Colbert for President
Not sure if it was the denial of getting on the ballot in SC or the writers strike, but Colbert is dropping his Presidential bid http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D8...;show_article=1

QUOTE(Chet Lemon @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 11:50 AM) Mondale was easily the worst Presidential candidate in recent history. Somewhere, George McGovern is pissed at you.

Tyrus Thomas: the joke
QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 10:43 AM) minus the 3's. If he worked on it, there is no reason he couldn't develop it. He doesn't seem to have bad technique or anything. He has already worked into decent mid-range shooter judging on the first three games of the year. If he puts in the time in the gym, I believe he could extend his game out there.

Pending Free Agents
Wow, all of those trades of major leaguers for our minor leaguers are looking pretty decent right now, except for the young deal.

Tyrus Thomas: the joke
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 09:58 AM) Its time to rip everyone but Joe Smith then. Tyrus had a bad game, but what about Ben Wallace, Lou Deng, and is Hinrich trying to set a fouls committed record? Just remember when you are talking about Tyrus, he is a 21 year old kid. Unless you are Michael Jordan, or Lebron James , of that ilk, inconsistency comes when you that age. Aldridge didn't exactly light it up his second game after a 27 point opener. Posted two hours and ten minutes ago... http://www.talkbulls.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=2144 But then again, that would just be changing the subject to avoid what Scott Skiles has been talking about for a while now. Thomas needs to bring his game every night. If he would wake up to the fact that he just can't "out athlete" NBA guys every night, he has the potential to be a Shawn Marion type player.

Tyrus Thomas: the joke
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Nov 3, 2007 -> 07:15 AM) 21 points, 12 rebounds,3 blocks, 42 minutes. Not bad for a lazy, unfocused, out of shape joke. And the very next night 2 points 1-7 shooting, 28 minutes, 5 fouls, 6 Reb, and 0-2 free throws. That is my exact point. One minute he is just incredible, the next, not so much. The interesting part is that it was the second night of a back to back stretch, you know, when conditioning and focus comes into play.

QUOTE(Cknolls @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 08:51 AM) So were letting the dollar fall so we can take growth out of other countries? LOL So much for the strong dollar. How would you suggest we could raise the value of the dollar if we didn't want to take growth away from other countries? I know, its macroeconomic theory, and it runs counter to what most people have been brainwashed to believe. Its not difficult at all to reduce growth and still strengthen the dollar... Find a way to cut production costs of American goods across the board. Cut things like wages, benefits, material costs...

History channel 9-11 conspiracy special
I don't know if anyone else caught this show last night http://www.history.com/shows.do?action=det...pisodeId=240087 But it was worth the two hour watch. It chronicaled the "history" of 9-11 conspiracies. It also went through and theory by theory, brought in the people who believe it, and then people who debunked them. The format was an interesting point/counterpoint set up that went through issue by issue, and point by point to make it easier to follow. My favorite part was that much of the silly rhetoric was left out, and instead there was an actually factual investigation that took place. If you are interested in this stuff, check out the program.

QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 08:28 AM) Actually, it is more like he is NOt following the script. Just because he doesn't act like he has an expresso machine IV'ed into his arm, he seems uninterested. Just because he doesn't orate like a southern preacher,he is uninspiring. I don't watch every speech or talk he gives, but the ones I do see, he talks like he is talkign to the person sitting in front of him, like a person, not a soundbite. I agree that his campaign doesn't seem to have the 'energy' that others do, and in the short term (the primaries) that might hurt him. But like SS2K, I like his positions on alot of the major issues, and hope that people can see above the forced exhuberance of the candidates to see the actual issues. I know, I am dreaming, but hey, it's my dream. This right here is the whole thing that seems to be gone from campaigns anymore. I respect Barack Obama more as a person than anyone else in the Presidential race today, but I would NEVER vote for him. He doesn't stand for most things that I really believe in. I don't need a rockstar as a President, I personally would like a guy who made a good President, and stood for what I believed in. I could care less what the popular image of that person is.

GOP Primaries/Candidates thread
Its funny because if you get past the quad-rennial "idiot Republician" media slash-job, the positions he has on lots of the major issues, are by far my favorite. His SSI and Illegal Immigration plans are not only both intelligent compromises, they also promise the least disruption to day to day lives for the most people. But its easier to buy the all-too-predictable "idiot" label...

QUOTE(Cknolls @ Nov 2, 2007 -> 10:24 AM) I'm a seller with both hands. The Fed can't do anything about the falling dollar unless foreign centarl banks do it for him because the FED and the Treasury have no foreign reserves to speak of with which to defend the dollar. You can't buy dollars with more dollars. When you spew confetti into the system, you depreciate it even further. The U.S never needed to have foreign currency reserves given that it prints the world's reserve currency. Un fortunately, when you abuse that privelege, as the U.S Fed has repeatedly done over the past decade or so, the mkt eventually says, "No MAS", and you get a break down in the global monetary system, just as we are seeing today. The U.S does have one reserve asset, and that is GOLD Is it any wonder that gold is rallying in all paper currencies today, just as it did the last time the global monetary system broke down, in the eraly 1970's? Please DO NOT feed some some hokey outdated conspiracy crap about the gold standard. All that did was to artificially limit the growth of the United States to our mining activity. The Gold Standard is completely inane, and has been proven so by pretty much the best looking long term economic growth in the history of the USA. The reason gold has rallied, is the same reason that every other commodity has rallied over the last few years... demand. With logic like that, I could make a case for the Soybean Standard as a peg for money supply. Anyway, back to what I was talking about with reducing the trade balance, and taking growth out of other countries, here is a prime example of it, just to our north. http://www.businessweek.com/bwdaily/dnflas...gn_id=rss_daily

Here is the interesting line of it for me... Zumaya injures shoulder during wildfires
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 2, 2007 -> 11:44 AM) Going into the draft Zumaya only threw in the low 90's, he magically gained 10 MPH on his fastball after playing in the Tigers minor league system. If Joel were throwing 100-103 MPH before the draft he would have been a high round pick. Adding 10 mph doesn't exactly lesson the juice implications...

DEM Primaries/Candidates thread
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 2, 2007 -> 11:23 AM) At least from the Text, Obama seems to have nailed one this morning on the Today Show. Obama is the one candidate that can call her on it without risking how it comes off too. Good for him.

Westboro Baptist Church fined $11 million
QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Nov 2, 2007 -> 11:04 AM) From what I understand, the WBC made disparaging comments about this family's deceased which could be deemed as both harrassment and slander/libel on their website. Protesting a funeral from a spot on public property is IMO a completely reprehensible, but legitimate, exercise of free speech and assembly. This lawsuit is pure BS. Slander/libel, I could understand, but I didn't get that from the articles that I have read about this. I agree with your last paragraph 100%. The speech we should protect the most is the speech we like the least.
