QUOTE(kapkomet @ Feb 13, 2008 -> 12:33 PM) We're just a bunch of communistic bastards with nothing better to do. (note, I have no idea even what you're talking about... ) Heck that is the first chapter in the admin handbook. "How to piss off posters and alienate teenagers"

Economic Stimulus Check
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Feb 13, 2008 -> 12:46 PM) By then, you'll have kids and never have any money to go big. Yeah at that point "going big" means front row seats to the Wiggles concert.

If you thought the subprime mortgage crisis was bad...
QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Feb 13, 2008 -> 01:06 PM) Definitely should be, and I would imagine that it is. This ties back into the other thread about who's really responsible and should feel the pain from the subprime crisis. Little bit of column A, a little bit of column B. And they both are going to get what they deserve out of this. If the dealership did indeed committ fraud, they need to be charged, and they deserve to eat the losses on the car. The lady also should have known better when she tried buying a 100k car. You have to be intelligent enough to live within your means.

DEM Primaries/Candidates thread
QUOTE(Reddy @ Feb 13, 2008 -> 01:00 PM) how is that different than Mitt saying a vote for a dem is a vote for surrender to terrorism? you say things to your base that you know they'll agree with, however asinine it may be. no reason to get all riled up about it... Its not. And I would be willing to bet that you would see probably Kap ripping Mitt in the GOP thread over that same speech.

Challenges Facing the Next President
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Feb 13, 2008 -> 12:42 PM) Perhaps if people would't sue for 20 bazillion dollars when their pinky gets infected after they went to the doctor, or people go to the ER for a hangnail, etc the costs wouldn't be so damn high. But of course, it's always the evil capitalistic bastards driving costs up. You people do realize that all these costs are passthroughs by and large and the companies are getting charged more and more and more by whoever, using whatever factor is driving up the cost (malpractice insurance, suppliers, etc.) It's not like as a percentage the profits are growing any more. They're not, materially. MATERIALLY being the key word (I don't want to start a nitpick bulls*** thread). How many zeros is a bazillion, I need to know for my next lawsuit.

If you thought the subprime mortgage crisis was bad...
QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Feb 13, 2008 -> 12:43 PM) Subprime car loans: http://jalopnik.com/355234/sub+prime-bmw-crisis In all seriousness, I think this woman represents why many people are opposed to whole-sale bailouts of the people who bought way more than they could afford based on their own stupidity, vanity, and greed. Seriously, the nanny state has to stop. There is a reason that you are charging 20% plus to these people, and that is because they have a history of not paying their bills, and it works vice versa as well, if you paid your bills, you wouldn't be getting charged 20% for a car loan.

QUOTE(Reddy @ Feb 13, 2008 -> 10:39 AM) proof that if Edwards endorses it'll be for Hillary. That's straight out of Edwards' policy book. That EXACT amount. Combine that with her healthcare, her adopting his rhetoric, and her vowing to fight for the poor? It only makes sense. I think an endoresement in this case is too late. He really needed to endorse before Super Tuesday if he wanted to have any effect on the race.

Who is your favorite player currently on the Sox's MLB level team?
QUOTE(knightni @ Feb 12, 2008 -> 11:44 PM) I'll go Buehrle. But, at this point I'm a team cheerer. It's hard to get to liking a guy because of free agency in professional sports. As soon as you buy their jersey, they leave. I am a team cheerer first and foremost. There is no one on this team, that if they left, it would even sway my loyalty in the least. I learned the lesson about players leaving with Robin Ventura. It taught me that the name on the front IS all that matters.

DEM Primaries/Candidates thread
QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Feb 12, 2008 -> 03:48 PM) If you use the results the Obama campaign have collected, Obama currently leads 1031-944 in pldged delegates. Assuming a 60-40 split in the 3 contests today... Obama potential jumps to 1132-1011. I'll split WI 55-45 and Hawaii 60-40... 1185-1053. Now lets move to Ohio and Texas. I'll split them 55-45 to Clinton... Obama - 1335 Clinton - 1236 Even if Hillary won the other March 4th states by 55-45, it would be... Obama - 1351 Clinton - 1256 Yes these are delegate counts and do not directly reflect voter percentages, but you get the idea. Superdelegates are HUGE.

2008 MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 11, 2008 -> 05:24 PM) This man is clearly nuts, but then again, we owe a crazy man for most of what we know about the steroids era as it is. IN 2000 they couldn't say ANYTHING to Rocker about being on Steroids because it wasn't banned by baseball. Who knows if it is true or not, but even if he came out and said publically he was on them, they really couldn't have done much.

Catch-All Anything Thread
QUOTE(Mplssoxfan @ Feb 12, 2008 -> 02:45 PM) That reminds me of a friend. He wanted to make money so badly, except for the part that he would actually have to work for it. When he wasn't flaming out in whatever job he was currently in, he was trying to set up some sort of business that he could draw income from without actually having to do much work. He has some source of income from family money, so he's never going to starve. I'm not really certain what he's doing now, though I'm sure it involves some sort of idea where he'll put a minimal effort in and expect six figures of income. He's probably trading futures

Fields thought about walking away
QUOTE(Soxy @ Feb 12, 2008 -> 01:35 PM) I was asking for your personal definition. If you can't define a word, maybe you shouldn't claim to understand it. Because, clearly, you have no idea what respect is. (oo) What you want (oo) Baby, I got (oo) What you need (oo) Do you know I got it? (oo) All I'm askin' (oo) Is for a little respect when you come home (just a little bit)

Fields thought about walking away
QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Feb 12, 2008 -> 12:55 PM) Knowing that the KKK and other wack-job groups use that book to justify their extreme hatred, I don't think its very ignorant. I think that book is dangerous. And this coming from someone who went to catholic grade school, high school, and a jesuit university and got an A in an Islam class. I think my years of experience in life and school give me plenty of background to make such a statement. And I'm a big fan of Seventeen. Good stuff. That's akin to saying all White Sox fans are coked out whack jobs because Ligue attacked an umpire.

Books
QUOTE(BigEdWalsh @ Feb 12, 2008 -> 11:17 AM) I picked up a couple of old science fiction paperbacks from the early '60s at a thrift store. I'm reading one right now called 3 From Out There. It's three short stories by Isaac Asimov, Damon Knight and Edmond Hamilton. Anything by Asimov is a sure fire hit.

2008 White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Feb 11, 2008 -> 03:28 PM) why is Sisco mentioned as a contender for a bullpen spot - weren't they trying to stretch him out into a starter down in Charlotte? Wasn't the same true with Masset? I think the Sox envision Sisco as a reliever, but they want him to work on his secondary pitches, and on his consistant release point, which is why they are having him start. They are trying to give him the repititions he missed after being buried in the Royal pen as a Rule V pick.

Economic Stimulus Check
QUOTE(Steff @ Feb 12, 2008 -> 10:07 AM) I wish I had a nickel for every person who's taxes I've done over the years that says "hu???" when I tell them this. They act like their refund is a gift from the g'ment. And these are not stupid people.. (well, most of them aren't). They just refuse to manage a savings account on their own despite the fact that the g'ment doesn't pay interest. Its the closest thing to a savings account most of my family will ever have!

GOP Primaries/Candidates thread
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Feb 12, 2008 -> 08:27 AM) Wait, so Obama is going back on his word, or are you talking about McCain? Its an indictment of both of them honestly. They are all saying one thing and doing another. For McCain to be singled out here is pretty narrowly focused.
