  1. Rowand better hope they make the Rios trade, because he doesn't want to be the biggest aquisition in the year that San Fran let Barry Bonds walk away.
  2. This is Brian Anderson and Ryan Sweeney's big chance. It could also very well mean that we see Ryan Fields in LF in spring training and Joe Crede back with the Sox in 2008. EDIT: Wow, try Josh Fields
  3. QUOTE(mreye @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 02:26 PM) The TI show has changed to "The Sirens of TI". It's notoriously terrible! I think it's dark right now for maintenance, anyway. Cheap drinks: $1 Michelobs at Casino Royal Oh damn. That sucks. The old show was awesome.
  4. I have said it before, and I will say it again. Mark Prior is going to someone really happy one after he leaves Chicago.
  5. QUOTE(lostfan @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 02:24 PM) Yeah, and that was absolutely great. Unfortunately I just looked at my calendar and it's 2007, and I'm thinking we have a .500 team right now. I don't know about you but I'd kind of like to experience 2005 again someday. And the only way that is going to happen is by being aggressive. People conviently forget their White Sox history when they talk about melting things down. People STILL talk about the strike year and the White Flag trade. There were people who literally didn't go to games for 10+ years because of those incidents. If we punt on two to three years worth of time, we might as well pack up the franchise and move it to Las Vegas, because by the time we are good again, there won't be any payroll to pay the players, because there won't be anyone at the ballpark to care about the team on the field. I for one have zero interest in going back to the years where our best players walk away because we average 20K fans a night. Our only chance at winning again soon is to try to roll the dice, and Williams understands this, and is trying to do something.
  6. QUOTE(lostfan @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 02:21 PM) I'm not holding anybody's work ethic against anybody. In fact TBH I could care less about the work ethic of Kenny Williams, Jerry Angelo, or John Paxson. I only care about the end result and right now, I can't be too optimistic, because I (and many others) haven't seen too much of anything. I used to think KW was a genius, now, not so much. There is a pretty lengthy thread about that so I'm not going to comment too much further. The end result was a 2005 World Series championship.
  7. QUOTE(lostfan @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 12:24 PM) So... what FA is KW going to whiff on next? I hate to sound like a doom-and-gloom naysayer but unless Jerry Owens all of a sudden turns into a .320 hitter with 50 stolen bases... we're a mess. Serious question here... because so many people seem to have this opinion, would you all rather return to the Ron Schuler years where we'd maybe make one decent trade a winter, but you could pretty much be assured that we wouldn't be after any major players? I know the knock on Kenny is all of the sudden is that he is "missing" on all of the players, but the fact that he is chasing them, even when the odds are against him in all of these cases just tells me he is willing to try to do whatever it takes to try to improve. Think about it. Torii Hunter was supposedly going to get blown away from this huge offer from Texas. You all heard the impression Kenny made on Hunter, and how close he was to coming here. Miguel Cabrera was supposedly going to the Angels. In steps Kenny, and he was leading the race, until Florida changed the terms and insisted we take on Dontrelle Willis. Fukudome was supposedly only going to consider the Cubs, yet Kenny goes out and matches the Cubs offer, only to fail because the guy wanted to pad his own ego with the #1 and having to play RF, plus being the #1 Japanese player on the northside. What do these all have in common? Kenny fought for all three of the guys dispite the odds. A guy like Ron Schuler would have never been heard from on any of these stages. He would have been happy to plug in some rookies, and some type b/c free agents, and move on having no expecations of anything for the next season. Its insane to hold someone's work ethic against them. Its almost like people would be happier if we weren't ever mentioned at all in connection with players. Give me the guy going for the gold ring, instead of the guy who is content to see how long he can go around on the merri-go-round.
  8. QUOTE(Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 01:34 PM) Lol, doh. That's item number 1 on the agenda - Cirque De Soule Oh! (the Beatles show). Prices are ridiculous but it'll make the gf happy. At least the music will be good, the Love soundtrack was incredible. We saw Mystire when we were out there and I regretted every minute and dollar of it.
  9. So here is my question, if Hillary is going to use her time in the White House as a plank of her arguement that she has the necesary experience to run the Presidency, is it fair to bring up the scandals from that same White House that involved her? http://newsbusters.org/blogs/brent-bozell/...-clinton-record
  10. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 11:51 AM) Seriously, it's so sad. These people are so in bed with each other... and it's all a front to maintain power. Above all else, Democrats and Re-pube-licans want nothing more then to maintain power. They say they are each for the people, and they aren't. They get their special interest lobby money for their pet projects, use it to campaign, and stay in power as long as they can. That has nothing to do with party affiliation. I wish that either a.) a serious third party would form or b.) we could clean the slate of both parties out and get people with integrity running our government. I could deal with someone I disagree with if they told the truth. In that vein, I hope Obama gets the nomination, but I'm not holding my breath. Obama would at least make me think about voting Democrat for president. The really sad thing is that the Dems didn't learn a thing from the Republician revolution. You have to deliver on those grandiose promises, or you will get delivered to the scrappile of history.
  11. Those are great lists Jason! A couple more things to tack on, the top of the stratosphere is a great view of everything, and not too expensive, plus the roller coaster up there is neat. Also the pirate show at Treasure Island is legendary. Finally skip anything Cirque De Soule if you are a straight male.
  12. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 11:20 AM) Totally off the hook now that Bananas -N- Pajamas is on the bill too! Yea wacky Aussies kids teevee. Other than that horrid Skippy the Bush Kangaroo, that is. I can't say it better than this...
  13. If you are a nature person at all, Red Rock canyon about 20 miles east of Vegas is just incredible. Lots of hiking and climbing that can be done out there.
  14. Talk about waiting too long to make a deal... Tejada could have brought a kings ransom last year, or the year before that.
  15. Good luck to Tads out there... He might need it in that ballpark.
  16. IIRC he was the Mets clubhouse attendant.
  17. Kucinich has been kicked out of the Iowa debates... http://thehill.com/campaign-2008/kucinich-...2007-12-12.html
  18. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 07:26 AM) I'm so f***ing sick of the "Firesale" post. It's more unrealistic than the posts "Lets trade Crede for Haeger for Lincecum". Having a so called "firesale" aka Marlins style would probably be the WORST thing this organization could do. You can't just trade Konerko-Dye-Thome-Vazquez-Crede-Jenks. You do that, and some of you are going to get your wish. The Sox will be exactly like the Marlins. Suck, and have about 500 people in the stands. Like it or not, the organization is still working off the World Series, and will for as long as possible. If you were in the same position Williams-Reinsdorf, or even Boyer is, you would do the same thing. You need to have players to sell tickets. It's a business. You make the proposed deals in this thread, for the next 3 years this team wins 50 ball games a season. By the time the Sox got back to respectability, assuming that even happened, there wouldn't be much money for a payroll, considering the terrible attendance that would surely happen. Saying "Lets have a FIRESALE!!" is easy, but it just isn't realistic, or even very smart. The Sox need to continue to spend over the next few years, but at the same time, re-commit to the the farm system and scouting, which it sounds like they are going to start to do, while also not getting tied down in terrible contracts. Huge 5 year deals need to be avoided at this point. They still need stars to sell and have fans identify with. Thank you for seeing the big picture. Being the historical second team in a two team town, we can't have a firesale. Its just not possible. Something like that could be putting the nails into the coffin for a decade.
  19. It would be nicer to hear a Brian Anderson say something like this, but it is nice to see guys who are respected in the clubhouse leading the way by example.
  20. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 11, 2007 -> 04:31 PM) It's that fun time of year when I have to get a Kris Kringle (or Secret Santa, I don't know what you call it up there) gift for someone in the office. I was reading an article this morning about this subject, and how things such as lingerie and sex toys aren't a good idea (well duh). And no, I'm not making a donation in their name to the "Human Fund" (although the idea did come into my head at one point). I hear a Christmas picnic with The Wiggles is a pretty hot deal down there...
  21. Judging by some of the dumb ass s*** he has said in the past, I am sure there are some good ones just waiting to come out against him...
  22. Happy Birthday Goldy
  23. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 10, 2007 -> 11:17 AM) That's not how it works here. Since this is a federal case, he has to serve at least 85 percent of the sentence, which in the case of 23 months, 85 percent is at least 19 and 1/2 months. He could, in theory, serve the last month of that in a halfway house, and he did start his jailtime about 3 weeks ago, but the earliest Vick could realistically even be a free man is the summer of 2009. Now, of course, by then he will not have played an NFL game in almost 3 years, be 29 years old (which isn't young by NFL standards) be nowhere near in playing shape, and not be on any team since sometime after June 1st (at the latest) of 2008, the Falcons will cut him to save the cap hit. And all of that doesn't even include the fact that Vick is still facing pending state charges in Virginia, and Lord only knows how that will go since usually the state would ordinarily leave somebody who has taken a plea with the feds alone, but for some reason Virginia wants a piece of Vick too (not that I mind). So, unless Bruce Weber coaches an NFL team, I doubt he plays in the NFL again when you consider all that and other than good ol' Bruce, I'm unaware of many (or any) convicted felons who are on the roster of major athletic squads in our great land. Well I am glad to be wrong, I honestly hope he never plays football again. He doesn't deserve the opportunity.
  24. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 11, 2007 -> 11:22 AM) If the party nominates someone who has to accept matching funds in the primary race, money does become a concern, because that really hampers your ability to spend money on Ads from the end of the primaries up through the start of the general. It was no accident that the Kerry campaign couldn't go on the air when the Swift Vets first appeared in April/May with any sort of counter-charge. He'd accepting matching funds in the Primary campaign because of his laggard fundraising, and therefore he couldn't spend anything else on ads in most states without breaking the law. If you have limits on what you can spend, it doesn't matter how much you bring in. The first word of your post saids it all. The front three candidates at very least, are not going to opt for public funding. If I know that money is sitting on the sidelines, you can damned well bet that they know it.
  25. QUOTE(StatManDu @ Dec 11, 2007 -> 11:05 AM) Navarro is on my Most Hated Sox team along with Royce Clayton, Albert Belle, Wil Cordero, Claudell Washington, Billy Koch and Rick White I think after that list an angel just had it wings tore off and stomped on
