that same token, there are so many people out there who want to trust the same all knowing, all wise government with every right to provide our health care, get control of all the records relating to health care, and decide who gets treated and who doesn't because it might "cost too much". And our tax code, and our corporations, and our retirement, and our ethics...
  18. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Feb 15, 2008 -> 09:28 AM) Ouch, very sorry to hear that. so. . . is is cool to call you Rex Brokea** or not? Too soon?
  19. Damn I can't wait to see baseball live again...
  20. QUOTE(Vance Law @ Feb 15, 2008 -> 12:54 PM) enhanced Or Alex freaking Gonzalez.
  21. QUOTE(Reddy @ Feb 15, 2008 -> 11:51 AM) wow. so what are they doing that we're not? maybe they don't emerse their kids in a culture of violence which desentizises people to its reality in daily life. [tries for a third offshoot thread]
  22. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Feb 15, 2008 -> 11:16 AM) The ability to fight fire with fire will not come close to offsetting the anti-Clinton vote that will mobilize on behalf of McCain if she gets the nomination. You say everybody already knows Bearing in mind that the Clinton s***, but it's not a question of what McCain could do with that. Keep in mind that 1/3 of the fractuous conservative base ? the social conservatives and more specifically the Christian conservatives ? are not too keen on the idea of a McCain presidency. The fact that this group turned out in droves to vote for GWB made the difference in the last two elections. If they sit 2008 out and the Dems turned out in the kind if numbers it appears they will, McCain loses by a lot in the general. But all of that potentially falls apart with a Clinton nomination, because the Clinton Penis will again become something the conservative Christians can turn out to vote against if the GOP media machine finds a way to pretend it is an issue. It comes down to this. Would they rather have McCain or Hillary/Obama in the White House?
  23. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Feb 15, 2008 -> 09:44 AM) Well, I know YAS doesn't feel that way personally, but his point is that this sentiment runs pretty deep, and that's what I was alluding to that both Obama and Hillary have some issues with Texas (and that's just one example). And I will tell you that I'm pretty certain Obama, IF he wins, will not pick Hillary to be his Veep. It won't work. I don't know to say this gently, but having been immersed in a area for college, that looked completely like me, there are lots of people in this country who don't see past race. Most of you all are from pretty diverse areas around Chicago, and haven't really experienced that, but let me tell you first hand that it does exist in our country today.
  24. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Feb 14, 2008 -> 03:12 PM) The party would implode if that were to occur. I think it could also implode if the superdelegates go against the wishes of the people.
  25. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 14, 2008 -> 01:27 PM) Isn't it possible that hte Clintons are running a solid campaign but Obama is just running a better one? I'll submit this as evidence of that claim: The votes claim might mean something, but the delegate count comparison is worthless between parties, because the Dems seat 4049 delegates while the Repubs seat 2380.
