Contreras and El Duque
QUOTE(Antonio Osuna @ Jun 26, 2005 -> 01:17 PM) el conde and el duque are just not getting it done anymore; they've fallen back to Earth after amazing starts. For all we know, Garland will do the same before too long; I'm certainly hoping he won't, but let's assume worst-case scenario. We need 3-4 aces to both lock up the division and go deep into the playoffs. Buerhle and Garcia are passable in that role; Garland might be, but let's not count on him just We need Schmidt, badly. This from a guy with a screenname from a mediocre middle reliever...

Flubs vs. White Sox 6/26/05 game thread
Wow we have had no luck at all this game. Two balls have been hit to the wall, and then that deflection RIGHT to the second baseman.

Supreme Court Decision on Property Rights
QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jun 26, 2005 -> 01:09 PM) For those who know law: Would it be possible for a local government to commit itself to not seize land by eminent domain, for example, by entering into a contract with a developer stipulating that for the next 100 years the government would not exercise its power to seize the land? Or would this be just another property right, no more sacred than the basic recognition of land ownership, that the local officials could break according to the same rules by which they seize property? Just an interesting question, in theory. If I understand this correctly, it is the local government that has to declare eminent domain. I don't think a business can do it on their own.

Does anyone play online backgammon?
Backgammon is my family game. Everytime my dads side of the family has a gathering the board is out and we all play until we lose. I have been playing since I was like 4 or 5 I think. I played every once in a while on Yahoo, but didn't care to much for the people playing...

On the Questionable Use of Neal Cotts
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 24, 2005 -> 06:15 PM) We'd be in more trouble tomorrow if it were a close game and Cotts came out rusty from not having worked in 6 days that we are after him having worked an inning today. Which if we have learned ANYTHING about Neal Cotts in 2005, it is that he doesn't pitch well on long rest. He was awful when he wasn't getting used regularly early in the season.

Flubbies @ White Sox Game Thread
QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jun 25, 2005 -> 11:42 AM) After getting dominated the way they did yesterday, loook for the Cubs to step it up today. The Sox better be agressive early and match their intensity. Need to hit Maddux early, if he goes into the 4th unscathed, we're in trouble. If they didn't step it up yesterday after the embarassing loss with Milwaukee, I don't know what they have in them. Basically if the Sox can shut down Lee, they can win.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jun 24, 2005 -> 09:19 PM) I am watching a a replay of the Cubs broadcast and Brenley was saying he was watching Sox film with Maddux before the game and Maddux noticed something that occured with almost every Sox hitter that he would take advantage of. Hmm... Spitballs

Hell hath officially frozen over folks
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 24, 2005 -> 06:08 PM) I hate to keep pointing this out, but if you ignore May, Joe Crede is having a fine year. He had 1 terrible month. If it weren't for May, he'd be a .300 hitter right now. He's still swinging and missing too much right now, but he's not flying open like he was in May; he's keeping his head down and driving the ball, which is exactly what he should be doing. If we can figure out a way to cut donw on his strikeouts, he could turn himself into an All star pretty quick. With all of the preconcieved notions about Crede, you will have to keep repeating it.

City Reps take away speech
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 24, 2005 -> 06:13 PM) Actually, Walmart's prices as a whole really aren't that low at all. So basically Wal Mart is driving small business out because consumers aren't that smart? Makes sense to me.

Flubbies @ White Sox Game Thread
QUOTE(DukeNukeEm @ Jun 24, 2005 -> 02:48 PM) The purpose of beaning him isnt to hurt him, it's to throw him off. Exactly. You knock him down in the first inning, he doesn't dig in nearly as deep, and might become suseptable to the pitch on the outer half.

Flubbies @ White Sox Game Thread
QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 24, 2005 -> 02:42 PM) Nah, elbow. It'll sting more. I don't see anything wrong with a purpose pitch in baseball. If you want to hit someone, don't hurt them. I wouldn't want to see Lee miss time because one of our guys injured him. I guess I am a purist when it comes to that kind of stuff.

QUOTE(shakes @ Jun 24, 2005 -> 02:37 PM) That's a good point, I still hope we don't pitch to him. We need to bury a fastball in his hip in his first AB. Get him uncomfortable up there.

2005 Win Shares
QUOTE(TheHammer @ Jun 24, 2005 -> 02:34 PM) I would argue that our 5 starters, Cotts, Politte, Hermy, Konerko, Everett, Rowand, Iguchi, AJ, and Dye have all been more important to this teams success than Podsednik. I think someone pointed out that we are like 7-3 when he doesn't play. No single position player is really that important to this team this season. Especially one with a weak bat and defense And almost half of the guys you listed there were aquired as a direct result of the money freed up from the Carlos Lee trade.

Supreme Court Decision on Property Rights
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jun 24, 2005 -> 01:53 PM) I read the case and (parts) of the opinion by John Paul Stevens and I just about died. I'll give you that the parts may have been the juicy parts and out of context, but I don't think so from what I've read. I just can't see how property tax considerations gives a local government the right to excercise emminent domain, which is what this boils down to. The big problem I have with it, is that it can be used for private gain. Public good is one thing, profit is another. If someone doesn't want to sell, they shouldn't have to for a new business.
