  1. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Apr 28, 2005 -> 10:31 AM) Your natural reaction to a pitch thrown in the direction the ball was thrown at Everett is to turn your back. It is the natural reaction to trying to get out of the way. The reason I mentioned pitch speed is that there was a lot more time for Crede to react with the slow curveball than there was to Everett and a 95 mph fastball. If that was a fastball that hit Crede yesterday, even if he dipped into it, I would be willing to bet it wouldn't have been called the way it was. You are told in Little League that you have to attempt to get out of the way of a pitch to be awarded first base. That is why I don't understand why Crede was so upset. He knows he didn't try to get out of the way, It is rarely called, and in the spirit of the rule I would totally agree that a lot of HBP should be called balls. I totally understand what your natural reaction is to having a ball thrown at you. But if we are looking at the letter of the rule, your natural reaction doesn't matter either. The only stipulation in that rule is that you have to try to get out of the way. The fact that the rule is hardly ever used is exactly called, is exactly why Crede was upset. Pile that onto the fact that it was a key junction in the game, and you can even get a mild mannered player pissed off. If they called it even semi-regularly Crede wouldn't have said a word. But they don't, and unless they plan on starting to call it all of the time, they shouldn't have called it yesterday.

  3. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Apr 28, 2005 -> 10:01 AM) Maybe they just love his "Humpty" nose.... Or the $20 million per movie
  4. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Apr 28, 2005 -> 09:58 AM) And a short ass. You were checking out his ass?
  5. QUOTE(shakes @ Apr 28, 2005 -> 09:57 AM) I will be there Friday and I'll give them a standing O for you. Thanks man
  6. Hopefully Kenny Williams gathers up all of these clips, pictures, and everything else, and sends it into the league office... along with a request to never again let this crew work vs the Sox again. Every single questionable call went against the team, along with at least 3 blatantly wrong calls.
  7. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Apr 28, 2005 -> 09:33 AM) If you've been in the box with a guy throwing 95, you'll realize there is very little you can do to get out of the way. Crede was up against a slow curveball. Not only did he make no effort to get out of the way, he made an effort to get in the way. If we are being technical, the rule saids nothing about pitch speed. The only thing specified is that they try to get out of the way. Technically substituting one body part for another isn't getting out of the way. Also the rule doesn't make any distinctions between trying to get hit, and just not trying to get out of the way. The only thing that is specified is this. There is nothing in there about trying to get hit. Technically, it shouldn't make a differece in the umps mind. Technically Crede did not get out of the way of the pitch, so technically he didn't deserve the base. But Everett didn't make any effort to get out of the way either, he only tried to get hit in a different place. And that in a nutshell is why the rule that was enforced against Crede was ignorant. If you want to make that call, and use the rule to justify it, I would be willing to bet that call should be made on at least 50% of all HBPs, if the umps followed this rule to the letter of the law.
  8. That would be awesome. It would be killer to get a Soxtalk Future Sox wallpaper with Baj, McCarthy, and Bull on it.
  9. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Apr 28, 2005 -> 09:20 AM) If Everett didn't make an attempt to get out of the way, how come that pitch hit him in the back? Turning which is a natural reaction counts towards trying to get out of the way. If he didn't move it would have hit his hip or ribs. Crede dipped his elbow into the pitch with the intent of letting it hit him. He didn't really try to get "out of the way", IMO. He just moved a different part of the body in front of the pitch. He didn't duck, or move backwards, he just turned his butt into the pitch instead of his side. Everett had every intention of letting the pitch hit him.
  10. This was in today's Trib
  11. This game went well, but I will say that Oakland is really poorly schooled in fundementals. They never tried to test the left side of the infield at all. If I am Mark Kotsay, I put down a bunt on the first pitch of the game, and try to take advantage of Widger and company. I also am trying to steal bases, and just generally wreaking havoc. They did nothing. Ken Macha is an idiot, that's all.
  12. I can remember watching Sox games back to the southside hitmen, and I don't remember that ever being called.
  13. QUOTE(ptatc @ Apr 27, 2005 -> 08:20 PM) This is an important point. Do the Sox fold or use it to play better. In 2000 there was the Tigers fight and they used it for the better. Last year the Hunter incident happened and we folded. What will happen this year??? I'll be at the games this weekend. Will see how they play. I think we already saw how they would react to this. They gutted this game out, when they had a built in excuse to fold. Freddy Garcia went out and gave an excellent preformance. I really hope that in the Hunter BS, this does not get forgotten. Garcia put this team on his back, and almost singlehandedly won the game, dispite the odds. I am extremely proud of this team after today. I wish I could be there Friday to give them a standing O.
  14. Sox 1 2 0 A's 0 1 0 after 3 1/2 innings Later all, I am out of here... bring it home!
  15. Damn. Pauly tried to go the other way to get it through the hole, but hit it right at the 2B.
  16. 1-0 Sox after 3 full innings of play. BTW how do you get a screen shot off of MLB TV? I couldn't get it to paste into Paint.
  17. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 27, 2005 -> 03:18 PM) My satellite froze real quic, but was that as routine as it looked on the freeze frame? Softly hit right to Crede. It was an easy turn.
  18. Crede to Harris to Konerko=6-4-3
  19. QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Apr 27, 2005 -> 03:17 PM) Gameday seems to be lagging. Score? 1-0 Sox bottom of the 3rd. As have runners on first and third with one out and Kendall at the plate
  20. QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ Apr 27, 2005 -> 03:17 PM) Ugh, I'm worried if Crede has to turn a DP. We all are.
  21. Ball 4. Corners with one out.
  22. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 27, 2005 -> 03:15 PM) Infield in? Yep.
  23. Nice pitch, and just as bad of a swing.
