Do you have guys we don't have to work on? We aren't very good there. -

Poor Getz has to sell his own ineptitude to get Robert sold high. -
Kinda surprised they didn't try a last round HS guy.

We ride this roller coaster every deadline about how 87 teams are interested, and they might be willing to give up these great prospects, then we get a disappointing return which early on is justified because this injured guy will come back and someone will fix the other slumping guy, before eventually being rejustified that we should have expected a crappy return all along. -

Front office for a certain baseball team. -
Your point was apt in the pre draft caps days. Today it does not work like that. It is quite literally impossible to take the best possible player with each pick, or you will be over the draft caps and forfeit draft picks in future drafts. They days where you can spend whatever you want are over. if you don't have sacrifice picks you don't get overslot deals either.
-
I didn't say anything good or bad about it, I am just trying to understand what you were saying about it.
-
When are the 2026 picks known enough to be available to be traded?
-
-
And why is this a red flag? Just because they know him?
-
Any idea what his injuries were?
-
Can you elaborate on what you mean, because I have no idea what you are trying to say here? What does John Cangelosi have to do with our 2nd round pick and/or our current management structure?
-
We love us some Coastal Carolina.
-
You lose the slot money that year, as well as a year of development and the player, which means you have one less slot to work with on your player allotment. Not all player picks get replaced, not sure what that looks like now.
-
This, combined with the guys being dumped at the trade deadline could make for an ugly 2nd half.
-
It isn't that simple. If you go over with someone, which is typically the high school picks, you have to go under with others, or you lose a future draft pick. So while you might over pick at one slot, you then have to under pick at another (or more) to make up for it. If you spend a million over slot to pick the BPA up front, you have to save that million dollars by NOT taking BPA at subsequent slots.
-
Otherwise you end up with a 121 loss team. I am so glad they work really, really hard at being bad though.
-
They have to be, and with good reason.
-
It is completely overrated, and actually part of coaching. You don't always get to pick your most talented players, and being able to get the most out of them is quite literally your job. And when a group that was succeeding, almost all fails at once, that is a huge red flag that despite telling us "motivation" was the problem, the problem was much different.
-
Yep, only the players.
-
The issues were management and bringing in people to fit the kids. These same kids were all producing at high levels until said change and then they lost them forever. Can we talk about the make up of the ownership team instead? Nah, we'll use the assigned buzzword instead.

So it will probably be my jinx when he fails, but I do like to check in on the merch auctions around the Sox and their MiLB teams. Sometimes if I see a jersey I will, I will put in a bid either for a player of interest, or a jersey number I like if it is cheap enough. The Knights 4th of July jersey popped up recently, so I bid and won a Schultz jersey. I got it in the mail today, and it was autographed too! Nice win.
