  1. Giving up assets for Castellanos is the exact opposite of what this franchise should be doing.
  2. Because you are using a rate instead of actual production? It is an argument over back of the roster players with zero value. If you need to win on Mead, have at it. I will be here hopefully for actual decent players.
  3. All for a dude who you hope to be as good as Lenyn? Cool. That's all you and Chris.
  4. I honestly don't think Sosa has any real trade value either. All bat, no D guys only have a market if they are HUGE hitters, and definitely more lefty than righty.
  5. I don't know what the hang up on Mead is here, but have at it. I honestly can't wait until we are actually good again so that other people's garbage quits looking so damned attractive.
  6. The fact he has a history of actually hitting homers.
  7. Sosa also showed a lot more power in the minors. I am not sure why everyone else's dumpster is so much more attractive than the dumpster we already know, but sure.
  8. Is this post copied from somewhere else?
  9. You and Chris Getz can continue to dumpster dive for this.
  10. Sosa was a Latin American signing. We gave up only cash to get him. Vargas kind of makes my point for me. We could have had real prospects with longer control, but instead we got Vargas. Wonderful.
  11. Plus his name sound positively AI.
  12. And now they get to a few months later, and they spend $175 million to replace him. I don't know what the hang up on another post-hype flop is, but it is positively Getzian.
  13. There were a ton of rumors out there about him being in various trades at the deadline to improve 3B. Enough so that Bruce asked him about it. And not only were they looking to improve the position he played, they were talking about him in trades to do it.
  14. I guess we are going to do the Shaw thing again, but even the "excused absence" thing isn't it. https://www.chicitysports.com/chicago-cubs-matt-shaw-trade-alex-bregman-nico-hoerner
  15. Who even the Cubs have been trying to get rid of since he got there.
  16. Why though? You already have a guy who HAS that, and instead would bet on a dude who has never had it? Mead is 24 and with over 500 MLB PAs and over 1700 MiLB ones. Lenyn is one year older.
  17. Been on this train for a minute now.
  18. He has 5 HRs in about a seasons worth of MLB ABs. Lenyn just put up 22 in almost the same amount of PAs that it took Mead to hit 5. The most he even hit an MiLB season was 15.
  19. There has definitely been a thing internally for him for a while now. They are also putting him out front of a lot of stuff for a dude who isn't in their plans.
  20. And a large portion of it happens if the Sox are there or not, so honestly, it makes more sense to have two teams there to justify the costs for something like 100 nights a year, instead of just the soccer schedule.
  21. I think this gets lost in translation, but states and municipalities throw money at companies all of the time in the name of Economic Growth. Billions upon billions of dollars. Hell companies were lining up to throw $50 billion in tax incentives and infrastructure at a Trillion Dollar company in Amazon. It wouldn't be a weird or abnormal thing for the Bears to negotiate a package like this, even in Illinois or Chicago.
  22. I think that has been a problem for a while in Chicago sports in general. We have a lot of paper rich owners in this city, and not cash flow rich. Especially before the Ricketts bought the Cubs, outside of maybe the Hawks owners, these guys wealth was largely tied up in the fact that they owned teams. Jerry being a real estate guy meaning, again, a dude whose wealth is NOT liquid. The McCaskeys are literally rich because they own the Bears. Unless they sell the team, they don't have billions sitting around to build a stadium, so the offer IS important to them.
  23. And all you need to know is that we just picked up a similar (or better if you believe the hype) off of waivers.
